Former Love Island star Chris Hughes has slammed the 'sickening abuse' experienced by girlfriend Jesy Nelson after she was called 'the ugly one' out of Little Mix.

The 26-year-old jumped to his girlfriend's defence after a cruel troll wrote a horrible comment on his latest photo with 28-year-old Jesy.

The couple are shown cuddling in bed with snacks resting on Chris' chest, and Chris captioned the post;

 “So today we went to the cinema, but didn’t watch a film, we just bought chocolate and sweets instead,” adding pig emojis for good measure. Jesy wrote back; "My piglet" with a heart emoji. ADORBS.

The girlband member later posted the same cute image to her Instagram feed, captioning it: “Just a couple of curly-haired posers on a Sunday evening.”

One person wrote a cruel comment about Jesy's appearance saying: “I would rather pay cinemas prices than be led next to that sooooooo much makeup but she was always the ugly one.”

Chris has been vocal about a number of issues that are close to his heart, including animal cruelty, and made sure to stand up for his girlfriend by naming and shaming the troll;

Reacting to the message, Chris shared a screenshot of the comment to his Instagram Story and wrote: “What a c***.”

Chris added in another post: “Find it so strange that grown women enjoy insulting young girls they don’t even know…. honestly.

“Some of the people that follow me and give my girlfriend abuse is actually sickening. Your lives must be so miserable, that you can only feel for them.”

Jesy recently got candid about being branded "the fat one from Little Mix" and the impact which it had on her mental health in a moving Instagram post;

“6 months ago this girl was someone I just wanted to forget. I wanted to erase her from my mind and everyone else’s memory. I didn’t see her as Jesy I saw her as 'the fat one from Little Mix.'

“Up until now I hated her not because she’d ever done anything bad but because I was made to hate her by endless amounts of trolling. Since filming my documentary for @bbcone and @bbcthree I’ve learned so much more than I ever expected to. Thanks to all the inspirational people I’ve met on this emotional journey, I now love the girl in this photo.”

Jesy added: “I’ve made this documentary for 2011 Jesy and for anyone who might be feeling like she did. I refused to speak about how I was feeling for so long. I was embarrassed and scared to. But I was so wrong to feel that way. "

The BBC One documentary references body image and mental health. Chris and Jesy began dating in January after the singer broke up with Harry James.

The couple have sinced moved in together last month, with Chris telling The Mirror; "Oour schedules aren’t too bad. We obviously live together now, which I think everyone knows. But we fit around it."

"I also want to get married. That’s something I’m looking forward to doing one day.” Gushing about Nelson, Chris recently revealed that  his favourite thing to do was “explore new places” with her.

"I’m happiest when I’m travelling around, exploring new places, with my other half not having a clue where we’re going,” he said.

“Being lost in a foreign country with my girlfriend makes me feel free and is when I’m at my happiest.” What a great couple, we simply have to stan.

None other than the Queen of Longford, Maura Higgins, will join Ryan Tubridy on the new season of The Late Late Show this week.

The Love Island star is set to join iconic singer Sinead O'Connor and hilarious comedian and actress Aisling Bea on the couch.

Ryan Tubridy revealed the opening episode features “a selection of people representing Ireland", telling RTE Guide;

“Sinead O’Connor, an icon; Aisling Bea, a new superstar knocking them out in the UK; and Maura Higgins from Love Island, a pop-culture phenomenon. It’s running the gamut, and that’s where The Late Late excels.”

Tubs has previously hinted that the Longford lass will join him on the sofa, saying to the Irish Mirror last week;

“I was watching it (Love Island) over the shoulders of youngsters no but like my feeling about that is even if you didn’t watch it, you know that even when it was going down the toilet and people were saying it was boring and it was the worst series of it, what did it take?"

This year will mark Tubridy's 11th year as host of the show;

“As of midnight when we get to the end of the show on September 6, I’ll be the second longest-serving host of the Late Late Show which is a strange mantel but a very big honour in my life.”

 Maura is currently taking a break from her appearances at events after admitting via her Instagram stories that she's completely "shattered" and "burnt out".

In an age of television that is still blatantly anti-LGBTQ+, one reality show rises above the rest. Love Island, in our view, didn't get enough criticism for it's heteronormativity among other flaws.

Representation of queer people remains massively lacking, especially on reality TV where most people involved are of the same weight, race, age and sexual orientation. They look filtered, pretty much.

MTV's latest series of Are You The One? is back for season eight, but with a beautiful twist: every one of the cast members are sexually fluid. Thank the good Lord, it's what we've been waiting for.

This glittery MTV show will fill the empty void of your life now that Love Island has ended. 16 singles from all over the US have flown to Hawaii for the summer to try and find love, without gender limits.

“Welcome to the most ambitious matchmaking experiment ever attempted,” said host Ryan Devlin. The cash prize is a little more than the ITV dating show…try $1 million.

The contestants have 10 weeks, and 10 match-up (recoupling) ceremonies to try and find out who their perfect match is. All 16 contestants are fair game, so it's far more challenging this time around.

Topics surrounding gender identity and sexuality will be approached, and progressive narratives that the LGBTQ community wholeheartedly deserve.

Competitions, dates and truth booths will be part and parcel of the experience every week, but drama, fights, heartbreak, sex and juicy content ensues as a result.

The 2019 cast's perfect matches are discovered through a dating algorithm, based on a vigorous process involving comprehensive interviews, IQ and personality tests, interviews with family, friends and exes.

“The matchmakers got pretty deep into all of the contestants’ past relationship history, so they would do these interviews with the contestants and their family, friends, and exes. All that information was combined and analysed,” executive producer Tiffany Williams revealed to Entertainment Weekly.

The discourse surrounding gender identity still needs to be opened up further, and queer representation is a great place to start. Awareness and education about sexuality can be provided through the medium of reality TV (Drag Race changed the damn GAME).

“It’s still a fun, drama-filled salacious ridiculous reality show but it’s now got a social message underneath it,” Executive producer Rob LaPlante stated in an interview with Variety.

MTV have provided a relationship expert, Dr Frankie, who specialises in working with the LGBTQ community. Proper mental health support is 100 percent needed throughout the process and afterward.

Seeing as much of the drama is usually constructed, many fans have expressed concerns for queer people being exploited for entertainment. MTV appear to be deconstructing heteronormative conversations in a positive way, however. We adore the inclusive cast.

Are You The One? season eight airs on MTV at 10pm every Monday. Grab that queer content by the rainbow.

Love Island star Michael Griffiths has blasted his 2019 cast-mate Tommy Fury over his 'filthy' habits in the villa.

Looks like we'll be seeing plenty more of Maura on our screens pretty soon, thank Goddess.

While the producers aren't offering any couples a spin-off show (we want more GREG) due to fears of the partners splitting up before filming finishes

Maura made a flying start on This Morning as an agony aunt, but plans to challenge the star with a number of activities are in the works.

The Sun reports that there are plans for Maura to tick off a number of items from a 'turning-30 bucket list', which will see her take on everything from bungee-jumping to pottery making.

An inside source told The Sun that Maura is "great on screen so bosses want to create a platform where viewers can still get their fix."

Producers are "focusing on Maura" as "no-one really knows what the future holds" for her relationship with Curtis. Maura has "ratings-winner potential," and ITV are "ironing out details at the moment."

Maura's fanny flutters are getting her far in her career, it seems.

Ex Love Island stars Arabella Chi and Wes Nelson have confirmed their romance after they were spotted getting cosy together on a Manchester night out.

The duo were pictured getting close while out clubbing, with photos showing the couple heading off to the Malmaison hotel on Thursday morning.

The pair went on low-key date to the cinema today, making their fling official. Rumours of 21-year-old Wes, from the 2018 show, and 28-year-old Arabella first swirled at the end of July.

The model reunited with Wes when she returned from a work trip to Mallorca. The couple were later seen kissing at the table, and have been seeing each other ever since.

Arabella was voted out of the villa this year after only three days after catching the attention of 24-year-old model Danny Williams, who was coupled up with Yewande Biala.

Danny ended up dumping Yewande for the blonde bombshell, but she was voted off the next day by the public and her fellow housemates. Danny has since started another romance with Jourdan Riane

The winner of Love Island 2018 has opened up about his split from Dani Dyer, blaming their break-up on the intensity of moving the relationship along too fast.

Dating experts set Jack up on a date with Chiara in last night's episode, but it got fairly awkward, to say the least. Jack interrupted Chiara constantly, asking her a barrage of questions.

There was a mix-up when he believed she wanted to leave with the waiter, and then actually tried to set her up with one of them. *Sigh*.

The date didn't end well, with Jack labelling it 'a disaster': "That's the most surreal date I've been on. That was really weird," he said.

"You know, that's the first dating disaster I've had – I'm going to call it a disaster. That's the first date I've been on that I've thought, 'f**k that'."

Curtis Pritchard has opened up about why himself and Maura didn't have sex in the Love Island villa, and it makes plenty of sense.

Viewers were confused when Curtis kept rebuffing Maura's advances in bed, shutting down any chance of the pair consummating their relationship in the house.

In a joint interview with the Mail Online after the show ended, Curtis revealed the real reason behind his actions (or lack thereof).

"I want her and only her to experience it," Curtis told the publication. "We are in a bedroom with 14 other people!"

Maura echoed Curtis’ reason, admitting that Curtis was aware of how loud Maura might get; "I think it was more people hearing, he knows how loud I am."

The couple are back home and will have the opportunity to spend some quality alone time together away from the cameras, much to Maura's delight.

"No, we’ve not had a chance! Let’s just say, I’m sure we’ll get it done."

Many people assumed that Curtis rejected Maura’s sexual advances so that he can keep the opportunity alive of working for Strictly Come Dancing. Having sex on TV can harm such chances.

His brother AJ is part of the professional line-up, so it makes sense that he'd want to join him. When asked about his interest in the popular show, he said:

"First time I’ve heard of it, but I’d never close the door! I’d love to work with my brother he’s one of my idols."

Maura and Curtis came in fourth place in Monday night's live final of Love Island, behind Ovie and India, Molly and Tommy and winners Greg O'Shea and Amber Gill.

Maura admits that it wasn’t the outcome she expected, throwing her support behind her best friend from the villa;

‘I’m not going to lie, I was shocked. I love Greg and Amber but Tommy and Molly-Mae were in love.

Ex-Islander Amy Hart has opened up about being forced to seek psychological help 12 times during her stint on Love Island following her break-up with Curtis Pritchard.

The air hostess walked out of the villa voluntarily last week and had to leave at least once to get help as she was in such an emotional distress.

She has now opened up about her heartbreak while on Love Island: Aftersun, revealing that she had to make use of the show's therapist on a dozen different occasions.

"I had therapy 12 times in the villa – but I've come out stronger," she told OK! magazine. "I deserve a man who loves me for who I am."

Amy had never had a boyfriend before meeting Curtis, and was destroyed following his decision to end things with her.

The shock move came after his head was turned by Jourdan Riane while Amy went to Casa Amor. Curtis also told her that he couldn't see a future with her on the outside, or marriage and kids.

The professional dancer decided to be brutally honest with the blonde bombshell, who sobbed in the Beach Hut and proclaimed that she couldn't stay and watch him crack on with other women.

Strictly Come Dancing professional and Curtis' brother AJ has claimed that Amy DM'ed him while speaking on talkRADIO.

"She spoke to me. She sent me a message actually afterwards and said she feels like she knows the family and she could only praise Curtis about being honest," he said.

AJ admitted that his brother was too ruthless while speaking to Amy about his feelings;

"Sometimes he was maybe a bit too brutally honest. He could have let her down a bit softer rather than saying, 'yes, I don't see myself marrying you and having kids with you'. "That was harsh, I'm not lying, it was harsh."

AJ and Curtis' mum Debi has also said that she'd like to meet the woman who had her heart broken by her son; "I would like to meet Amy. My heartache is there for Amy and for the parents," she said.

She continued; "When I watched the moment when Curtis told her how he felt, I couldn't stop crying because of all the emotion. I wanted to reach out and give Amy a hug.

"I was thinking of Amy’s mum a lot and I'm so happy Amy is with her family unit now because I know she will be fine and her and Curtis will be friends," she added,

Amy has a new look and seems better than ever, thank the Lord. She's 100 percent stronger after the experience, and we're proud that she speaks so openly about mental health.

If we’ve learned anything from the last few years, it’s that representation matters.

Big issues like the representation of different skin tones, body sizes and disabilities are fought for on the reg by various strong-ass women and require real change in the minds of the powers that be.

However, calling the media out on a lack of inclusion is only one way to change things. Love Island in particular have been receiving flack for their lack of inclusion on the show, predominantly with body sizing.

Image: ITV

Applauding small changes is another. Once these powers realise that we WANT to see ourselves and our peers represented, things will change.

Even this year, campaigns like Dove's stunning #ShowUs effort have been proving to the media industry that the public want to see every type of person in advertisements and on our screens.

From all gender binaries, sexual orientations, ethnicities, abilities and sizes to vitiligo to scarring; Why should only one type of person be represented on screen when perfection is a myth?

A post shared by  (@dove) on

When flawlessness and perfection no longer sell, when ‘one size fits all’ doesn’t appeal to the masses; that’s when media organisations, beauty companies and the entertainment industry begin to change their tune.

On the topic of applauding small steps, the last two episodes of Love Island have sparked praise in one particular area: skin.

Every single human being has experienced bad skin at one point in their lives. Some of us suffered through teenage acne and have the scars to prove it. Many have had to deal with life-altering skin related issues from complex conditions to unfortunate accidents. Skin is at the centre of beauty campaigns and we are bombarded with an image of what perfectly clear skin ‘should’ look like, err single day.

The cute and bubbly new contestant on the ITV reality show, Francesca Allen, has received some appreciative feedback for choosing to allow her skin to breathe free. She has visible spots and we are SO ready for them. This was also true for Lucie when she took her makeup off each night and revealed 'normal' skin. Maura is over there representing all pale Irish beauties whose faces don't match their necks after a night out.

Image: Twitter/@pepsicolapop

There should never be a strict definition of what constitutes 'normal' skin. 'Normal' to us is what we're shown the most, which is perfection.

However, in reality there are millions of skin disorders and types in the world that don't get shown on screens globally. Our skin is a vital organ, and it's unique to each person.

Image: Twitter/@imaginebane

One Love Island viewer tweeted she was; "nearly crying at the fact Francesca has acne scarring". Another got emotional stating it was "refreshing" for someone who struggles with their skin every day "to see an amazingly beautiful girl like Francesca show off her bare face and acne to the world without shame". These are real people, lets remember. Real people who are thankful to see something familiar on the small screen.

Image: Twitter/@micckjaggerr

Though each islander is stunningly beautiful in their own ways, imperfections show their humanity. Just because they're on a screen doesn't mean they aren't just like us. That the kids watching them – and yes there are kids as young as 12 waiting up for the series each night- can see that skin imperfections can be gorgeous and above all, normal.

Considering Francesca's skin is still by advertising and media standards damn near perfect, it says a lot that the response to even a few minor scars has been incredibly positive and emotional.

A teeny tiny step, y’all say, but if we don’t applaud the tiny steps; the larger ones will be further out of reach. Celebrate the minor achievements and aim higher.

Now… Crack on with some stretch marks, dermatological disorders and cellulite please, ITV. We want to feel seen.

The 'Irish Zac Efron' (bold claim) has joined the cast of Love Island USA and is ready to set pulses racing on the reality show.

Cormac has definitely got his eyes set on the €88,000 prize money, which is far more than the UK winners' amount. The format is generally the same as the UK counterpart, only much less risqué.

Love Island USA is broadcast on CBS to millions of viewers, and the show will run until August 7. Irish viewers can catch it on Virgin Media Two and ITVBe in the UK.
