Sex plays a huge part of our lives, whether you’re having it, not having it, wanting it, not wanting it and everything in between, it motivates us daily in ways we probably don’t even think about. Despite this, it’s still not an open talking point. Private Education, a new podcast hosted by Aisling Keenan wishes to change this taboo, by having informal and educational chats about all things sex and relationships.

The first of its kind in Ireland, the podcast is all about open communication and understanding in the hopes to lead to more acceptance.

Sex education is lacking in schools and this doesn’t stop once you reach adulthood. Having written about it for so long, Aisling Keenan found that there was a lot of interest in the intricacies of sex and different relationships but there weren’t enough people talking openly about it. Private Education is an open space for people to talk in a healthy, informed and comfortable manner, with no subject ruled out.

Learn how different relationships work, from gay and lesbian relationships to open relationships to being single in your 30s and 40s. Listen to what’s going on behind closed doors in a fun and often hilarious manner, with the aim to normalise the way we talk about sex. The weekly podcast is like sitting down with your friends to have a chat, with guests so far including James Kavanagh, Laura Young from Laura’s Views and Fionnuala Jay, Karen Constantine from Lovely Girly Bits and Catherine Carton from Dainty Dress Diaries, Laura Cunningham and Andrea Horan are also confirmed to feature over the coming weeks.

Topics discussed include sex education in schools, stereotypes in the gay community and the ten most googled sex questions, so each show has something for everyone. The podcast is for anyone interested in sex, relationships and sexual health.

Aisling Keenan is a freelance journalist from Dublin who was previously the editor of XPOSÉ Magazine and XPOSÉ Beauty Bible, beauty editor for U Magazine and beauty columnist for the Irish Independent Weekend Magazine. She is also a regular contributor on radio, having appeared on shows such as RTÉ 2FM, Newstalk and SPIN 1038 while also appearing frequently on TV3's XPOSÉ.

Private Education wishes to change the narrative and allow people to talk about things in an open and healthy manner. Did you know for example the most googled sex question is “Where is the G spot?”! Or what a Bear is in the Gay Community? Private Education has all the answers. It’s like sex ed for adults.

We've all been absolutely addicted to Love Island over the last four weeks, and it's reminding us how tricky the single life can be.

Especially when seemingly angelic boys like Michael and Curtis stab you in the BACK at a moment's notice. We're not over it yet, it will take time. To distract us, why not attend this gas single's event?

McGowans of Phibsborough host a single's party on the first Friday of every month from 10pm, and it's becoming a huge success for the pub.

Image: Eventbrite/McGowans

Their next party is on Friday, July 12, and it could be the ideal spot to meet your perfect match and put a ring on it. Or just a great night out to have a few drinks, join in the games or just mingle with the DJ.

The pub have had so many enquiries that they've even added an extra date to due high demand, seeing as people evidently want to find that spark with someone during the summer time.

Whether you're just looking for lust or love, the party looks like unreal craic. They've got icebreakers in case you came alone, and games for you and your best wingman/wingwoman.

Summer can be a tricky time when you're single, or it can be the perfect season to have some fun with strangers. This event is definitely more of a relaxed environment, and you'll 100 percent have fun.

Entry is free of charge, you begin the night with a playing card and a free glass of Prosecco. If you can find the card's match then you get a complimentary drink.

Basically it's encouraging socialising through the handy means of alcohol. It gives you plenty of excuses to chat up the lad or lass you've been eyeing up the entire night…

McGowans do plenty on the night to calm your nerves and allow you to embrace the chilled out and fun atmosphere in the pub.

Register for free on Eventbrite for McGowan's Singles Party on July 12, and drag a mate along if you must.

You'll either find a lifelong lover or just a hilarious disaster dating story to tell the grand-kids. Either way, there's booze and banter to enjoy, so throw caution to the wind.

The popular dating app Bumble has finally created a new tool to fight back against unsolicited d*ck pics being sent and received by its users.

An AI named 'Private Detector' will be able to scan images sent in chats for signs of X-rated imagery and blur them out as well as assigning a warning.

55 million people use the app, which is claiming that it can separate out the lewd pictures with 98 percent accuracy.

The firm said: "With our revolutionary AI, we're able to detect potentially inappropriate content and warn you about the image before you open it."

"We're committed to keeping you protected from unsolicited photos so you can have a safer experience meeting new people on Bumble," the company stated.

Bumble is one of Tinder's major competitors, but works by only allowing women to initiate a chat with their matches. The app is one of the few that allows its users to trade images.

In June, the AI technology trained to spot nudes will start flagging possible rude images as soon as they land in your inbox.

The pic will be blurred and will also involve a message underneath that reads: "This photo is blurred to protect you from inappropriate content." Recipients can either block and report the image or open it anyway.

Private Detector was created specifically to tackle a plague of sexual harassment and abuse which has been streaming from dating apps for years. Especially for the safety of women, dating apps can be a dangerous feature.

A YouGov poll recently found that more than half of young women have received nude pictures online, and three quarters of images were unsolicited.

"The sharing of lewd images is a global issue of critical importance," said Andrey Andreev. "It falls upon all of us in the social media and social networking worlds to lead by example and to refuse to tolerate inappropriate behaviour on our platforms."

Andreev heads up Badoo, the network of dating apps which includes Bumble.

The organisation's bosses slammed a misogynistic "small-minded" fat-shamer in a recent open letter, and banned him from the app, according to The Sun.

When decorating your bedroom the key is to dedicate this space to sleep and intimacy, reflecting a relaxing and rejuvenating environment. Essentially, the words to associate with the bedroom of your home are: rest, romance and relaxation.

I used Feng Shui to call in my husband into my life. I made space in my wardrobe, I bought spare hangers for him, had an empty bedside table and also a high shelf in my bedroom empty (wanted a tall husband)

Here are my tips to create a bedroom magnetic to love:

Focus on creating a ‘sanctuary’, frame your thinking about your bedroom in terms of relaxation. Does your bedroom represent rest, romance, and relaxation? If it doesn't, it's time to honour the space where you get your rest, where you sleep, where you have intimate relations with your partner.

Powerful positioning

The better rested you are, the stronger you will be and the more able you are to look after your body and support your family. To make sure you get the best rest, let’s look at the way your bed is set up.

To create harmony and call in love in a bedroom – think about pairs and balance on both sides of the bed having a great bed with comfortable mattress, two nightstands with two lamps of equal size. Ensure everything is matched and harmonious. However, on your nightstand, make sure you only place items that are relevant to you and your relationship status right now.

Keep your nightstand of clutter, including most books. Bear in mind that the bedroom is a place of rest, romance, relaxation, so the bedroom is not the place for a whole library of books. Books carry a great deal of energy, information and charge, which affect your sleep if stored in the bedroom. If you have nowhere else to keep your books, put them inside a cupboard or wardrobe, or ensure the books aren’t on display towards you while you’re in bed.

Switching off

Ensure all work-related items, computers, TV, electronics and exercise equipment are in another room. If you can't live without a TV or your partner doesn't want to get rid of the TV from the bedroom, also cover that while you sleep.

Like work, exercise equipment represents a feeling of doing work, so you don’t want to see this as you’re falling asleep either.

Are you in bed with your phone? Get it out of the bedroom buy a traditional alarm clock and honour your relationship.

Calming colour

When creating a sanctuary colour makes a real difference. Best colours for bed linen are creams, browns and earth tones. Combine these tones with colours you love in the décor of your bedroom with a splash of colour that makes you feel happy, keeping the overall ambience calm.

Bear in mind also that pillows, duvets and sheets should feel luxurious.

Powerful artwork

Imagery is so important in the bedroom and crucial for attracting a loving relationship, be mindful of the pairings you introduce to this space. While you are asleep your subconscious mind is taking in all the images that you have in your bedroom. Think about making your bedroom a physical vision board for the relationship of your dreams making sure the pictures you are hanging up reflect what you want to welcome into your life. What do you want to welcome in?

If you are in a relationship, add in a stunning photo of yourself together with your partner. Choose one that sparks joy, such as a memory of an amazing day together, your wedding day or your first date. The image should make you feel incredible, so that each time you see it, you think, "I love that picture of us."

Hang images facing you in bed and not over your head – this can make you feel unsafe and the image can disturb your dreams.

If you are single and want to attract love, add a picture of a couple doing something that you would love to be doing with a partner. The image should spark joy and inspire you.

Keeping your room, clear, clean and organised with a feeling of a sanctuary will bring you so much more sleep and joy in your life and relationships.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, we've got some wonderful news for those who adore mingling in other countries with singletons. Surrounded by wine.

According to CNN Business, the dating app Bumble is planning to open a cafe in Soho, a trendy New York City neighbourhood. The cafe will then transform into a wine bar when the sun sets.

Think Cinderella but probably without the prince. The app clearly wants to allow its users to mingle in real life, as opposed to on a screen.

The venue will be called Bumble Bew, and the space may serve as a meeting ground for dating app users who are looking for love, a new friend or a business colleague.

Bumble was first launched in 2014, and has since expanded to Bumble BFF for finding pals and Bumble Bizz for networking to the max. It garnered fame for allowing women to make the first move.

Their NYC spot will be Bumble Brew's first permanent location, after pop-ups happened in London, Los Angeles and Toronto.

The pop-ups were used for far more than just hooking up, and we're seriously impressed at how rapidly the company has been expanding and diversifying.

A print magazine in collaboration with Hearst Magazines has also been announced.

The company was founded by Whitney Wolfe Herd, formerly of Tinder, and is almost entirely owned  by Russian billionaire Andrey Andreev.

When it comes to dating, finding someone with similar interests to you can often be hugely important. Especially when those interests include magical worlds, fantastic creatures and beasts, and cruel deaths.

Game of Thrones fans and Harry Potter lovers are often pretty…intense…when it comes to their appreciation of the world-famous novels and franchises. It makes sense that they'd have a lot in common.

A study has taken place at the University of Oklahoma, where researchers analysed over 400 readers (male and female) and measured their exposure to various fiction genres, and the results are vital for your fantasy-fuelled love lives.

Image: HBO

The attitudes of the participants towards gender roles and sexual behaviour were also studied, and we are loving this form of science.

The readers were tested on their exposure to seven different genres- classics, contemporary literary fiction, romance, fantasy, science fiction, thriller, and horror. They were also asked for their views on a series of toxic beliefs about relationships.

These beliefs included quips such as: "disagreement is destructive", "mind-reading is expected", "romantic partners cannot change", "the sexes are different" and "the expectation of sexual perfection".

The respondents were told to explain to which degree they agreed or disagreed with the alternating statements. All in the name of love.

Image: YouTube

The study is called. 'What you read and what you believe: Genre exposure and beliefs about relationships' and was published in the Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts journal.

The results found that people who had the most exposure to fantasy genres and sci-fi had the healthiest beliefs about how loving relationships should function.

We bet Dumbledore gave some decent wisdom about Tinder swiping.

Interestingly, readers who enjoyed fantasy and science fiction novels were "less likely to support the belief that disagreement is destructive". Fighting can be a healthy way to air grievances, even if it's with a wand or a sword…

Fans of the fantasy genre were also less likely to hold "the belief that partners cannot change, the belief that sexes are different, and the belief that mind-reading is expected in relationships".

Stephanie C. Stern led the research team at the University of Oklahoma, and wrote of their findings; "Individuals who scored higher for exposure to science fiction and fantasy were less likely to endorse four unrealistic relationship beliefs."

Even Jon Snow realised that having a fling with your aunt is a little too unorthodox for him, but Cersei and Jaime endorse the incest vibe.

Ron and Hermione bickered their way through the HP franchise, but made peace in the end with a big sloppy kiss after destroying a Horcrux. Seems like a good way to find love?

It's no secret – the Love Island couples are dropping like flies.

So much so that the only couple still going strong are the 2018 champions, Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham.

There has been three break ups this month – Megan and Wes, Josh and Kaz and Zara and Adam.

So WTF is going on?

Well, who would know better than Caroline Flack aka host of the ITV show?

On the red carpet at the BRIT awards she told Cosmopolitan UK why she thinks these couples aren't feeling the love anymore.

She said, ''It's break-up season. You have the three month itch, then the seven month itch. There we go!"

So it has nothing to do with Love Island itself and more just a case regular relationship stuff.

She was shocked by one split though, more so then the others.

She said, ''I was surprised about Zara and Adam, I'm secretly hoping they're going to get back together.''

Montana Brown, contestant on the 2017 series, also gave her opinion a sto why the couples are calling it a day.

She said, ''They’re all really young and at the start of their career. It’s really hard to grow with somebody when you’re in the limelight dealing with all this extra attention.''

She continued, ''You develop trust issues as soon as you leave Love Island and get this automatic anxiety, almost, because you’re not used to it. You’re in such a bubble when you’re there, you don’t realise how big the show is then suddenly it’s all photos, you’ve got to be media trained and watch what you say all the time, who you’re with and watch where you’re going.''

Sounds like a nightmare to us – fair play to those that stand the test of time – wonder will Dani and Jack stick it out?

Women's Aid have launched a new guide on safety orders for young women who are experiencing abuse in their relationships, due to new laws being introduced.

The legislation brought in at the beginning of this year allows women who are going through dating abuse to apply for Safety and Protection orders.

Women's Aid are instigating the guide on Valentine's Day as part of the #TooIntoYou campaign to emphasise the darker side of love.

RTÉ's Can't Stop Dancing presenter Bláthnaid Treacy is also urging young women and men to "know the signs of dating abuse", especially because 60 percent of abuse in relationships begins before the age of 25.

Women's Aid are a national organisation which provides vital information and support to women experiencing dating abuse and domestic violence. Their #TooIntoYou campaign aims to spread much-needed awareness on the topic.

#TooIntoYou uses social media and poster advertising to strive for the spread of information from February 14 until March 8 (International Women's Day).

New laws brought in at the start of 2019 under the Domestic Violence Act 2018 allow women to apply for important Safety and Protection laws.

However, the organisation believes that many young women are still in the dark about the change and how to get the necessary protection, which is why Women's Aid ae bringing in the 'Guide to Safety Orders in Dating Relationships' online today.

Spotting the 10 key danger signs of dating abuse and providing information to combat online stalking and digital abuse is of imperative importance for women in Ireland today.

Margaret Martin, Director of Women’s Aid says:

"1 in 5 women in Ireland experience abuse in relationships and in a national survey on domestic abuse in Ireland, almost 60 percent of those who had experienced severe abuse in intimate relationships first experienced it when they were under the age of 25."

"A stark reminder of this risk is that 1 in every 2 women, aged between 18-25, killed in Ireland since 1996 were murdered by their boyfriends or exes," Martin concluded.

The campaign is being launched on Valentine's Day to highlight the hidden reality of many young women's relationships, despite the fact that today is traditionally associated with love and romance.

Martin's goal for today, is to ask the hard questions; "We are clearly asking – what part of love is abuse?" She spoke directly to victims and survivors; “You are not alone in feeling something isn't right with your relationship."

It's a tale as old as time.

Good girl falls for bad boy…but what about when it's not as innocent as that?

What comes to my mind is that scene in Goodfellas (if you haven't seen this masterpiece – wtf, watch it ASAP).

Karen is dating gangster Henry for a few months when he attacks her neighbour who tried it on with her.

Henry breaks his nose with a gun, threatens to kill him if he goes near Karen again and then hands Karen the bloodied gun to hide.

Her response?

''I know there are women, like my best friends, who would have gotten out of there the minute their boyfriend gave them a gun to hide. But I didn't. I got to admit the truth. It turned me on.''

And there is the crux of what this article is about.

Why are some women so attracted to men who are genuinely dangerous?

Forget the likes of Chuck Bass and Jess Mariano, I'm talking about men who are capable of stalking, of hurting, of killing.

Image result for joe you gif

The men we're romanticising

The whole fancying men who should be strictly undesirable has gotten a fresh lease of life, thanks to 2018/2019's popular culture.

Thanks to Netflix, two shows have captured the zeitgeist of our modern social climate – You and a resurgence in interest in Ted Bundy with a documentary and a new movie starring Zac Efron titled Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

Firstly, You focuses on a young man played by former Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley who is a stalker and murderer.

So, someone to avoid at all costs, you would think.

However, because he is also good-looking, he has had swarms of female viewers swooning over him in ways that are worrying on many levels.

Think tweets like, ''Why am I so attracted to Joe from you he seems so sweet but that’s how they get ya'' and ''Joe from you creeps me out but at the same time I’m attracted to him???????''

In a similar fashion, Ted Bundy was an infamous serial killer, murdering many women in the 1970s and 1980s.

But, you guessed it, people are focusing on what his face looked like and overlooking the fact that he killed repeatedly in cold blood. It also doesn't help that Zac Efron plays him in the Netflix movie.

Back when Ted was alive, he had tons of groupies sending him letters, women who couldn't believe he committed these horrible crimes because he was handsome.
Do we ignore gut feelings of not being safe if a guy is hot?
Or are we attracted to the fact that he isn't safe?
It seems that the latter definitely has some truth in it, but why?

Image result for gif of zac efron as ted bundy

Why do we do it?

Women are drawn to these unstable men for many reasons.

Karen Kwong, an Organisational Psychologist, says that it's down to the concept of “love is blind” and that people like characters that are mysterious and intriguing.

Psychopaths are known to be charming – disarmingly so, just like Ted was and Joe is.

Karen says, ''Typically psychopaths are extremely charming and confident, often venturing deep into narcissism. So on a good day, they’d be fun to hang out with and will flatter you endlessly. Their confidence will be a great draw.''

That's kinda scary tbh.

And there's actually a word for this pull that some of us experience with men that we should be steering clear of.

It's called hybristophilia and makes a lot of sense – how many of us have tried to ''fix'' guys?

It tunes into our nurturing instincts and belief that we can change this guy with our love.

Fan culture

Social media is allowing a fan culture to develop around finding psychopaths hot.

And while it is a great way for viewers to discuss the shows, it can be harmful when others are voicing things like, ''All the hot guys are f*cked up.''

Penn Badgely himself stepped in when the narrative following the release of You turned his character into an object of desire even after he murdered people.

In answer to a viewer who said, ''Said this already but @PennBadgley is breaking my heart once again as Joe. What is it about him?'', he wrote, ''A. He is a murderer.''

There is an intense fan culture surrounding these type of men – Jamie Dornan in The Fall is another example.

The Irish actor portrayed a serial killer – yet he was glamorised because he is also a bit of a ride.

Fans flocked to social media to express how gorgeous he is – forgetting to mention the fact that he murders people.

One said, ''I haven’t started You yet but if y’all like thirsting after a psychopath let me tell you AGAIN to watch The Fall. Jamie Dornan does DISTURBING shit & he’s still hot. A. F.''

I rest my case.

While this culture is worrying at best, it does start a conversation about what traits to look out for if you find yourself in a relationship where something doesn't feel right.

The traits to watch out for include;

Charm, like I mentioned before. If your partner changes his personality around others and you feel like it's superficial – it might be something to note.

Emotional coldness is another red flag.

Are they empathetic? Do they get upset, cry, does anything affect them? It should because they are human like us….but if they seem unperturbed by everything, that doesn't look good.

Image result for the fall jamie dornan gif

Watch out or manipulation – is everything always your fault somehow and never theirs? That's a form of control.

Also, if you're in a relationship with someone who is playing the hot-and-cold game, run for the hills.

They are testing you and could be straying also – who needs that mental torture?

Obviously, it goes without saying, if you feel unsafe in any way at any time with them, you shouldn't be with them anymore (sounds duh but hard when you love someone).

So, if you're one of the viewers who has expressed their desire for men who are convicted murders/stalkers etc., maybe you should delve a bit deeper into why you're having these feelings.

Remember, having a boyfriend who is dangerous might seem thrilling but it's just that – dangerous.

And there's nothing sexy about being with someone who doesn't make you feel safe – no matter how drop-dead (excuse the pun) gorge they are.

It might be mere days away from what's meant to be the most romantic day of the year but not everyone has love on their mind.

Tomorrow is what is known as Red Tuesday (February 12) and that ain't good news for anyone in a relationship rn.

According to research, it is the most popular day to get dumped on.

The survey showed that a third of people surveyed (37%) said they had broken up with a lover in the week before Valentine’s.

And how did they do it?
The vast majority of people prefer to end the relationship without meeting their estranged partner face-to-face, which is better but still OUCH.

When it came to how they did it, 31% of respondents, followed by a phone call (28%), in person (27%), over Facebook (8%), by WhatsApp (4%) and over Twitter (2%).

Interesting.

IllicitEncounters.com ran the survey and found out that eight out of ten people (78%) having an affair with still choose to spend Valentine’s Day with their regular partner.
Only 16% – one in six – will leave their regular partner in the lurch and go out for a date with their lover on February 14.

But why do so many breakups happen on this day?

It's because February 14 focuses people’s minds on whether their relationship is really working – which is fair.

So they dump their other half and save money on pressies as well as false declarations of love.

IllicitEncounters.com spokesman Christian Grant said, ''The period between Christmas and February is a popular time for people to spring clean their love lives as well as their homes. For lots of people, it is easier to call time on a relationship rather than pretend everything is fine and tell lots of white lies.''

He continued, ''What’s more interesting is looking at the body language of couples out on February 11, 12 or 13 – they are likely to be having a lot more fun while having an affair, celebrating Valentine’s together a few days early before returning to their partners.”

So if your bf/gf is acting strange today…get some Ben &Jerry's and tissues in…just in case.

Many of us have the unpleasant experience under our belt of dating an absolute snake. You know the one; the eternal f*ckboi who most likely ghosts you after slithering into your heart, who can't commit to a relationship and even cheats.

He's fluent in Parseltongue and has been a core member of the Slytherin Quidditch team for years.

His best mate is Draco Malfoy, he calls him 'Malfy' for short, and goes golfing with his dad Lucius every Saturday.

He wears Taylor Swift's snake print Reputation merch, but won't listen to her empowering tunes. He makes you pay for both of you on nights out, and flirts with your mates.

He gaslights the crap out of you, and gives double-handed compliments that are disguised as compliments.

Most likely he says he wants more space, even though you barely see him, and tries to argue that your relationship is casual instead of serious, no matter what the circumstances are.

Sounds familiar? Well, we've got some hiss-worthy revenge for you, best served cold.

Many of us may have already begun planning a present for our significant other for THAT special (dreaded?) day every year; Valentine's Day.

From chocolates, red roses and bling to diamond engagement rings (eugh), most people tend to go for the clichés.

Dealz have never really been known for their thoughtful, meaningful V-Day gifts. Or so we thought…

Yep, Dealz have created the gift of… nothing… especially for us this year. How thoughtful.

If you intend on breaking up with your boyfriend/girlfriend/friend/co-worker/enemy/pet/frenemy/neighbour, this would do the trick. It's the perfect way of telling someone, "Hey, you really do mean absolutely nothing to me."

Who said romance is dead? Dealz have just revived the motherf*cker for us all to enjoy.

Some of may play that old game where we say we actually want nothing so that we look polite, selfless, even regal. But we all know it's BULLSH*T. WE WANT PRESENTS.

Whether it's one ring, or even seven like Ariana Grande, we're expecting something worthy of our time.

So while we may chuckle at Dealz' gift, if anyone ever got us this, there'd be hell to pay. Seriously.
