Romance

Tyler Shelton has video blogged every single day of his twenties, so when it came time to propose to his girlfriend Haylee Rose, he knew it had to be pretty special.

While the proposal itself, which took place on a beautiful cobbled street in Rome, is pretty special, it's the days and weeks leading up to it that really had us tearing up.

Haylee's father Greg passed away last April, long before Tyler ever had the chance to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage. Instead, he asks each of Haylee's three siblings for their individual blessings, and dedicates the whole proposal to Greg himself.

"Dear Greg," he wrotes in the touching video. "I'm going to marry your daughter. I always thought of how I was going to ask for your blessing one day, and now that day is here. I wish you were here to hand your baby girl off to me, so I promise to be more than you would ever want me to be."

He continues: "I want to be the man who shares her love and patience and gives her everything she needs. I'll tell her exactly how beautiful she is, and I'll show her how to believe in herself. I will take care of her. I want to give her experiences people only dream of, and love her unconditionally, because I wouldn't want to see the world with anybody else."

Prepare to shed a few tears watching this…

This really is the most romantic story you will hear all week.

A married man in the US is planning a second wedding for himself and his wife, as she no longer remembers their special day. Jeremy Stamper's wife was left with amnesia 19 days after their wedding following a car accident in which her vehicle was hit by a truck.

Although she was incredibly lucky to survive, Justice has struggled in other ways since the accident, having been left with amnesia as a result of her injuries. As a result, the newlywed still cannot remember anything from about five weeks before her wedding to the day itself. Luckily, her doting husband decided to recreate the whole day to help her make brand new memories.

"She said 'I don't want you to be mad… but I do not remember the wedding.' I was heart broken and instantly said I would do it all again for her," the groom explained on the FundMe page he set up to raise money for a second big day.

On the anniversary of their first wedding, the two will get married all over again.

Don't mind us, just something in our eye…

An American woman was queuing at the Eiffel Tower a week ago when she spotted a man on the verge of proposing to his girlfriend.

Jen Hurd Bohn subequently took some seriously romantic pictures of the couple as he popped the question – thankfully she said yes, and they kissed and hugged in celebration.

Jen afterwards took to Facebook to share her observation – with the snaps now going viral in the hope that the husband-and-wife-to-be can be found.

Ms Hurd Bohn captioned her Facebook post: "Saw this guy propose to this girl on the Eiffel Tower Sunday 6/21/15 wanted to send them the pics but was stuck in line. Help me find them!"

Jen commented on the post guessing they were too from America "I want to at least try!

"I've got friends across the country and, by their clothes, I'm guessing they're from the US. Somebody knows somebody who was in Paris last week and got engaged…"

This Facebook post has now been shared thousands of times and has even featured on news stations across America.

We hope they are found soon!

When it comes to men, we fall for them in movies the same way we do in real life. They could be mean, selfish or a player but we just can't help ourselves…

Here are five movie characters we can't help but fall for.

1. Lon in The Notebook
He isn't Noah, but they didn't give him any unlovable qualities either. Our hearts did break for him, numerous times…why would they do that to us?

2. Jake in Sweet Home Alabama
That first love you will just never get over no matter how much you fight. You don't know why you love him, you just do.

3. Daniel in Bridget Jones's Diary
The player you always go back to but know you should really avoid at all costs but never do, ever.

4. Ben in Knocked up
Not exactly the ideal boyfriend material, but over time you can't shake the feelings anymore.

5. Ben in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
A ladies man who believes he can make a girl fall in love with him within 10 days…WE VOLUNTEER.

Now, we know many of you will be flocking to the cinema to see Fifty Shades of Grey this Valentine’s Day – however, we have movies for those who aren’t into that kind of thing too.

These movies are classics; both modern and old and are good enough to watch alone and not feel lonely.

You don't have to have a Valentine to appreciate the day of love y'know! After all, as long as hot water bottles exists, who REALLY needs a fella?

Romeo + Juliet
Baz Luhrmann's take on Romeo + Juliet will go down in history as one of the greats. Making it modern and with a serious soundtrack, you'll find yourself wondering why Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio didn't end up together in real life…

10 Thing I Hate About You
Any excuse to see Heath Ledger's performance as Patrick is fine by us! This movie is based (loosely of course!) on The Taming Of The Shrew and all of the characters are so well thought out. Not to mention the epic love story between Kat and Patrick.

Casablanca
Such a romantic classic – if you haven't seen this yet then you NEED to get on it. Made in 1942 and starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart, the movie is responsible for classic quotes such as "We'll always have Paris" and "Here's lookin' at you, kid". Oh the heartbreak!

The Notebook
Oh come on, how could we leave it out?! Allie and Noah's love story started in a book by Nicholas Sparks before being immortalised on screen by Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. Since then the movie has become a staple romantic film and we reckon it could be a classic in years to come.

Pretty Woman
Richard Gere and Julia Roberts were the face of early Nineties romance after this movie's release in 1990. That fire escape scene though…

Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen's classic novel was taken to screens countless times; in a mini series with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy and again in a 2005 movie with Matthew McFayden and Keira Knightley in the title roles. Mr. Darcy will always be the ultimate heartthrob and Elizabeth Bennett the heroine.

Titanic
Jack and Rose, played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet respectively, are the star-crossed lovers of the "unsinkable" ship. All we'll say on this one is: she could have moved over.

An Affair to Remember
Often old movies don't appeal to our generation, however with An Affair to Remember, prepare to feel as if Cary Grant is personally breaking your heart…

The Fault In Our Stars
A movie adapted from the book by John Green of the same name; Hazel and Augustus Waters' love story in the face of unthinkable heartbreak will reduce you to tears pretty quickly.

When Harry Met Sally
Does it get any more classical than the modern love between Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal? No, it doesn't! The best line? "I'll have what she's having."

When we think of romance, our minds no doubt wander to the classic city of love, Paris. While Irish couples still love a trip to the capital of romance, it’s not their number one choice…

Ah, date night. It always seems like a great idea in theory – romance, reigniting that spark, spending quality time together – and yet it never goes quite to plan.

One of you will always be cranky, or too tired, or you'll both be flat-out broke and resentful at the idea of spending any more than a fiver on dinner.

If you've ever experienced the joy of a date night gone wrong, then some of these might ring a few bells.

Expectation: You'll arrive home early from work with plenty of time for preening and primping before your romantic night.

Reality: Two full busses will pass your stop in a row and you'll arrive home an hour later than usual, soaking wet and full of rage from battling with commuters.

Expectation: You'll be glowing, with perfect make-up and that new dress you got for Christmas.

Reality: You manage to get a streak of fake tan on the new dress and have to swap it out for your old reliable LBD which isn't so reliable after six weeks of shunning the gym. Oops. As for your make-up, well, caking more foundation on over today's make-up is okay, right? RIGHT?

Expectation: You two will enjoy a relaxing glass of wine as you wait for the taxi to arrive.

Reality: He will enjoy a relaxing glass of wine as you run around the house looking for that other high heel. HOW DID IT END UP BEHIND THE TV?

Expectation: You'll arrive at the restaurant in plenty of time and gaze at eachother romantically over a gorgeous meal.

Reality: You'll arrive late and have to hang on for a new table. After an hour's wait for your food, that romantic gazing is getting old fast.

Expectation: You'll feed each other delicious bites of your meals.

Reality: JOEY DOESN'T SHARE FOOD.

Expectation: You'll finish your meal and stroll through the city arm in arm.

Reality: It will be lashing rain and you'll have to beg him for a loan of his hoodie. Request denied!

Expectation: You'll arrive home and fall into bed for a night of amazing sex.

Reality: You'll arrive home and fall into bed snoring after too many glasses of wine. Ah, the romance!

Weekends away with your other half are a chance to relax, unwind and reacquaint yourselves with each other minus the stress of work and responsibilities.

Oh, why can’t we have a weekend away EVERY weekend? Well, because they aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, that’s why.

Here are just a few reasons they don't pan out as planned.

Expectation: Your hotel bedroom will look like the suite in Pretty Woman.
Reality: Your hotel bedroom will look like the €59.00 room you paid for.

Expectation: You will have a long, lingering, romantic bath together.
Reality: You will have a bruise on your bum after slipping in the broken shower.

Expectation: You’ll order room service and have breakfast in bed.
Reality: You’ll order your boyfriend to give you the energy bar you saw in his sports bag last night. Mmm… squishy.

Expectation: You’ll languish on your kingsize bed in robes and chat about your future.
Reality: You’ll languish outside in the hall because staring at that brown swirly bedroom carpet is making you claustro.

Expectation: You’ll take a long romantic walk on the beach.
Reality: You’ll take a long, romantic walk around the Joe Dolan statue…which is nowhere near the sea…something you knew when you booked your €59 room in the midlands.

Expectation: You’ll swan through the hotel lobby like that couple everyone wants to be.
Reality: You’ll swan off furiously because he lost the damn swipe card for the room.

Expectation: He’ll meet you in the hotel bar and you’ll gorge on each other’s fabulousness all evening.
Reality: He’ll meet you wandering around the lobby looking confused because the bedroom carpet gave you a mild migraine.

Expectation: You’ll have mad, passionate sex on your king size bed, then the floor, then the bed again, then the chair…
Reality: You’ll have mediocre sex once all weekend because the damn mattress is squeakier than Joe Pasquale.

Expectation: You’ll want to do it all over again.
Reality: You’ll want to do it all over again.

Awwww!

Ever watched a film and then watched the same scene over and over? Yeah, us too. Whether it’s the atmosphere, the chemistry between the characters or the accompanying music, some scenes are just stand-outs. And we all know that romantic ones, if done well, can have us pressing rewind for days on end.

Here are just a few love scenes that we not only wanted to watch, but actually wanted to STAR in. Girls, are you with us on these?

The Departed
Billy, played by Leonardo Di Caprio, rocked up to Madolyn’s house in torrential rain, complimented her old photos and when neither them (nor us) could take the tension anymore, catapulted into each other.

Clothes came off and bodies melded, all to the atmospheric sounds of Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd.  Ehm yeah, we’ll take that.

The Notebook
We know the moment that Noah and Allie finally made love was really romantic and all, but was anyone even more moved by the scene which saw Allie discover the painting room Noah had made for her?

The paper arrows, her childlike curiosity and the look on her face when she realised that Noah was encouraging the passion that the other man in her life had completely dismissed. Oh, we can’t take it!

Pretty Woman
Vivian had finally extracted herself from the man that had shown her there was more to life than the gritty Hollywood streets, but he wasn’t letting her go that easy.

Facing his fear of heights, he climbs the fire escape to her top floor apartment , armed with roses, and plays out her Prince Charming fantasy. Do these things actually happen in real life? Who cares, rewind!

Cruel Intentions
After the multiple ups and downs of their relationship, it was only fair that Sebastian and Annette experienced a loving, tender first night together, right?

The lead up with the declaration of love, the camera angles, their glistening skin and the gentle words of reassurance. It was perfect. And if we’re being honest, we also got a secret thrill at now knowing what Reese and Ryan looked like in their pre-divorce bed. Wowza.

Juno
When 16-year-old Juno reveals her love for Paulie on the school’s running track and goes on to list the various reasons she finds him perfect, we got a major attack of the feels.

Her vulnerability, his vulnerability, the tic-tacs; what MORE could you want from a romantic scene?

It looks like this Gossip Girl romance is back on!

Yes, Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle look like they may be officially an item again!

Following the breakdown of their respective marriages, by 2012 the couple were said to be in a relationship and were spotted kissing.

However, things went quiet from then on…until now that is.

Over the past two weeks Kelly and Matthew have been sharing cute photos of themselves together on their Instagram accounts – Kelly’s with a little heart as a caption. We really hope these two are together and not just (very) good friends as they are officially the cutest!

Kelly could use some good news after a judge sent her children to live with their father in France back in August.

The mum-of-two is reported to have filed an appeal against the ruling, deeming the decision "unconstitutional": "The children have a fundamental right to reside in their own country and the loss of fundamental rights even for a brief period is irreparable."

Relationships can have their ups and downs, but if you find yourself agreeing with most of the below – you might just be meant to be!

1. Your humour is so in sync

You frequently say the same jokes at the same time, or make references to TV shows that have most people scrambling. You love the same movies and shows. You both think the other is hilarious. They can make you laugh like no other person can. When you’re down all they have to do is say something funny and you’re all better.

2. You each have lives outside of the relationship

You have your own friends so you don’t spend all your free time together. You’re not one of those couples that are constantly hanging off each other that everyone hates. You both have nights out with your friends, neither of you lets your relationship get in the way of your friends.

3. He's nice and kind to you AND your friends

The girls and your parent love him; he's thoughtful, kind and generous to not only you but to those you love.

4. Intelligence & opinions

You can have intellectual conversations and will listen to each other and give your opinions. You respect each other’s intelligence and don’t patronise them or try to make them feel stupid. Because they aren’t.

5. Passions

You each have interests outside of the other. They liked other stuff before you came along and so did you.

6. You do things together

Not just sexy things…You go out on dates, or stay in for dates depending on the state of your bank balance. You go away together and both get involved in the planning and execution of those trips. You try out new hobbies, new food fads, new movies. You love sharing new experiences with them.

7. Honesty & trust

You don’t have any illusions about the other person. You can talk about anything and don’t keep stuff from the each other. You don’t push for information, because you know that they trust you enough to tell you when they’re ready.

8. No cheating or games

You know you would never cheat on them, and you can only assume they feel the same.

9. You just know

Cheesy but true. You don't need an article to tell you that your relationship is in a good place – it just is. And even if you go through a rough patch from time to time, you always come back full circle. After all, if the light bulb breaks in a house, do you move house, or just change the light bulb?
