He's been the unlikely star of Netflix's true crime documentary Making A Murderer, with a love of dad jeans that has even inspired a dedicated Tumblr page.

And this weekend Dean Strang will be arriving on Irish soil, for a just-confirmed appearance on The Ray D'Arcy Show this Saturday Jan 23.

The Wisconsin defence attorney will appear on the show to chat about Steven's case (we hope), and most likely his love of hurling – many Irish viewers got a kick out of spotting a GAA-themed statue in Strang's office:

"I’ve never been to a hurling game," Strang told The Irish Sun of the statue, given to him by an Irish-American friend.

"I’ve never been to Ireland, notwithstanding the 25 per cent of my genome rooted in your soil."

Never been to Ireland? Someone roll out the red carpet at Dublin Airport, this is going to be a VERY exciting weekend.

During the week there was a lot of irritated Irish people on Twitter after Sky News reporter, Richard Suchet, said Saoirse Ronan was British and claimed her as "one of our own."

Of course, there was a huge outcry on social media, and at first the news reporter didn't back down, getting into a war of words with RTÉ on Twitter:

But, he certainly changed his tune last night as Richard, once again, took to Twitter to apologise for what he said.

In the tweet, he stated: "On Saoirse, I apologise. It came out wrong. I know the UK can't claim her, of course. But the British would love to see her win for Ireland."

Many people retweeted his message, but of course, you can't please everyone:

This week, a Sky News reporter referred to Saoirse Ronan as British and "one of ours."

Now, of course, many people took to social media to share their anger that Saoirse, is indeed Irish, and no, you can't claim her.

RTÉ even got involved, calling out the reporter, Richard Suchet, on what he said.

But Richard hit back at the irritated tweets and revealed, to many surprised users, that he didn't misspeak.

And it didn't end there. Richard really seemed like he wanted to start something:

When will it end?!

Many were looking forward to the start of RTE's new drama, Rebellion, which is based around Ireland getting its independence in 1916.

But in episode one, which aired last night, many were shocked by the language used by the fair ladies.

Two of the characters, Frances, played by Ruth Bradley and May, played by Sarah Greene, were heard blindingly swearing about one of them, "f**king an Englishman."

But fear not, because the writer of the show, Colin Teevan, said in a press conference that this was the language the Irish used before we became "Americanised."

He explained while the four-letter word has been used for "the act" for centuries, it wasn't until the 1920s that "f**k off" was used as a phrase.

So all in all, Colin just wanted to keep the script true to the era, and we're just going to have to get used to all the ladies swearing their heads off.

They may be competitors, but it seems that these two Irish television channels have no problem 'borrowing' ideas from one another.

Reports circulated yesterday that TV3 and RTE are at loggerheads over the use of the same music to promote the channels top two soaps, Red Rock and Fair City.

TV3 has accused to state broadcaster of robbing the music used to promote their soap in a new Fair City Christmas special advertisement.

The song in question, Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Lorde, has also previously been used to promote the TV3 soap and now the channel are accusing RTE of stealing their creativity, a source has told the Irish Herald.

"You know what they say – imitation is the highest form of flattery, so I guess we should be happy."

"Red Rock has really upped the ante in Irish soap land, so it can only be a good thing for the future."

However, an insider at RTE has said that the state broadcaster believes that TV3 has over reacted.

"It's not like their theme music was taken – the song is really popular and is very well suited to dramatic themes, so that's why it was used."

The two soaps are said to be going head to head in hour long specials that are to be broadcast on Christmas Day.

May the best soap win!

Teresa Mannion became the nation's hero on Saturday after braving the elements in Galway to report live on Storm Desmond.

Never have our TV screens played witness to such a feat of bravery, as Teresa screamed over gusts of wind and rain to tell us, "DON'T make unnecessary journeys!"

As well as spawning a whole load of tweets, a céilí mash-up and some seriously impressive Photoshopping, Teresa's performance has also been immortalised in clothing form.

Irish t-shirt company Hairy Baby were quick off the mark with this "Teresa Says…" option, which we reckon will be flying off the shelves.

The new style has yet to appear on their website, so it seems the lads at Hairy Baby are still weighing up their options, but we hope it goes live soon.

While you wait, here are a couple of our favourite Teresa appearances:

What a woman.

Weather reporter Teresa Mannion was hailed for her report on #StormDesmond last night. So much so it caused the people of Ireland to go mental on Twitter.

These are just a few of the very funny tweets:

1. She's sure giving Adele a run for her money

2. And the puns were A1

3. Will Ireland be sporting a new make-up look soon?

4. Or is this really a cry for help?

5. And then this happened

6. Some were very concerned about her though

7. And others bowed down to her bravery

8. Which might actually happen

9. Because she totally deserves an award

10. How will she ever top that weather report now?!

We've always known Hozier was a fairly sound lad despite his skyrocketing levels of fame, and now he's proven that yet again.

The Bray native is one of a host of Irish musicians and entertainers taking part in RTÉ 2fm's Christmas charity appeal, to raise much-needed funds for the ISPCC.

This Thursday December 3, 2fm will broadcast live from the window of Benetton on Stephen's Green, where hosts of each show will be joined by some huge Irish names.

As well as Hozier – who we're hoping will sing a song or two – other guests include Jamie Heaslip, Vogue Williams, Hometown, RipTide Movement and Angela Scanlon.

So if you have a few minutes free on your lunch break or are in the capital to get some Christmas shopping done, stop by the window and you could find yourself watching Hozier perform live – albeit behind a pane of glass.

If you can't make it to Stephen's Green, you can follow the action live on 2fm between 7am and 7pm, or check out the updates on Twitter and Facebook.

Plus, Hozier will be performing at the 2fm Ball at the 3Arena on December 23rd, along with Little Green Cars, Gavin James, RipTide Movement, Hudson Taylor and more. Tickets for the event start at €45 and are on sale now in aid of the ISPCC.

As part of the campaign, listeners can also enter to win an incredible 3Arena Golden Ticket, entitling them to two tickets to EVERY show in the 3Arena and EVERY MCD open air concert in 2016. Adele, Little Mix, Rihanna… you name it.

To enter – and donate to the ISPCC – simply text 2fmBall to 50300 between now and Thursday afternoon.

This yuletide season, two (or should that be three?) of our favourite festive stables are FINALLY joining forces: yes, step forward The Late Late Toyshow AND the Christmas jumper – as released by Penneys, no less.

Ho, ho, ho!

Toyshow jumpers: women's [left] and men's [right], both €20

After all, little could get us in the mood for seasonal festivities more than a brightly-coloured geansaí, sourced from our favourite affordable store, along with the airing of a certain live television classic.

Available in chic grey shade and classic navy shades and featuring an adorable Christmasy owl surround by snow, the €20 tops also feature The Late Late Toyshow logo.

Kids jumpers, €15

Along with a stash of fabulously comfy loungewear [priced from €14], and cute kids' items [priced from €10], the attire hits Penneys nationwide this month… all in time for the Ryan Tubridy spectacle, which this year airs on RTE on November 27.

Girls and boys PJs, €10

Better still, with €2 from every purchase going to the Temple Street Foundation, there is really no excuse (we didn't need one, mind) not to get your hands on these festive treats.

Women's lounge set, €14
Men's longe top and bottoms, €15 for the set

To celebrate the launch of the collection, home-grown boyband Hometown earlier visited the children’s hospital to spread some music and Christmas cheer.

Speaking about the collaboration, CEO of The Temple Street Foundation, Denise Fitzgerald, confirmed: “The Toyshow is a beloved national institution and many of our little patients will be watching from their hospital beds on November 27.”

On the back of its successful coverage of the Rugby World Cup, TV3 has now also secured the rights to the 6 Nations contest from 2018 until 2021 – nabbing the deal from RTÉ.

It's a major coup for independent broadcaster – and a serious blow for Montrose.

CEO of 6 Nations Rugby John Feehan said today: "TV3's coverage of Rugby World Cup was very successful and we believe that they will inject new and exciting ideas in the broadcasting of the 6 Nations Championship."

The sporting competition will still be broadcast on RTÉ next year and in 2017 while the current contract runs out.

In a statement, RTÉ admitted the news was "extremely disappointing".

"We have a long and proud tradition of showcasing the 6 Nations and putting our heart and soul into our coverage.

"We want to assure the Irish public that every possible effort was made by RTÉ to retain these rights."

Rugby remains a hugely popular spectacle in this country: over the last two years viewership in Ireland has averaged more than 400,000 per 6 Nations match.

Last night, the news arrived that RTÉ are revamping the Angelus.

Instead of the staring into space we have become so used to after fifty years, we are going to be introduced to a series of one minute broadcasts before the Six One news.

Some of the stars of the new Angelus include a baker, a sculptor, and a book binder and restorer from Athlone.

So, gone be with the days of someone in an Aran jumper watching a candle flicker in silence. Perhaps they might give this aspiring musician a second chance.

Spin 1038 asked their Fully Charged listeners to tweet their suggestions for what should feature in the new and improved Angelus. The suggestions were hilarious and #StickItInTheAngelus has been trending for most of the day.

These are just some of the best:

1. The most timely suggestion:

2. Lest we forget:

3. An Irish institution:

4. A great moment in history:

RTE Ice Tumblr

5. Or any of the many instances when Irish horses thought they were people:

6. The glory days of the quiff:

7. The unspoken favourite hobby:

RTÉ Genre Head of Religious Programmes, Roger Childs, said:

“We are delighted to announce the six newly-commissioned films and The People’s Angelus slot on Fridays and hope that the Angelus will continue to afford people of all faiths and none some quiet space in a hectic day-to-day world.”

The Late Late Toy Show is a little over a month away, and of course we're already planning a night in with Christmas jumpers and copious amounts of Cadbury Roses.

But one lucky sod could actually be part of the annual show's studio audience without having to apply, thanks to a new competition launched by RTÉ today.

For the first time, the Toy Show is going on the road, to check out the singing and dancing talent in cities across Ireland.

All you have to do to enter the new competition is to snap a picture of the Late Late Toy Show car as it travels the country, and post it on Twitter or Facebook.

The car is bright red, so it's hard to miss:

Simply tag your snap with #latelatetoyshow, and you could skip the queue of 200,000 applicants to win yourself two tickets to the big night at the end of November.

Ryan and his red wheels hit Cork today, with auditions to follow in Athlone on October 13, Sligo on October 14 and Dublin on October 19.

Thousands of audition tapes were submitted to RTÉ over the last few weeks, with hopefuls from all 32 counties attending the regional auditions this week.

Close to 1.25m people watched the Late Late Toy Show last year – that's a quarter of the population, btw – with 269 performers and toy testers taking part.
