Ryan Tubridy

It's long been the highlight of the broadcasting calendar: The Late Late Toy Show.

And while in previous times Irish diasporas have had to largely do without, getting the show online has in more recent years allowed those in the further flung locations around the globe to partake live in the spectacle.

Indeed, and with more 1.5million viewers expected to watch the show this Friday, Montrose today confirmed that the Toy Show will be available to watch worldwide for free, live and on-demand on the RTÉ Player.

Hurrah!

Host Ryan Tubridy said in response: "One of the great things about The Late Late Toy Show is that it's the one night when we can collectively forget all the doom and gloom in what has been a very weird year.

"The fact that it is available to watch free across the world means that Irish emigrants get a chance to connect with their home in a way that is absolutely unique to us as a people. Nobody else would understand what this bonkers show is about!"

To get us all in the mood, RTÉ Player today launched the ultimate Late Late Toy Show collection, celebrating the show's TV gold moments through the years. You can watch it here.

The Late Late Toy Show airs on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player this Friday from 9:35pm.

Ah, Ryan. You did us proud last night.

Since it was announced that Katie Hopkins had an appearance on the Late Late, basically the entire population protested against it because, well… let's just say she's not exactly our type of person.

With most interviews, it's all about keeping the celeb more-or-less content, but that was far from Ryan's mind last night.

As Katie acted up like she usually does, Tubbers was taking no BS, even going as far as telling her she's acting like a child (which she was).

And the people of Ireland LOVED it:

Fair play Ryan, we love you even more now.

For the first time in almost 30 years, The Late Late Show will be leaving Ireland to meet a special guest.

Ryan Tubridy has revealed that this week’s show will feature an exclusive Irish interview with legendary singer-songwriter Bruce Springteen.

Speaking of the decision to film in London, the 43-year-old presenter said: “For one night only, The Late Late Show is making a small detour to London for a very special guest.”

“This is very unusual, and not something we do very often, but when The Boss comes calling, you just can't say no.”

“The Irish people have a particular love of Bruce Springsteen, and him for us, and people will see that in the interview,” continued Ryan.

“We hope that people will roll with it because we felt he was someone worth chasing.”

Gay Byrne was the last Late Late host to travel abroad for an interview.  He met Jane Fonda in London in 1989.

Olympian Rob Heffernan, broadcaster Jeremy Pax and model Vogue Williams will also feature on the show.

Look, we've all seen the episodes where the Late Late is just Ryan rounding up his Montrose mates for a bit of a chat.

But credit where it's due – on other occasions Tubers and his band of merry RTÉ researchers really pull out the big guns.

And this Friday is one of those weeks. Up on the couch is none-than Canadian Christmas crooner and all-round hilarious guy Michael Buble.

That's not all, however. Also in studio is Graham Norton, as well as Donal Skeehan, and Kerry footballer Kieran Donaghy.

To top it all up, the Late Late is celebrating the legendary Joe Dolan with tribute performances from – mega-swoon – Nathan Carter.

Hollywood hottie Alexander Skarsgard appeared on the Late Late Show last night to promote his new movie War On Everyone.

He was joined on the couch by his co-star Michael Pena and director John Michael McDonagh, but had quite the awkward moment with Ryan when he said he once “back-packed” in Ireland.

After a confused glance, Alex said: “12 hours, I’ve spent 12 hours here.

“I lived in Leeds for a while. We spent one night in a youth hostel in bunk beds with German back packers.

“We had one meal, and we went to McDonalds,” he laughed.

Michael then joked: "Well done with that research," before Alexander awkwardly added: “Great story guys…"

The lads also didn't realise the show is filmed live, and had another pretty funny moment in the clip above.

If only for the resulting tweets, there is no denying that if you're staying in on a Friday night, The Late Late Show will probably feature at some point.

You opt to "shtick it on for a bit…" and before you know it you're furiously getting your housemates to enter the win-€20K competition, duly clutching your phone in blind hope.

And this week the guest-list isn't looking too shabby either – namely because Ireland's very own better-than-Obama president, Michael Dee, will feature.

"President Higgins will join Ryan to chat about life as the State's first citizen, his plans for the future, and, as the 1916 centenary year winds down, he will share his vision for a new Ireland," a statement from RTE reads.

Meanwhile, writer Stefanie Preissner will tell viewers what inspired her hit new TV drama Can't Cope, Won't Cope and what it feels like to be labelled the "voice of a generation".

Ireland's Paralympics heroes Ellen Keane and Niamh McCarthy will also in studio, talking about their Rio success.

Then the very-funny Jessica Thom will discuss taking the challenge of her Tourette Syndrome and using it as part of her comedy.

PLUS there will be music from The Blizzards.

Now all we need is that €20,000 prize…

It’s been less than two weeks since we revealed national heartthrobs Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan would be appearing on The Late Late Show.

And while we totally understand that we can’t be treated to such big names every single week, is a sheep really the next best thing to Jamie and Cillian?

Along with British adventurer Bear Grylls, Wedding Crashers star Jane Seymour and Irish musician BP Fallon, a sheep will appear in RTÉ studios this Friday night.

OK so Tubs isn’t exactly going to conduct an interview with the woolly creature, but – according to rte.ie – world record sheep shearer Ivan Scott will be using the animal to demonstrate his impressive skillset live in studio.

With a line-up like that you can’t say The Late Late is any ordinary chat show.

Well, we've been rather distracted since the Late Late Show couch hosted not one but TWO home-grown hotties at the weekend.

Cillian Murphy AND Jamie Dornan… sure, look – where would ya be having it.

Anywho, upon repeat watching of the RTÉ One segment, we've been picking up the Murphy-Dornan gems that prove once and for all that the pair of 'em are just about the best things to happen to Ireland in a long time.

Case in point: that moment when – after a spot of protesting too much – Cillian admitted to having a full-colour copy of Jamie's arresting Calvin Klein advert in his downstairs loo (us too, Cill).

Host Tubs couldn't resist flashing up a black and white snap of the now-famous campaign (can't say we blame him), although in response Corkonian actor Cillian threw out something of a dig.

Through a wry smile, he uttered: "I've never seen that before," before adding: "And I never want to see it again!"

"Well for a start that's not true," Jamie himself continued by way of a reply. "I've been to your house."

"You know the little toilet you have under the stairs?" the Down-man asked. "Wallpaper!" he jested while signalling to his Anthropoid co-star.

Cillian's response?

"Nah, that's the colour version…"

A spot of tongue-in-cheek banter? We're choosing to believe not, not least as every bathroom deserves a little bit a Jamie.

The Late Late Show came back with a bang last night, and we have to say, they certainly did it in style.

The line-up included comedian Al Porter, Annalise Murphy, boxer Michael Conlan, as well as the O'Donovan brothers.

They all got on like a house on fire and ended up going to COPPERS with Tubbers for the night!

Imagine Coppers with Ryan Tubridy!

Ryan even got a GOLD card… the chancer.

It looked like the absolute craic.

Ryan Tubridy will celebrate his 43rd birthday tomorrow, and in a Facebook live video, the crew celebrated it with him in the most bizarre way.

While talking about the season finale of the Late Late Show, the producers bring in a birthday cake, to which Ryan says, "You know my feelings about this sort of thing.”

He then goes on to sing to himself: “Happy birthday to me, happy birthday you big gigantic egotistical monster."

Throughout the 12 minute long video, Ryan messes around on a chair, talks about Eamon Dunphy being a "messer," and then says they already have plans for the Toy Show.

“We’re already planning the Toy Show for next year. It’s not even next year, it’s this year."

“We even have a theme, do you wanna know what it is?" he teased. "Nah, never gonna happen, that’s gonna be fun." (sic)

We'd say the Late Late is going to be full of laughs tonight.

Love/Hate actor John Connors has addressed the major controversy surrounding his appearance on The Late Late Show last Friday night.

John is a member of the Travelling Community and appeared on the show to discuss issues Travellers in Ireland face day-to-day.

Many who watched the show were impressed by John's heart and how passionate he was to get his point across to the nation:

But, presenter Ryan Tubridy has faced major backlash since the show, with the public taking to Twitter to voice their anger:

But, John picked up on the controversy and joined the critics, accusing Ryan of "denial of racism" on the show in a stongly-worded Facebook post:

There has been allot of strong reactions to my interview on the late late. Some positive, some racist, some didn't like…

We all know that feeling of just needing to go to the toilet at the worst moments.

In the middle of a theatre show, while driving through the middle of nowhere or at any other moment when getting to a toilet could not be more awkward.

Well, one audience member on the Late Late last night simply could not wait for the break to get up and go.

Nope, as Ryan was just about to head to a commercial break, it seems one woman was already out of her seat.

And the RTE presenter ran with it.

"Do you need to go to the loo, you do?"

"Gowan… If you gotta go…"
