Saoirse Ronan

When staff at Tropical Popical nail salon in Dublin received a call from The Ellen Show earlier this week, they started crossing their manicured fingers in hope.

Saoirse Ronan, a loyal customer, had just pre-recorded her interview with Ellen DeGeneres. Could this mean a plug on one of the world's biggest chat shows was on the way?

"I was out of the office, but the girls texted me saying they'd just had a call from LA asking for permission to use some pictures from our Instagram," salon co-owner Andrea Horan told SHEmazing! today.

"All we were thinking was, 'Imagine if they actually mentioned us by name?'"

In the end, of course, Saoirse gave the Tropical Popical ladies more than a passing mention. She couldn't stop raving about the place, in fact:

Speaking about the salon – where she was having a treatment when she heard about her Golden Globe nomination – Saoirse said, "There are palm trees everywhere and flamingos, you feel like you're in Ibiza and you're just getting your nails done in Dublin."

So have Andrea and her crew recovered from the shock yet?

"It feels like it's fake," she admitted. "The fact that she [Saoirse] was actually describing the salon was just amazing. It's gone mental since then, we've had people calling from all over."

Something tells us that Saoirse's next gold mani-pedi will be on the house.

Saoirse Ronan might be Hollywood's darling right now after her stellar performance in Brooklyn, but her name is clearly still causing everyone a few issues.

While primary school classes in Ireland are littered with Muireanns, Aoifes, Siobháns and Saoirses, the same is most definitely not true on the other side of the Atlantic, where fans are finding poor Ms. Ronan's name a bit tough to get their heads around.

But not to worry, as Ellen DeGeneres has stepped in to help out – just in time for awards season.

The best way to avoid people pronouncing your name wrong at an awards ceremony? Wear a massive sign over your red carpet gown, of course.

Saoirse appeared on Ellen's show in LA yesterday ahead of this Sunday's Golden Globes, and as a thank-you for coming on she was presented with a nifty sandwich board emblazoned with the words "Hello, My Name Is Sur-Sha."

Complete with pockets for Moet champagne and other red carpet snacks, obvz.

While on the show, it seems Saoirse also gave a shout-out to her hometown – and her favourite nail salon in Dublin's fair city, Tropical Popical.

The actress was getting her nails done at the South William St salon when she heard about her nomination, and staff there got a very exciting call yesterday from LA ahead of the Ellen interview's broadcast:

Ellen's not the first celebrity to take Saoirse and her hard-to-master name under their wing, however. Back in November Ryan Gosling included a lesson on how to pronounce the Irish moniker when presenting Saoirse with the New Hollywood Award for Brooklyn.

"Since we're all here, I thought we could just go over it," he said. "It's not 'Say-or-see' or 'Seer-say' or 'Sorcery'… It's 'Ser-sha', like inertia."

Nice. Now here's hoping there are no mistakes when Saoirse inevitably picks up the Best Actress gong on Sunday.

It's been a huge twelve months for Saoirse Ronan, and what a way to top it off.

The Irish actress, who's been tipped for an Oscar thanks to her role in Brooklyn, has just been named on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list.

It's a prestigious nod for sure – former entrants on the list include Mark Zuckerberg, Lena Dunham and fellow Irish natives Patrick and John Collison of Stripe.

Forbes noted that Saoirse's performance in Brooklyn had set "critics fluttering," listing her name in the Hollywood & Entertainment category alongside Zendaya, Alicia Vakander, Dakota Johnson and more.

Also honoured on this year's list is Daire Hickey, the co-founder of Web Summit, which this year will move to Lisbon after five hugely successful years in Dublin.

The list mentions Daire's success in "pulling in more that $2 million [€1.8m] in media partnerships for 2015 alone."

Daire started the Web Summit back in 2012 along with Paddy Cosgrave and David Kelly – but this is the first time any of the trio have been recognised on the 30 Under 30 list.

Here's to many more Irish names on the list in years to come.

Is there any limit to Saoise Ronan's talents?

She has just been nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in Brooklyn and it now turns out that the Irish actress can also sing.

In a video for W Magazine, a number of famous faces were asked to reinterpret Drake's stellar tune, Hotline Bling.

And evidently in good spirits, the Dublin born talent donned a blonde wig and belted out the tune at the top of her lungs.

While some simply read the lyrics and others attempted to act it out, we just love watching Saoirse having a good time.

Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen do a pretty hysterical reading but we also love Brie Larson giving the tune socks as well.

A number of Irish stars have been nominated for Golden Globes this awards season and we could not be more proud.

And it kind of seems fitting that Saoirse Ronan was in the country when she got news of her nomination.

The 21-year-old is up for the Best Actress award for her performance in Brooklyn and many are speculating she is a shoo in for an Oscar.

And as it turns out, Saoirse got wind of her nomination while getting her nails done in popular Dublin salon on South William Street, Tropical Popical.

And it seems that everyone in the salon got understandably pretty excited.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Saoirse admitted she was getting a lot of phone calls while she was trying to get her manicure done.

"So I answered: ‘I can’t talk to you right now! I’m getting my nails done!’ Then, my publicist was like, ‘Well, you just got nominated for a Globe, so you have to talk to us!’ I kind of squealed."

The actress said that the whole salon cheered when she told them the news.

"It’s quite a way to find out you’ve been nominated. And I’ve gotten gold painted on my nails. I’ve got golden nails right now."

We are going to take that as a good sign! Fingers crossed.

As we come to the end of the year, many of us are very aware that we are about to head into awards season.

While we don't know who is going to come out with an Oscar at the end of it, the nominees for the earlier awards such as the SAGs and the Golden Globes usually give a pretty good indication of who will at least be nominated, if not outright win.

The Golden Globes have just released their list of nominees and two Irish heavyweights are set to contend in both the Lead Actor and Lead Actress categories.

And well, we obviously think they both should win.

It's no surprise that Saoirse Ronan has been nominated for her leading role in the epic Brooklyn which has received rave reviews as well as a serious Oscar buzz since it's release last month.

And we all know that Americans love the Irish so fingers crossed.

Saoirse will be competing against Cate Blanchett who starred in Carol and Brie Larson who is the lead in Lenny Abrahamson's upcoming flick, Room.

Michael Fassbender has also been nominated for a Globe for his role as the titular character in the equally well received biopic, Steve Jobs.

Michael will be competing with the likes of Leonardo di Caprio for the Revenant and Oscar winning actor Eddie Redmayne who starred in The Danish Girl.

So yeah, stiff competition in both categories but then again, no one else has the luck of the Irish.

The Irish directed Room itself is set to do very big things this awards season. Lenny Abrahamson's highly anticipated flick is up for three awards at the Globes including best Drama, Screenplay and Best Actress.

And the luck of the Irish does not end there.

Up and coming Irish actress Caitriona Balfe has also received a nomination for her role in the American-British TV series, Outlander.

So yeah, if not one award goes to an Irish person this awards season, we will eat our caps.

Other notable nominees include Jennifer Lawrence for her role in Joy, Orange is the New Black for best television series and Amy Schumer for Trainwreck

Ryan Gosling has our back.

Having an Irish name is no easy feat if you live outside of the Emerald Isle, as anyone who has ever applied for a job or tried to order Starbucks overseas can attest to.

Luckily for any Saoirses out there, the world has finally been schooled in how to pronounce the name correctly – thanks to a Hollywood A-lister, no less.

Saoirse Ronan was the recipient of this year's New Hollywood Award for her role in Brooklyn, and in his pre-presentation speech, Ryan Gosling was sure to make one thing very clear.

"Since we're all here, I thought we could just go over it," he said

"It's not 'Say-or-see' or 'Seer-say' or 'Sorcery… It's 'Ser-sha', like inertia."

As for the surname, that was another hurdle altogether, but with Saoirse's help, the actor finally got it right.

Speaking to Image magazine recently, Saoirse said her Irishness was a huge part of her identity, even in Hollywood.

"It’s really important, it always has been, it’s a big part of who I am," she said.

"And I actually think it’ a great way to stay grounded, to remember where you’ve come from and the type of people that you come from."

As for what she misses the most about her homeland when she's away, the actress says it's "definitely Barry's Tea."

A girl after our own heart.

Irish actress Saoirse Ronan was all smiles for cameras at the Toronto International Film Festival as her latest project Brooklyn was welcomed with huge praise from critics.

The film is an adaptation of Colm Tóibin’s novel of the same name. The story of Eílis who leaves her rural hometown in Ireland for the US was adapted for film by Nick Hornby.

Speaking to Now Toronto, Saoirse was keen to downplay the acclaim she is receiving for her performance opposite Domhnall Gleeson.

She said that she was able to strongly identify with the character and her desire for growth fighting with a longing for her home:

“By the time we made the filmI’d essentially gone through Eílis’s journey.”

She explained that even now she feels a huge emotional attachment to the project and her character as she explained:

“I was right in the middle of feeling a deep, deep homesickness, missing my own mom and figuring out where I belonged in between these two places.”

Since the film’s premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year it has received much praise and exceedingly positive reviews. The New York Post commented Saoirse’s performance was “awards-calibre”.

While her work has been generating speculation of Oscar nominations, Saoirse would rather talk about the work itself than any awards or accolades.

She said that any “Oscar buzz” she hears is being taken with a pinch of salt.

She also commented that while she loved her costumes she felt a lot that had to do with the body types accepted as the norm in the 1950s.

"The shapes of the clothes are much more womanly, allowing for curves. Women were encouraged to have boobs and have a bum."

She added that she preferred “how much healthier” women’s body types were in the past.

It's official – Eddie Redmayne has been cast to play Newt Scamander in JK Rowling’s new Harry Potter prequel, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

The 33 year-old Londoner won this year’s Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal as Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything.

He will now turn his attentions to playing the ‘magizoologist’ who writes a textbook that will be studied by Harry and his friends in Hogwarts, years later.

Warner Brothers made the announcement saying that Redmayne has “emerged as one of today’s most extraordinarily talented and acclaimed actors”.

The studio said they are “thrilled to welcome him into JK Rowling’s Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance”.

With Redmayne secured in the role, now we wonder who will play his love interest.

Last year, The Guardian reported that Harry Styles was possibly being considered to star in the film. These reports haven't been confirmed as of yet so we will just have to wait and see.

According to The Wrap, there are two leading ladies in the Harry Potter spin-off. It is reported that director, David Yates, has been eyeing up Kate Upton, Saoirse Ronan, Dakota Fanning, and a few others for the two roles.

We’re sure Eddie will deliver in this role and, starring alongside any of these women in a J.K. Rowling script sounds like a recipe for success to us.

Irish actress Saoirse Ronan is now an international sensation starring in films such as The Lovely Bones, The Host and Hanna.

We love her red carpet style as it is so individual and unique – Saoirse loves abstract patterns and shapes.

This first look is very pretty but still has an edge with beautiful blue flowers against a black mesh dress.

This red dress is stunning – summery and pretty with the perfect shape.

No one could ever accuse Saoirse of having boring style and this outfit proves that.

The purple suit goes so well with Saoirse skin tone and we love the different shades of purple she used together.

The final look is a very pretty red tea dress with a carousel horse print.

The length is lovely but we aren’t too sure about the shoes that take from the delicacy of the look.

During an interview for his new movie That Awkward Moment, Zac Efron confirmed he’s in talks to appear in the next Star Wars movie.

Zac told journos: “I just went and met with them. So I don’t know. It would be cool. I love [Star Wars movies], I love them, but… who knows?”

Our very own Saoirse Ronan has also auditioned for a role and says Star Wars is “something that everyone’s gone up for,” which means nothing is certain right now.

We’ll definitely be interested to see how this plays out.
