An understandably distressed mother has now spoken out about the moment her eight-year-old son saw the Munich shooter loading his gun in a McDonald's toilet… before targeting children and opening fire on them.

The woman, named by CNN as Lauretta, said she was with her child was in a bathroom when the killer struck.

"My son saw in the toilet the man loading his gun. It was a pistol.

"That's where he loaded his weapon.

"Boom, boom, boom, I heard.

"He's killing the children. They were sitting to eat. They can't run."

She added that she heard the gunman say: "Allahu Akbar" meaning 'God is great'.

Mail Online has named 18-year-old ‘loner’ Ali Sonboly as the perpetrator who killed at least ten people in the attack.

The Iranian-German teenager – who complained that he had been bullied for seven years – “targeted innocent children and then turned his gun on himself following the massacre,” the website additionally reports.

Shockingly, Police are investigating claims that Sonboly lured his young victims to their deaths with a promise of free McDonald's food.

A fake Facebook page reportedly told youngsters to gather at the restaurant yesterday afternoon for the special offer.

Munich Police President Hubertus Andrae has confirmed that a number of adolescents were among the dead and that several children were injured.

Armed and armoured cops are still on the streets around the Olympia-Einkaufszentrum shopping mall in the centre of the German city.

ISIS-related social media accounts have been sharing reports of the attack, but reports in German newspaper Bild suggests right-wing extremists are responsible.

The shopping centre is next to the Munich Olympic stadium, where the Palestinian militant group Black September took 11 Israeli athletes hostage and eventually killed them during the 1972 Olympic Games.

The attack took place a week after a 17-year-old asylum-seeker wounded passengers on a German train in an axe rampage claimed by Islamic State.

Residents in the French capital are being urged to stay indoors in the aftermath of multiple shootings that has left, according to local media, some 60 people dead and dozens injured.

Shockingly, up to 100 people are also currently being held hostage.

Police in Paris have said that the gunmen were armed with automatic rifles and grenades when they attacked a shopping mall, a restaurant, a nightclub and a theatre in highly-organised, coordinated attacks.

Reports from the scene say that anything from 60 to 100 hostages are currently being held by two gunmen at Le Bataclan concert hall. The attackers are said to be in possession of a significant amount of explosives.

Three grenade explosions have furthermore taken place at the Stade du France while the upmarket Les Halles shopping mall has also been attacked.

Eyewitness Ben Grant told the BBC he was in a bar with his wife when he heard gunshots being fired. He added that he saw a least half a dozen bodies on the ground.

"I was told people in cars had opened fire on the bar," he explained. "There are lots of dead people. It's pretty horrific to be honest."

He added: "I heard gunshots. People dropped to the ground. We put a table over our heads to protect us.

The first incident seemingly occurred at the popular Le Petit Cambodge restaurant on trendy Rue Bichat in the 10th arrondissement – incidentally close to where the Charlie Hebdo shootings occurred in January.

Numerous emergency services are currently at that scene.

A second shooting was then reported just minutes later at a nightclub in the area, Le Bataclan.

The national soccer team had been hosting Germany in a friendly soccer match at Stade du France when three explosions took place outside the stadium. There are as yet no reports of casualties from those attacks.

The exact motive of the shootings is still unknown, but witness at the nightclub told France Info radio that the men he saw opening fire and shouted: "Allah Akbar". He reported: "The men came in and started shooting. Everyone fell to the ground. It was hell."

In January in Paris, a series of attacks that began at the Charlie Hebdo offices saw 17 people lose their lives.

US president Barack Obama this evening called the killings an attack "upon humanity".

French president Francois Hollande, who had been watching the France Vs Germany game, is holding an emergency sitting of his parliament at midnight Paris time.

Declaring a state of emergency as the French army is mobilised, he also said in a statement this evening that France's borders are being closed in response.

As further details of the killing emerge this afternoon, a shocked nation continues to mourn the late Garda Tony Golden.

The 35-year-old was gunned down in the line of duty yesterday evening in Co Louth by Adrian Crevan Mackin, a suspected IRA member who had been on bail.

Adrian Crevan Mackin afterwards turned the gun on himself

Crevan Mackin, 24, took his own life after shooting Garda Golden – who was unarmed, in uniform and responding to a 999 call alone at the time of his death.

The killer had also shot his former partner and the mother of his two children, Siobhán Phillips, 21. This afternoon, she remains in a Dublin hospital receiving life-saving treatment for her critical injuries, which include serious head wounds.

Siobhán Phillips, seen with Crevan Mackin, is in a critical condition

The Newry-native gunman was due to appear at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin at the end of this month. Following a joint Garda-PSNI operation to target dissident republicans he had been arrested and charged with IRA membership at the beginning of this year.

Ms Phillips had already reported an earlier incident involving Crevan Mackin to gardaí – and her relatives had also expressed concerns for her safety.

Meanwhile, dozen of tributes to Garda Golden – who had more than a decade of service to his name – have been made over the last 24 hours. The Garda Representative Association described him as "an Irish hero who died putting his life on the line for his community".

Calling it a tragedy, President Michael D Higgins said he wanted to express his "deepest sympathy to the family and friends" of Garda Golden.

Garda Tony Golden is survived by his wife, Nicola, and their children

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald featured on RTÉ's Morning Ireland today, telling listeners that the "death will be mourned by the entire nation, grateful for the service which he gave to it".

She continued: "Gardaí go out everyday, it takes courage to do their job, going out to face the unknown as they do on a daily basis."

And local Omeath resident Marie McGuinness told herald.ie that the father-of-three “was a gentle giant and an absolute gentleman".

The garda had been based in the now-closed Kill O'The Grange station in south county Dublin, but was deployed to Co Louth some six years ago.

He lived with his young family locally in the town of Blackrock, and originally hailed from Co Mayo.

Garda Golden leaves behind a wife of nine years, Nicola O'Sullivan, as well as two daughters and a son under the age of eight.

His parents Breege and David, who still reside in Ballina, are also said to be heart-broken and shocked by the tragedy, as are his parents-in-law, Tony and Iris.

A member of the gardaí has been shot dead in Co Louth this evening.

The gunman is also dead, while a woman has been taken to hospital in a serious condition with gun-shot wounds.

An Garda Síochána is treating the case as one of murder-suicide.

The dead garda is in his late 30s and is the father of three young children under the age of eight.

RTE reports that he left Omeath Garda Station this evening and called to a house on the Cooley Peninsula near Carlingford to deal with a domestic dispute.

He entered the property and was confronted by a man yielding a handgun. Journal.ie describes the shooter as "a well-known dissident Republican".

The area has been sealed off and the State Pathologist has now been notified.

A garda spokesman said shortly after the shooting: "Several people have been injured after an incident including a member of an Garda Siochana."

The spokesman later confirmed that the on-duty garda had died, along with one other person.

The shooting happened only a few kilometres from the location where Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe, 41, was shot and killed on January 25, 2013.

No one has ever been charged with his killing; he was the first officer to be shot dead in the line of duty since the 1996 death of father-of-five, Jerry McCabe.

The young man suspected of killing and injuring students at an Oregon college yesterday idolised the IRA, social media posts suggest.

Chris Harper-Mercer, 26, was killed by police during a shootout at one of the classrooms at the Umpqua Community College in Roseburg.

He had begun his killing spree at 10.30am local time.

Police have confirmed that ten people are dead – including the gunman – although Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum has said that 13 people were fatally wounded.

More than a dozen remain injured – some seriously.

A MySpace page belonging to Harper-Mercer contains pictures of masked gunmen and several references to the IRA.

Complete with the headline “British army could not defeat IRA,” another image shows the front page of a 2007 edition of An Phoblacht.

Meanwhile, one photograph of a group of Irishmen dressed in camouflage, wearing balaclavas and holding rifles was captioned “looking cool defending their country”.

He also wrote in a post about that he greatly admired Vester Flanagan, the gunman who killed a cameraman and presenter live on television in August.

The young man furthermore showed an interest in the Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook school shootings, having recently shared documentaries about the massacres online.

“He appears to be an angry young man who was very filled with hate,” a law enforcement official told The New York Times.

It is thought that he was a student at Umpqua at some stage: his name was listed as a production assistant for an forthcoming production of the Noel Coward play, Blithe Spirit.

Harper-Mercer was born in England but moved to the US as a youngster. He had been living with his mother just a few kilometres from the campus.

His father, Ian Mercer, said he was "shocked" and "devastated" by the news.

A total of 13 people are now dead following a mass shooting in the US state of Oregon.

Another 20 have been injured, and it is also being reported that the 20-year-old gunman has been shot dead by police.

The tragic incident took place Umpqua Community College in rural Roseburg on Thursday morning.

In the aftermath, US President Barack Obama stated that his country's gun laws will have to change.

"Somehow this has become routine," Mr Obama said at the White House.

The shooter, who was also a student at the college, had according to eye-witnesses asked people to stand and state their religions before he began firing.

Dozens of police officers and detectives remain the scene now, although authorities have ruled out a link with international terrorism.

Drawing on a message he allegedly posted on social media prior to the tragedy, CNN is reporting that the shooter picked the campus because it was a "soft target".

Social media reports also suggest that the 20 injured are all young women. One of them is critical wounded, while two others are described as being in a "serious" condition.
