When you make a drastic change to your hair it can take some getting used to, and never is this truer than when you get a shorter haircut.
There always comes a point, after the brief honeymoon period, when you regret your choice and remember how easy you had it before. To think, there was a time when you didn't wake up looking like you'd been blasted with a wind machine for two hours straight.
Don't panic though, in time you'll grow to love your new chopped 'do… Here are some easy styles to help you along!
1. The low bun
This is a really sleek look that's elegant and deceptively simple. Comb your hair and make a side parting. Gather all the hair at the back, towards the nape of your neck, and tie and a tight bun. Leave the wispy strands for a softer look, or pin them in. A classic look that's perfect for a formal event!
2. The twisted bun
Another great option if you want to look super-fancy without trying! Brush to remove knots, and gather your hair at the back. Twist the hair from the bottom, rolling it to about half way up your head. Pin the twisted hair at the back of your head. A brooch or hairpiece would look stunning with this style!
3. The messy bob
Dianna Agron has this subtly messy look down to a T. Can we have your hair please, Dianna? If you want to achieve this style at home, start by applying texturising paste to your hair when it's just been towel-dried. Then blowdry – if your hair is naturally straight don't use a brush when drying. When dry, straighten in 2-inch segments, flipping the hair out at the end. If you have a fringe, sweep it to the side.
4. The faux updo
Very Imedla May! This look is an easy way to add volume to short hair. Start with dry hair and spray some dry shampoo for grip and volume. Tease you hair at the crown, smooth it over with a comb and pin it at the back of your head, ensuring there's lots of volume. Then pin the sides of your hair back so they blend with the back. PIn any extra stands too so there's no hair falling onto your neck. You can leave this look as it is, or add a silk scarf like this lady for extra sass!
