Brave bikini snap of beauty queen sets internet on fire!
A diabetic beauty queen, who wore an insulin pump attached to her bikini in the swimsuit round, has became a hero after the pageant snaps went viral.
Sierra Sandison said being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2012 had “turn my life upside down”.
But the 20-year-old soon realised she couldn’t let her condition stop her from reaching for the stars!
Not only did she take the crown of Miss Idaho, but she’s also become a role model and started a social media trend.
After the images went viral, other diabetics began tweeting their own pictures with the hashtag #showmeyourpump.
Writing on her Facebook page, Sierra said, “Honestly, it is terrifying walking out on stage in a swimsuit, let alone attached to a medical device. My message to everyone, diabetic or not, is that we all have something that doesn’t ‘measure up’ to the beauty standards set by the media – and that is okay! It does not make you any less beautiful.”
Since then, thousands of people from around the world have posted their own pictures to social media, causing the hashtag to trend on Twitter.
Sierra will now go on to compete in Miss America, supporting Possibilities for Disabilities.
What an inspiration!
