Whitney Houston’s family are said to be absolutely furious over a movie about her life.
The late superstar’s loved ones are livid that the Angela Basset-directed film depicting Whitney’s rocky relationship with her ex-husband Bobby Brown is being planned as a TV movie because they feel she deserves so much more.
Whitney’s sister Pat Houston said, ”Whitney is certainly worthy of more than a television movie. If Whitney were here today, this would not be happening.”
The singer’s family has reportedly already told Lifetime – the makers of the movie – that they are NOT happy and are said to be threatening a lawsuit if the network refuses to cancel production.
Whitney’s family are instead planning their own big screen movie in the style of Michael Jackson’s This Is It, which they feel would be a more fitting tribute to the musical icon.
Meanwhile, the Lifetime movie is set for release in 2015 and will see Oscar-nominated actress Angela, who starred opposite Whitney in Waiting to Exhale, make her directorial début.
Angela Bassett will make her directorial début with a movie about Whitney Houston’s life.
The actress is “beyond excited” to direct the singer’s biography – who tragically died in a Beverly Hill’s hotel room in 2012.
Television network Lifetime is creating the movie on the I Will Always Love You singer’s life with ex-husband Bobby Brown and Angela said she ‘fascinated’ by their relationship.
“I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story,” the Oscar-nominated actress said.
“Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world,” she added.
The movie’s working title is Whitney Houston and the plot will centre on the iconic singer’s relationship with Bobby, from their first date to the very end of their marriage.
Whitney Houston the film is slated to première early next year.

Frightening news this morning as it is revealed that Avril Lavigne’s ex husband, Deryck Whibley was hospitalised for over a month due to excess drinking.
The Sum 41 singer wrote on his website that his liver and kidneys had collapsed due to all the years of hard drinking he had been doing: “I was drinking hard every day … I then collapsed to the ground unconscious.”
Deryck (34) was sedated for a week in the hospital following his collapse.
The singer now says he wants to share his experience with his fans to show the dangers of drinking too much alcohol: “I’m not preaching or anything but just drink responsibly. I didn’t and look where it got me.”
He was also told by doctors that if he had one more drink, he could die: “If I have one drink, the doc’s say I will die.”
Deryck posted some frightening pictures of himself in the hospital so show the perils of drinking too much alcohol.
Deryck was married to Avril Lavigne in 2006 but the pair parted ways in 2009 with a divorce finalised in 2010. Avril is now married to Nickelback singer, Chad Kroeger.

Lily Allen has revealed the very understandable reason she turned down a role in HBO’s hit show, Game of Thrones.
The singer was offered the role of Yara Greyjoy, sister of Theon Greyjoy.
Theon is played by Alfie Allen, Lily’s little brother, who she wrote the song Alfie about.
You may wonder why Lily would turn down the role of playing the on screen sister to her real life brother?
Well, because of the incest. Er, what?!
In a scene between Yara and Theon, Theon has a somewhat intimate moment with his sister.
Lily said: “I felt uncomfortable because I would have had to go on a horse and he would have touched me up and shit. Once they told me what was entailed, I said no thanks.”
We don’t blame you , Lily.
US chat show host slams Beyoncé.
Cher Lloyd had a bit of an awkward moment on a red carpet in the US recently.
The singer, who rose to fame on the UK X Factor, was walking a red carpet in America when her publicist was spotted behind her holding up a sign with her name on it so waiting photographers and interviewers would know who she was!
Eek, perhaps her quest to break the US music market isn’t going so well after all.
It was also recently announced that the star had married her long term love, Craig Monk, in a private ceremony recently.
Lorde may only be 17 years-old, but that does’t stop magazines from altering her appearance!
According to the singer, Canada’s Fashion magazine may have altered her nose.
Lorde said: “apart from the fact that i’m pretty sure this magazine gave me a new nose (:|), i really like this photo”.
The shot is of course, stunning, and the last thing Lorde needs is an altered nose, especially at 17!
Hopefully it’s just the angle and the magazine did not feel the need to change her nose.
It doesn’t look as if Lily Allen’s husband, Sam Cooper, is too impressed by his wife’s onstage antics.
The singer revealed that he asked her to “tone it down” now that she is a mum.
Talking about the request, Lily said: “He’s told me to tone it down now I’m a mum. On my last tour, when I sang ‘Not Fair’, I used to act out fellatio using my microphone … Recently, I have been rehearsing for this new tour and Sam said, ‘You’re not doing that again are you?’, I said not if he didn’t want me to. And he said no as he didn’t think it was good for the kids.
Lily gave birth to daughter, Ethel in 2011 and Marnie in 2013.
