Foundation is the key to a great complexion and flawless looking skin…and most of us are getting it wrong..

Follow our 10 Commandments of Foundation and you’ll always be ready for your close-up.

  1. Make sure your skin is cleansed and exfoliated.
  2. Only use foundations that complement your skin. Oil-free for oily skin, hydrating formulas for dry skin and hypoallergenic for those who are sensitive.
  3. Check shades on your jawline not on your hand. Double-check in natural light before making your decision.
  4. Don’t stick to the usual. As the seasons change so too should your foundation.
  5. Smooth your face with primer. A lavender-based one will brighten dull skin while a green-based one will cover up redness.
  6. Use concealer to hide any imperfections but make sure you blend properly.
  7. Lightly pat the foundation onto your face. Don’t forget to blend around your ears.
  8. Learn the art of contouring. You can define your face by creating shadows with an angled powder brush.
  9. Bronzer can give you a healthy glow. Sweep small amounts wherever the sun would naturally touch.
  10. Don’t forget your highlighter. This will add instant soft lighting where needed.

If you long to have Saoirse Ronan’s perfect porcelain skin, you are not alone.

According to a survey conducted by Vaseline, the Hannah star has been voted as having the most coveted skin by Irish ladies.

While the Oscar-nominated star won 28% of the votes, the new face of Newbridge Silverware, Amy Huberman, wasn’t too far behind her. Brian O’Driscoll’s wife only missed out on the top spot by 2%. Ouch.

Bray born beauty Laura Whitmore also featured in the poll, as did Georgia Salpa, Grainne Seoige and Michelle Doherty. Irish Olympic boxer Katie Taylor also got a mention – we love her so this makes us very happy!

Brand Manager for Vaseline, Sunayna Butt, says: “Conducting this research gives us a clear, concise idea of the Irish woman and what she expects from her beauty products. With this information, we can understand what we need to deliver on.”
