As we all know, trends come and go, but there's something about Irish fashion that's changing at the moment – and for the better.

With influences coming straight from the Irish music scene, we look at the style of Róisín O, Ireland's latest girl crush.

We're getting way more comfortable with ourselves, and that means with our clothing choices too, and we can thank gals like Róisín for it:

A few years ago, getting unusual piercings were a bit of a taboo (our Irish mammies wouldn't be too happy), but taking example from Róisin, they're something that have become a total norm and a style statement these days. If you like it and want it, go for it girl.

Celebrities have always been changing and chopping their hair throughout the years, and it's safe to say us Irish have been a bit late to the game sometimes. But, not anymore. We relish with different looks, cuts and colours, and strive to be a bit different. Go us.

Gone are the days of the super girly girl (goodbye Paris Hilton circa 2009). Now, us Irish gals like a bit more rock'n'roll and we always grunge up our look. Whether it's adding a big statement belt, or rockin' black dress like Róisín here, we're loving it.

Saying that though, as much as we like to be comfy and original, we also LOVE to add a bit of glamour to our outfits sometimes. Whether you're heading on a night out and want to sparkle as bright as the discoball, or you simply just feel like adding some glitz to your shopping-day look, in the words of Fergie, we are G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S yeeeaaah.

If there's one thing we've conquered in fashion, it's accessories. Rocking some deadly shades, or simply adding a great bag like Róisín here, can totally change up any look and make it ten times better. We got it, girls.

Summer can be tricky in Ireland especially if you have a big event coming up.

You never know if it will be bright and sunny or if you'll be running for cover from a shower of hailstones.

Given this classic national dilemma, Irish designer, Helen McAlinden has us totally covered, and we are PUMPED!

Her new SS16 collection boasts form-fitting dresses, sexy jumpsuits, cool and casual skirts as well as really breathable cover-ups (In case the sun and rain hit at the same time – cheers, Ireland!)

Helen is celebrating her 15th year in Irish Fashion, and it clearly stands to her as she totally understand exactly what us cailíní want. 

Her overall influence for this season is American 30s, 40s, and 50s flare – pairing nautical prints with simple structured dresses that will suit any body type.

Her designs will nip you in at the waist -creating a perfect hourglass shape – all the while concealing any lumps and bumps you may want to hide (Damn that extra slice of chocolate cake).

YouTube is absolutely flooded with hair tutorials and make-up demos, and yet very few of us manage to keep up with all the latest tips, tricks and hacks on the beauty scene.

We’ve definitely heard of the latest trend and we might have actually seen it on someone in the flesh (the future is now, ladies), but when it comes to our own regime, a lot of us play it safe and stick to the old reliables in our make-up bag.

While it’s cool to find a style that suits and work it to the max, many of us tend to make the same make-up mistakes and skin care slip-ups on a daily basis which is why broadening your horizons on the cosmetic front is always a worthwhile exercise.

Here are just five times (this week) that we've failed on the beauty front.

1. The nitty-gritty

You could have splurged on the most expensive foundation on the market, but if your skin care routine isn’t up to scratch, you’re cheating yourself out of a flawless complexion.

Cleansing and toning are undoubtedly two of the more tedious aspects of our beauty routine, and probably why most of us tend to skimp on it whenever we can.

If you’ve been a face-wipe-and-run kind of girl for as long as you can remember, it’s definitely time to school yourself on your skin type and tone in order to make the best of it.

2. Hair care hassle

For many of us, drying, straightening and curling has become as regular a morning habit as brushing our teeth, but unfortunately this daily routine leaves our locks open to a world of trauma.

A lot of us are unsure how to best heat-style our hair without subjecting it to serious damage which is why many of us spend more time than we’d like to admit seeking and destroying split ends.

Learning how to style your hair without destroying it is the holy grail of hair care and something a lot of us need to learn sooner rather than later!

3. Make up ‘mares

You may have a foundation or blusher which you wouldn’t give up on pain of death, but as our look evolves over time, it’s important to keep on top of the cosmetic game and not rely on the same shades and styles for years.

Choosing the correct products and establishing the most flattering colours for you is what sets you apart from everyone else, and yet some of us still rock a product which should have been left behind years ago.

If you’ve found yourself frantically scrubbing a tidemark out of your jawline at some stage this week, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about!

4. Nailing it

Us Irish girls are absolutely MAD for Shellac and Geleration, and while they look fantastic at the time, it’s important to treat your nails well between treatments.

Giving your nails time to breathe, conditioning your cuticles and tending to your talons isn’t exactly something we’re taught in school, but it is something every girl should have a handle on.

Seeing your nails break and flake is about as uplifting as an evening watching The Antiques Roadshow.

5. Sun care slip-up

Read the lifestyle bio of any beauty industry heavy-hitter and they’ll insist that sun cream is one of the most important products in their beauty bag.

While some things that happen on holiday should remain on holiday, protecting your skin from the sun is not one of them, girls.

Yes, there are more wet days than any other in this country, but that doesn’t mean you’re immune from the sun’s rays, so schooling yourself on the damage which can be done when you scrimp on protection is an absolute must.

When you think of Ladies Day at the races, what exactly comes to mind?

Hats big enough to camp under, ornate clutch bags that fit nothing but a lip gloss and sky-high heels made only for a car-to-bar totter? Oh yeah girls, us too.

While the tradition is longstanding and much-loved, there’s no doubt that it was definitely in need of a good shake-up which is why we’re PUMPED that Naas Racecourse have launched an alternative Ladies Day this year!

Taking place at the boutique racecourse on Sunday May 29th, us ladies have been told to make the most of the Fresh, Fun and Vibrant theme by ditching the old rules and showcasing our individuality, fun and flair.

Model, Daniella Moyles, and Irish fashion and accessories designer, Emma Manley, will be stepping up to the plate to judge on the day, and the winner of the best dressed will be awarded with a VIP Spa Stay for four in the Westgrove Hotel and a €1,000 shopping spree in the Whitewater Shopping Centre.

Runners-up on the day will enjoy spa packages and VIP race days at Naas Racecourse while a special prize will be awarded to a finalist who flew the flag for Ireland by wearing an Irish design on the day.  

Not too shabby, right?!

Showcasing Ireland's young talent in fashion, we look forward to this show every year and this year saw trends such as structured lines, blurred gender and gothic romance take to the cat walk.

We chatted to the winner, Aideen Gaynor about the inspiration behind her collection and the vision she saw for this day.

If you're in the market for a new hairdryer and have a few hundred euro to spare, then you may be one of the first people to get your hands on Dyson's latest creation.

That's right; the lads behind the slicker-than-slick vacuum cleaner have turned their attention to the beauty industry, and are only dying to make our lives that much easier with their innovative new design.

Explaining their foray into the whole new world of haircare, the company's founder, James Dyson, said: "Hair dryers can be heavy, inefficient and make a racket. By looking at them further we realised that they can also cause extreme heat damage to hair."

"I challenged Dyson engineers to really understand the science of hair and develop our version of a hair dryer, which we think solves these problems," he added.

According to The Independent, the engineers have, after four years development, come up with a lightweight design which guarantees more control, less noise and also prevents common problems like overheating.

The Supersonic is set to hit the market in the UK this June and will set you back a cool £299.

We don't know about you, but we've always adhered to the cardinal rule of fashion; no socks or tights with open-toe shoes.

Even when we were running around like Avril Lavigne wannabes or rocking head-to-toe velour, we knew to steer clear of THAT particular fashion fail, but it looks like one fashion brand from Japan are determined we embrace it.

Hooking us in with their lazy girl angle, the brand have come up with nude-coloured tights which boast…wait for it…ten pre-painted toenails for those days when you simply don't have the time to root out the toe-seperaters.

The tights come in a variety of designs so you can match your mood to your toenails…as every girl about town tends to do, right? Right.

We (kinda) see the benefits especially when it rarely gets warm enough to actual bare your legs in this country, but the thoughts of sliding each toe into a separate section seriously makes us cringe.

So, we had a total lightbulb moment regarding the ‘boyfriend look’ recently.

After spending far too much time searching the womenswear collections in an effort to dress like men (the irony is not lost on us, we assure you), we realised that there was a very simple solution staring us right in the face: wear men’s clothing.

The androgynous look can be a tough one to pull off – on a bad day we can be left looking like the world’s worst Charlie Chaplin tribute act – but with the right pieces and some key styling tips, you can really work that ‘I-just-threw-on-my-fella’s-jumper-and-look-unreal’ vibe.
