While it may, quite literally, be snowing outside, Penneys is clearly looking to the future.

The bargain high street brand has just launched an absolute bikini bonanza, and it's making us dream of far-off locations and vacations

Mesh panel bikini top €7.00, and bottoms €5.00 each

The latest beachwear drop is hitting Penneys this month, and some of the looks are giving us major vacation inspiration.

From floral swimsuits to Kylie Jenner inspired strappy sets, we're already planning our holidays around where we can wear these dreamy two-pieces.

Deep V Swimsuits €10.00 each

We especially love the sexy strap detail on both of these high-cut swimsuits.

While black may be super-slimming, we also adore the loud, tropical print on the other suit, perfect for a pool party.

Turquoise bikini top €7.00, and €5.00, Copper bikini top €9.00, Copper bikini bottoms €5.00

These panelled bikinis are giving us major Triangl vibes, and we can't wait to get our hands on them!

Burgundy bikini  top €5.00, and bottoms €3.00, Pastel pink bikini top €2.50, and bottoms €2.50

These simple, mix-and-match bikinis are perfect to stock up on before a summer away.

The flattering shapes and subtle hues mean that they will still be in style next summer, if you really want to get some bang for your buck.

Blue and pink bikini top €5.00, and bottoms €3.00, Triangle top €5.00, and bottoms €3.00

So while the sun may not have quite reached Ireland yet (that's an understatement),  we might have to stock up on a few of our favourite sets before they sell out.

We'll be the bikini-laden one in the queue, so see you there.

We've been picking up on a few major trends for Spring/Summer, and a print that keeps popping up is gingham.

Once the exclusive territory of picnic blankets and jam jar lids, the quaint print has had a modern makeover, causing it to creep into the S/S collections of some of our favourite high street stores.

Top €13.00, Crop top €13.00, both Penneys

The cousin of plaid, the picnic-perfect print was seen on the runways at House of Holland, Prada and Peter Jensen, so it's not surprising that everyone from River Island to Penneys has picked up on the trend.

We love both of these gingham tops from Penneys, and we can see them perfectly pairing with some slouchy mom jeans and platform runners for summer.

Top  €24.99, Trousers €29.99 both New Look

New Look is also getting in on the look, creating pieces that will incorporate seamlessly into a stylish work wardrobe.

This gingham blouse also features embroidery detailing, checking off another major trend box.

Playsuit €45.00, Flats €37.00, both River Island

Keeping things super edgy, this River Island playsuit would look killer when paired with a leather biker jacket and boots during festival season, and with Forbidden Fruit just around the corner, there is no harm in planning your outfits early.

These metallic flats are giving us major Miu Miu vibes.

The studded strap and silver finish toughen up the gingham ribbon tie in the best possible way.

Slip dress €28.00, Ruffled dress €35.00, both Pretty Little Thing

Pretty Little Thing currently has the monopoly on gorgeous gingham dresses.

This dainty little slip would look divine with a T-shirt underneath, 90s style, or give it a more modern take by layering it under an oversized, sheer T-shirt dress.

And the this ruffed midi? We're getting major "VIP section at Coachella" feels from this one.

Good news for anyone who is hoping to do a J-1 this year.

The U.S embassy has confirmed that an additional 2,600 J-1 visas will be available for Irish students for summer 2017.

So if visiting the States has been a dream of yours, there's no time like the present, as there are now 7,000 work and travel slots available.

Pic: Kinder Travel Guide

“The U.S. Embassy in Dublin is fully committed to the success of the J-1 programmes in Ireland," reads a statement from the embassy.

“In addition to the popular Summer Work and Travel program, Irish students can participate in the Camp Counsellor, Au Pair, and Intern programmes."

“The Embassy is working with Irish government representatives as well as U.S. and Irish program implementers to ensure Irish students continue to benefit from the J-1 program."

The additional visas come after fears in November that the J-1 visa would be abolished under President Donald Trump.

While students used to have a three week window in which to find work upon arriving in the U.S, restrictions were tightened last year, and now a job placement must be secured before they can travel.

The additional J-1 visas only apply to the four month long summer work programmes, and not to the 12 month graduate visa.

Tulle was all over the S/S 2017 runways, at high fashion houses like Dior and Dries Van Noten.

The frothy fabric is perfect for the brighter months, adding a hint of girly glam to even the most drab of outfits.

While the fabric is usually reserved for whimsical weddings and those of a ballet dancing disposition, Spring/Summer is the perfect excuse to get experimental with your look, and a tulle skirt is an easy way to mix things up.

This Littlewoods piece is a total steal for €40, and ticks all the boxes when it comes to styling a tulle skirt.

The tea length keeps it out of tutu territory and the dusty pink shade is the perfect nod to the soft, pastel shades of spring.

This look needs toughening up, so team with a t-shirt, boots and embroidered leather jacket for daytime, or really clash the textures with some fishnet tights and a boyfriend coat.

This gorgeous style is ideal if you're sick of body con skirts and jeans on a night out.

Add a leather look bralette or backless bodysuit and heels like model Dani Whittaker for a fresh, super glamorous night time look.

Or, opt for a portion of Jennifer Lawrence's new season style straight from the Dior runway and match it with an embellished jumper and high heeled boots.

If you ever dreamed of feeling like a princess as a kid, this spring stlke choice will seriously appeal to your inner child.

Just keep it grown up with edgy accessories and a hint of leather to avoid looking like a children's party extra.

While other countries are guaranteed a consistent supply of Vitamin D during the summer months, those of us in Ireland have to wait with fingers crossed for the sun to reveal itself.

So we’re sure you’ll be delighted to hear that this weekend we’re in for some sun.

According to the Independent, Ireland’s temperature will begin to rise today with those in the sunny South East benefitting the most.

Between Sunday and Tuesday temperatures in the west of the country are expected to reach 25 degrees, while the rest of us should be prepared for 21 degrees.

Unfortunately you’ll have to make the most of the weekend sunshine as Mr Sun will be dashing off late on Tuesday, only to be replaced by a thunderstorm.  From there temperatures will drop to around 10 degrees.

Well, you can’t accuse an Irish summer of being boring!

It's official: the nation is basking in glorious sunshine the likes of which have not been seen in a decade-and-a-half.

And for a country that digs out sandals and shorts as soon as the thermostat reaches 18C, we reckon the Emerald Isle will positively lose the run of itself tomorrow.

That's because – as now confirmed by RTÉ's Joanna Donnelly – things are about to get yer-on-yer-hollliers-in-Spain hot.

Taking to Twitter, the meteorologist said today: "In 14 years I've never seen a 30 on a chart."

Also including a snap of a roasting-looking Ireland: "We're going to 28 tomorrow," referring to Met Éireann's Dublin HQ.

It's a tweet that has proven immensely popular – notching up some 625 retweets and 470 likes.

Furthermore, Joanna's twitter handle has been flooded with snaps of car dashboards already displaying the magic 30C+ symbol.

Understandably, the hashtag #heatwave is already trending strongly in Ireland.

Plain old vanilla might be the default option when it comes to ice cream, but it seems this summer’s coolest treat trend has gone to the dark side for inspiration.

In between the endless stream of melting chocolate balls, icy Frappuccinos and rainbow coloured doughnuts which have come to dominate Instagram’s food porn network, you may have noticed a very unusual looking iced dessert known as black ice cream.

Pictures tagged #blackicecream show scooped and whipped ice creams served in a variety of ways, all of which are black in colour and seem to be popping up around the world.

The Tech Times has reported that Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream shop in New York is one vendor playing its role in the charcoal-coloured trend.

According to the site, Morgenstern’s black ice cream is Black Coconut Ash flavour which combines dark chocolate ice cream, squid-ink based food dye and a new flavour made from the “charred and processed remains of a coconut shell”.

And as if having black ice cream isn’t cool enough, it has been suggested that the activated charcoal in the recipe can help detox the body so you could say black ice cream is actually good for you.

The word ‘summer’ conjures up images of beautiful beaches, warm sunshine and glowing tans, but unfortunately us Irish are denied all three by our unpredictable weather and pasty complexions.

But not to worry – Catrice Cosmetics’ latest collection is packed full of golden tones and catwalk-inspired hues to help us look that bit warmer than we feel.

Since their Spring Summer ’16 range starts at under a fiver and is available in pharmacies and Penneys throughout the country, there’s no excuse to be left feeling pasty this summer.

Prime and Fine Beautifying Primer – €4.95:

This light-reflecting primer contains just the right amount of soft shimmer to brighten up the skin without making it look shiny.  Its innovative formula contains the ultra-hydrating Vitamin E to help keep skin moisturised.  And because it sets with a fresh dewy finish it can be worn with foundation or all on its own.

Sun Glow Mineral Bronzing Powder – €5.50:

This baked bronzing powder is perfect for adding warmth to fair complexions and just like the primer it also contains fine light reflecting particles.  The easy-blend formula can be brushed lightly onto the cheeks for a healthy summer glow or applied more precisely to help sculpt the face for a more glamorous look.

Liquid Metal Eyeshadow – €4.50:

Catrices’ Liquid Metal Eyeshadow range is highly pigmented, long lasting and boasts a unique 3D embossed effect.  Shades ‘Gold n Roses’ and ‘Satina Van Der Wooden’ can be used to add shimmer to any summer look.

Long Lasting Eye Pencil Waterproof – €2.60:

For a more striking metallic look, this new gold eyeliner would be your product of choice.  Its highly pigmented formula and smooth texture allow for accurate application, while its waterproof status means it is perfect for pool-side beauty.

Ultimate Nail Laquer – €2.95:

No golden goddess look would be complete without metallic-toned nails and Catrices’ Ultimate Nail Lacquer Collection has the perfect shade for just that.  Try ‘Go For Gold’ for a deep metallic finish, or pick one of ten shades from the Luxury Nudes (€3.30) set for a softer more shimmery finish.

Catrice Cosmetics are available at Penneys and in pharmacies nationwide.
