surrogacy

The news has recently hit that rapper Kanye West is expecting his fourth child with Kim Kardashian West via surrogate, and now it appears that the 40-year-old has confirmed the news.

When photographers congratulated West on the baby news and wished him well on his future arrival, Kanye responded; "Thanks, bro."

One year on from welcoming their daughter, Chicago West, though this time they are opting to use a different surrogate.

Allegedly the famous pair will be having a baby boy, but this may not be the final addition to the Kardashian clan, as Kanye apparently wants SEVEN children.

In an October episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim revealed to Larsa Pippen in that her husband was stuck at that number.

However, reality television star spoke to ELLE in 2018 about her torn emotions over baby number four;

"I dunno," she commented. "My home and my heart feel really full right now, in the best way." She then made it absolutely clear that four kids would be more than enough for her, with her lack of time.

She added; "Seven kids is crazy. I could never, especially in like the world we live in."

"I've been kinda hesitant about having more kids because it literally keeps me up at night, thinking about how my kids will survive in a crazy world like this," she continued.

The famous couple have two other children; North West and Saint West.

Kim Kardashian was allegedly advised not to have any more natural pregnancies by doctors after two complicated births.

Another birth could prove life-threatening for Kim, after she suffered from placenta accreta during her first two baby deliveries.

The 38-year-old said of her surrogate for Chicago: ‘Having a gestational carrier is definitely different, but anyone who says or thinks it’s the easy way out is completely wrong."

"People assume it’s better because you don’t have to deal with the physical changes, pain or complications with delivery, but for me it was so hard to not carry my own child, especially after I carried North and Saint."

Congratulations to the Kardashians on the baby news, we can't wait to hear what name they give their new little boy.

They're clearly excited to have a family of four, and surrogacy has been hugely heartwarming experience for them.

Amid shutdowns in commercial surrogacy programmes in some of Europe’s most notable destinations, parents from abroad are turning their hopeful eyes to Ukraine. Would you?

While it’s rarely the first choice of any hopeful family, surrogacy can sometimes be the last viable option available to couples in need.

While contemporary medicine has be able to address a myriad of infertility issues, there are still some that are insurmountable. Leaving parents in need with few options.

Surrogacy is a hot debate in the media right now and has been for at least the last decade. Few countries have ideal legislation concerning the practice while others outright ban it.

Countries that were prominent for commercial surrogacy practices, such as India, Thailand, and Nepal, have closed extra national programmes due to reports of exploitation.

So where does that leave parents hoping to secure the future of their families? “Most of our clients are heartbroken when they come to us,” a spokesperson for a prominent multinational surrogacy company explains.

“Surrogacy is rarely anyone’s first choice, and the faith that the process requires is monumental.”

Dr. Rashmed Tounsend, has been working with the Valencia based company Ilaya since it’s advent in 2011. Ilaya services Ukraine surrogacy programmes but operates out of Spain.

“I think that most couples would prefer to work with a surrogate that was local to their home country, but due to legislation and cost, that option is largely unavailable to them,” Tounsend tells us.

Ukraine has seen a surge in their surrogacy numbers since larger countries have been forced to ban the practice, but booming business hasn’t been enough to curb some couples concerns about exploitation and treatment of surrogate mothers.

Following the terrifying reports of the exploitative practices of surrogacy industry leaders, many intended parents hesitate to look abroad for their possible options. However, many are left with no choice.

With the rising costs of surrogacy programmes at home, or strict laws that don’t allow for a reliable avenue to pursue such procedures, families aren’t given many options.

The average cost for a surrogacy program in the US starts at around $90,000. Prices continue to rise should patients require multiple IVF attempts or run into other complications.

And that’s only if you live in a state where surrogacy is legal. “Couples from states that do not allow for surrogacy can see an increase in their total costs due to travel arrangements and necessities.” Tounsend reminds us.

For families from such countries as the UK or Australia, travelling to a country like the U.S. for surrogacy is completely out of the question, due to financial constraints.

This leaves these families searching for options that are closer and much less costly. “Ukraine then becomes a much more viable option, because it’s located in mainland Europe, so no specialised visas are required for travel.” Tounsend says.

Flights from the UK to mainland Europe can be obtained at a fraction of the cost of those to the US.

Surrogacy: The Only Choice for Some

Surrogacy in the Ukraine has been strictly regulated since 2000. Laws outlining the rights of intended parents, as well as setting parameters for who is eligible to become a surrogate, were set in place.

Largely due to this legislation, as well as having high standards for medical care, saw Ukraine sweeping up many families who were looking to secure a surrogate outside of their home country. However, these laws can be difficult to regulate properly.

There have been reports for surrogate mothers receiving less than ideal medical care, and being victims of obvious malpractice. One report mentions mothers being treated “like cattle” and mocked by doctors.

While officials stress that this is not the norm, whispers of malpractice and embryo swapping have also been heard, although are still unfounded as of yet.

While it may not be an easy choice to make for many couples, it is one that has provided positive results for many.

Health experts in Ukraine estimate that there are over 2,500 babies born to surrogates each year in their country, which makes them familiar with the practice.

They also offer novel medical techniques and incentives that are not seen in other countries, like an unlimited number of IVF attempts, and no age restrictions regarding gamete supplication from intended parents.

Surrogate mothers that are found eligible are set to earn well above what would be expected from a Ukrainian minimum wage.

However, commercial surrogacy abroad is still not risk free, and hopeful parents are urged to do thorough research before choosing a clinic to continue the procedure with.

Which continues to make the choice a difficult one for families who worry about more than just the financial costs of surrogacy.

“Ukraine surrogacy is just one of the options that we offer prospective parents. There are other avenues available to some couples.

While it’s not the first choice for many, it’s a choice that our clients are extremely satisfied with in the end. Ultimately, our goal is to provide safety and happiness to our clients and our surrogate mothers.

Whatever avenue is the best for all parties involved, is the one we pursue.” Tounsend says.

Congrats are in order for one of our fave Nineties popstars today, as H from Steps has become a first-time dad.

H, who these days goes by his full name of Ian H Watkins, welcomed twin sons in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The new arrivals were born via a surrogate, with Ian and his partner Craig taking to social media to share their delight – and a first picture.

"We are DADS! We are totally & utterly in Love! #Twins" Ian wrote on Twitter, alongside a snap of two hospital bracelets labelled "Baby 'A' Boy" and "Baby 'B' Boy."

A, B, C and H? Here's hoping the new dads come up with something a little more lengthy than that when deciding their sons' official first names.

The couple first revealed their happy baby news back in December, via an animated YouTube video.

After their first surrogate tragically suffered a miscarriage back in 2012, it's no surprise Ian and Craig waited until the pregnancy was six months along this time around.

Speaking shortly after the miscarriage happened four years ago, Ian said the news had been a huge blow to him and Craig.

"We were thinking of names, and we even planned our first Christmas as a family. We were both ready to be dads, " he told The People.

Huge congrats to Ian and Craig on their very happy ending. We can't wait to see a first family photo…

After news of her sons' arrivals went public over the weekend, newlywed Georgia took to social media to confirm it.

"Delighted with the arrival of twin boys, the most special, perfect little babies and we are so in love," she wrote.

"They are NOT adopted… I won’t be posting any photos of them on social media as I’d like to keep them private."

Georgia has made no secret of her desire to start a family, admitting last year that it was certainly on the horizon for herself and Joe.

"In the future, I really want to have children. Of course it’s something I think about. I think most girls think about babies.

"Kids are something I definitely want."

In the weeks following the birth of her new sons, Georgia was noticeably quieter on social media  – leading fans to speculate if she might be keeping something under wraps.

Recent reports have circulated that Beyonce and Jay Z are struggling to get pregnant a second time round.

Rumours have even suggested that the couple may be having their second child through a surrogate. According to In Touch magazine, Bey and Jay have decided to use a surrogate as a safer option. A source revealed that “The surrogate is still in the early stages of the pregnancy, so they have yet to announce it to the public.”

With fertility issues taking their toll, it looks as if Beyonce is feeling a certain sense of animosity towards Kim Kardashian, who has recently revealed that she is pregnant with a boy.

Speaking to HollywoodLife.com, an insider revealed that “Unfortunately Bey and Jay have struggled to get pregnant this time around. They are seeing their doctor and doing everything they can to have a baby.”

The source continued, “Beyonce is actually jealous that Kim got pregnant and she hasn’t.” Although the 33-year-old apparently isn’t holding a grudge. “She’s happy for Kim but also a little envious,” the insider admitted.

And certainly, Kim and Kanye have had their own struggles: namely Kim's difficulties in becoming pregnant for a second time. Indeed, Kim was very open about her fertility issues on this season of KUWTK and revealed how she turned to IVF treatments in order to become pregnant.

It has also recently come to light that Kimye only had male embryos implanted to ensure the birth of a baby boy. According to reports both Kim and Kanye wanted a brother for Nori, while Kanye especially wanted a son so he could have an “heir”.
