The countdown is officially on for Christmas, and along with gift-buying and party-planning, many Irish women are feeling overwhelmed by something else entirely.

Three in four Irish women admit they feel under pressure to look their best during the festive period, and over half of us (51%) say we’re worried about the ageing process.

Indeed, a shocking eight in ten (86%) of women said they’d consider having non-invasive cosmetic procedures like fillers, laser treatments and anti-wrinkle injections to help counteract the signs of ageing.

The results come as part of SHEmazing’s! Cosmetic Beauty research, which saw 994 women give their opinions on ageing, cosmetic procedures and the need to live up to a social media ideal of beauty.

Along with increased pressure from all sides to look our best, it seems cosmetic work – both surgical and non-surgical – is no longer just for the celebrity elite.

For many of us, the thought of getting a cosmetic procedure might be a long way off, but that’s certainly not the case for the 16% of participants who say they’ve already undergone one, be it surgical or non-surgical.

Of those, a whopping 18% made like the Kardashian-Jenner sisters and had their first procedure before the age of 20, while the majority (51%) chose to have work done in their 20s.

"The cosmetic beauty industry in Ireland is experiencing rapid growth. In the past year alone, Ireland has seen the rise in convenient lunchtime procedures such as derma and lip fillers," says SHEmazing!’s Susan Vickers.

And if you’re looking for Christmas present ideas, you might be in luck, as 54% of women surveyed said they be more than happy to receive a voucher for a cosmetic procedure as a festive gift.

Of course, cosmetic procedures aren’t the only answer when it comes to looking our best – and over half of us count regular exercise as a key way to prevent signs of ageing.

As for other lifestyle changes, 38% of us do our best to get enough shut-eye, and 54% try to maintain a healthy diet.

Speaking about the "eye-opening" results, Susan said the rise of social media could be to blame for women’s unrealistic ideals of beauty.

"The rise in digital media and social networking platforms has fuelled young people’s obsession with aesthetics," she said, citing Instagram and Snapchat as two examples.

One urban legend has been debunked with regards to our activity in the bedroom.

While it has been long believed that men are the ones who just can’t wait to get it on, Kindara a fertility app asked their female users how they really felt about sex and came up with some interesting findings.

As it turns out, women want sex just as much as their partners- or even more.

After surveying 500 of their female users about their opinions on the female libido it was found that 75 per cent said they want to have sex with their partners more than three times a week.

Another 13 per cent said that they wanted to have sex more than six times a week. More than half of the women surveyed said that they were not entirely satisfied with the amount of sex they were currently having.

While 72 per cent of those surveyed said they orgasm every time they’re with their partner and “many” do multiple times, just over half said an emotional connection was key to “good” sex. 23 percent cited foreplay as being more important.

The biggest obstacle when it comes to women fulfilling these desires: stress.

40 per cent of those surveyed cited stress as being the number one reason that aren't having as much sex as they would like.

However, 18 per cent of those surveyed revealed that absolutely nothing would get in their way if they wanted to have sex.

We all know that we’re supposed to down 2ltr of water a day.

We know it helps keep hunger pangs at bay; helps our skin and hair look its best, and helps keep our brains in tip-top working order.

But equally, most of us are fully aware of just how difficult it is to keep up a dedicated hydration routine.

Whether we’re put off by having to pop to the toilet every 30minutes, or because we’re more inclined to tuck into coffee, tea and soft drinks – having plenty of water is one of those things that should be straightforward… but rarely is.

In fact, one survey has now confirmed that seven out of ten of us simply don’t hit that 2ltr target – and that’s despite 75 percent of us being aware of our body’s daily water needs.

The same report, which has been compiled by BRITA, also confirmed that men trump women: males are almost twice as likely than females to hit their daily water consumption target (can we not blame our smaller bladders?).

Some 13 percent of respondents furthermore admitted that they’re just too lazy to drink up – although eight out of ten are happy to stick to tap rather than bottled water.

BRITA Ireland said in response that it was “really surprised at some of the research findings, particularly that 70 percent of those surveyed aren’t drinking the recommended daily allowance of water despite knowing the health benefits”.

The survey has been released to promote the BRITA Fill&Go – a BPA-free reusable water bottle which boasts a week-long lasting filter to remove impurities and nasty after-tastes.

Meanwhile, if you find that you’re one of the 70 percent who’s regularly feeling parched (we're guilty as charged), the company furthermore has five top tips for hitting that 2ltr daily water goal.

So drink up!

1) Add flavour: Adding fruit or herbs to your water gives it a lift and makes it less boring. Try mint, lemon or lime, strawberries, raspberries or pineapple.

2) Keep it close:  Most of us don’t drink enough water because we forget or are too lazy. If you have a bottle of water nearby, in your bag or on your desk, you’ll find you drink more of it during the day.

3) Get into a routine: Make an effort to have a glass when you wake up or after you brush your teeth, before your lunch and while you make dinner.

4) Cool down: Throw some ice-cubes in your non-water drinks – it will actually increase your overall intake. In fact, for fans of homemade juices and smoothies, adding in ice-cubes can actually add up to a full glass of water.

5) Try an app: WaterYourBody or Drinking Water can help you on your way. Alternatively, a few alerts on your phone throughout the day will remind you to hit the water-cooler.

Tourists from all over the world flock to our little island every day, but it seems us Irish are the ones who need to focus on getting to know the country better.

It turns out that being aware of the ins and outs of Ireland isn't just about swotting up on the best chipper or the cheapest cocktails within a five mile radius. A new survey by the Jurys Inn hotel group revealed that, far from being experts on their homeland, one in three Irish people can't pick out Co. Cavan on a map, with 20% not recognising Mayo and a further 18% not knowing where Tipperary is.

In fact, it looks like we'd all fail Junior Cert Geography these days, as 25% of Irish people cannot name the county that is home to Ben Bulben and one in ten admit they have no idea where the Giant's Causeway is. The answers are Sligo and Antrim, just for the record.

The real test came when participants were asked to guess whether some …unusual… Irish place names were real or fake. A huge 82% of us believe that Doodys Bottoms is a fake name, something the people of Co. Wicklow might not be too happy to hear. As for Bastardstown, Co. Wexford, 64% of Irish people refuse to believe it exists.

The verdict? It's time to get out there and reconnect with Ireland. One in four Irish people say they've seen more tourist attractions abroad than here on the Emerald Isle, so why not choose a staycation this summer instead of forking out for flights?

With the weather finally picking up and a few bank holidays on the way, let's embrace all that our lovely little country has to offer. Any chance of a lift to Doodys Bottoms?

With phrases like ‘swiping right’ and ‘POF hook-ups’ becoming part of our daily discourse, we were eager to find out just how many of you have taken the plunge and uploaded a personal profile in a bid to find Mr. Right…or in some cases, Mr. Right Now.

You ladies were split almost directly down the middle about whether there was a stigma attached to this modern dating method and yet a massive 71% of you have tried it!

Even more impressive is the fact that 40% of these dates have turned into serious relationships. Not too shabby!

Curiosity was the main motivator for all you online daters out there, while in true Irish form the notion that it was bound to be a bit of craic came in a close second. We’re just slaves to the banter, aren’t we?

The majority of you use Tinder as your digital cupid and your response was overwhelmingly positive, but we weren’t surprised to hear that some encounters were a little less than perfect!

Declarations of love on the first date (no, really) and confirmation that guys have no problem lying about their height online were just some of the deets you generous girls disclosed to us.

Looking out for your fellow ladies, you advised each other not to be too trusting, not to message the guy for too long before eventually meeting and to remember that many wonderful relationships all started with that first swipe right!

This will be music to musicians’ ears.

A new study has found that a guitar can instantly boost a man’s attractiveness.

Yes, according to research carried out in the UK, a staggering 90 per cent of people surveyed admitted that playing the guitar is one of the sexiest qualities a man can possess.

Cue men everywhere banging down the doors of their local music store.

Among the draws of musically gifted men is the belief that they are ‘good with their hands’, while over half of those surveyed said they were attracted to the ‘whole rock star thing’.

According to the survey, carried out by Internet giant eBay, 57 per cent put the guitar player’s pulling power down to the belief that it demonstrates passion and sensitivity.

Those who took part in the survey also named their top guitar songs of all time, with Jimi Hendrix’s classic All Along the Watchtower voted as the top song to be serenaded with.

We definitely get the lure of the guitar player, but what about the drummer?!

A survey into people’s happiness and satisfaction in relationships has shown that it’s the little things which matter most.

The factors which lead to a good relationship include at least five kisses a day, sharing chores if you live together, sharing hobbies and having at least one romantic dinner a month.

The survey was produced to mark the launch of the Two Together Railcard in the UK, and not coincidentally it found that couples are happier when they travel together. On the train perhaps. Ahem.

Marketing aside, the survey shows that the most important thing for couples is to be affectionate and to spend time together. Plan dates, have fun together and always let your partner know how much you appreciate them.

This whole love thing isn’t so complicated after all.

We definitely agree with this recent study by charity OnePlusOne – apparently the things we cherish most in relationships are the little, everyday gestures that show you care, such as making your partner a cup of tea.

It also found that people with higher emotional intelligence had the most successful relationships, which isn't all that surprising – no one wants to be with an insensitive caveman.

The ‘6 Cs’ are also very important if you want your relationship to last: connect, commitment, communication, care, compromise and resolving conflicts.

The UK’s Department of Education launched a campaign last week called Love Nuggets, and the slogan is: “Everday things that people do to make a relationship happy”.

The campaign is adamant that “regular small acts of kindness such as taking your partner a cup of tea in bed can lead to a happier, healthier and stronger relationship, even more than big gestures like chocolates or expensive holidays.”

We have to say we totally agree – though if someone wanted to bring us on an expensive holiday, that’s fine too!

A survey of 4,800 people found that Tuesday morning between 10am and noon is the time when people do the most sexting.

Not only this, but all you iPhone users must be eating something the rest of us aren’t, because you’re sending twice as many sexts as your android counterparts.

However, while the guys have no objections to receiving photos of scantily clad ladies, 75% of women said they don’t like getting sexy photos from men.

Hmmm…maybe women are just better photographers?

A new study has revealed that some women are already planning their big day before even getting engaged.

According to Mashable and TheKnot.com 70% of women are already creating wedding boards on the social media site Pinterest.

The survey revealed that women are already planning “their big day” from inspirational mood boards to honeymoon snaps posted in real time.

89% even admitted to downloading wedding apps for their smart phones, and 55% said that even use a wedding hashtag to find the latest wedding trends.

Steady on ladies, we all know how important weddings can be, however, it’s probably a good idea to wait till you hear the question first, before deciding on any floral arrangements.

The very first Good Country Index was published yesterday. The index measures what each country on earth contributes to the common good of humanity, and what it takes away. And Ireland? Well, we’re pretty great by the looks of things.

Ireland finished in the top ten in four of the seven categories and came first overall for outdoing any other country in the world with out contribution to humanity and the planet.

And yes, we came six places ahead of the UK and 20 ahead of the US.

Pretty great achievement, eh?

New research has shown that tummy trouble is costing the Irish economy a whopping €45million every year!

The study, carried out by All-Bran, surveyed 500 women aged between 18 and 60 and found that most women (89%) experience embarrassing stomach complaints, such as bloating or gas, at least once a week.

Sound familiar?

One in five (21%) of those who work admitted to taking at least one day off in the last 12 months as a result.

On top of this, one in five (21%) women who have taken time off for tummy woes worry that it has harmed their prospects of a promotion, pay rise or bonus.

13% of women fear it has negatively impacted their relationship with their boss, while a quarter (26%) admitted to avoiding the work toilet for fear of being shown up by their stomach.

More than half (60%) also said that the problems make them feel unproductive and unable to perform at their best at work.

Outside work, the impact can be just as hard to digest. 15% women have missed out on social events or family occasions due to the state of their stomach whilst almost half (49%) said tummy niggles make them feel self-conscious about showing off their body on holiday.

The research also found that almost one in five (18%) of women skip breakfast at least twice a week, which is one of the main causes of poor digestive health.

In response, All-Bran is launching a new campaign – SOS: Save Our Stomachs – to encourage people to up their daily intake of fibre, which is scientifically proven to improve digestive health.

SOS spokesperson, Dr Ciara Kelly said, “Many women see stomach complaints as a normal part of everyday life – but, for the majority, it doesn’t have to be that way.

“Having a healthy diet which you like, by eating healthy foods that you enjoy is the first step towards better digestive health.  Most of us could see a big improvement just by eating a high-fibre breakfast, like All-Bran, every morning.”
