Many of us were absolutely RAISED on Disney when we were kids. We grew up with the incredible cinema releases of The Lion King, Aladdin, Cinderella, Mulan and The Little Mermaid, and it changed our lives forever.

The Disney princess role has changed as the generations got older (and more feminist), bringing more progressive films with 3D female characters such as Brave, Frozen, Moana, The Princess and the Frog and Tangled.

Kiera Knightly recently spoke out against the films, saying that her three-year-old daughter is banned from watching them in her home.

keira knightley smiling GIF

When asked why, she said to "rescue yourself!" from the prince is a far better message to send to young women; "Cinderella waits around for a rich guy to rescue her. Don’t." Right on, gal, right on. Fight the power.

However, when we were watching the classic princess films as children, I highly doubt we realised at the time just how YOUNG they all are, which arguably makes the movies seem a tad creepy.

It's basically teens getting sexualised and sent off to live with a man who has privilege over them forever.

For decades, young girls have been seeing these characters as role models; they're compassionate, fierce, caring, brave and highly intelligent.

Many of the gals are preparing for marriage, but they're in their mid-teens. Seems a little weird, considering the men they're marrying are often at least ten years older.

For example. Pocahontas' age in the film was never confirmed, but in real life she actually met John Smith when she was just a 10 year old girl. Ew.

First up: Princess Jasmine. Aladdin's bae was only 15-years-old in the film, as a recent The Mary Sue article pointed out. So when she's dressed in red and is seducing Jafar (a creepy old man), she's officially underage…

princess jasmine disney GIF

A key portion of the film revolves around the fact that she's obliged to marry a prince before her sixteenth birthday, which is three days away.

The Mary Sue also noted that Jasmine is a highly sexualised character, with Jafar commanding the genie to force her to love him. Alright…we're officially disturbed.

Plus, that waist-line is a fantasy; she'd fit maybe half an organ in there if she's lucky.

HuffPost has previously pointed out that none of the 'official' Disney princesses are older than 19, even though most of them are wed or engaged by the end of each of their respective movies.

Ariel is a sixteen-year-old who claims to be an adult, while Eric is the ripe old age of 18. So in today's day-and-age, it would be illegal for them to marry.

Granted, these films are purely fantasy, but it's pretty strange how they design the princesses as sexualised teenagers who always end up with an older man.

If this next one doesn't shock you, we don't know what will. Snow White is just 14 YEARS OLD when she meets her prince, and escapes from a cruel queen who tries to cut out her heart out of vanity.

The prince also kisses her while she's KO'd; problematic as f*ck.

Kristen Bell has also pointed out issues with Snow White as a film, which was the first colour Disney animation and was released back in 1938.

“Don’t you think that it’s weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission?” Bell says she asked her daughters. “Because you can not kiss someone if they’re sleeping!” Hello, consent?

Fairy tales don’t have a stable form, and every era rewrites centuries old fairy tales to fit it's specific agenda or zeitgeist. Many Disney princesses were based on the 1812 Brothers Grimm tales.

drunk kristen wiig GIF

They changed their book of stories to adapt to 19th-century German bourgeois family values, so why can't we update them in 2019?

Cinderella was transformed into a live-action remake recently, but ZERO alterations were made.

Our Chinese hero warrior Mulan, famous for it's WHOPPER tunes like I'll Make a Man Out of You: she's also sixteen. Yet she has to nurture a fragile toxic male ego, and marries him in the end.

Ok, then, it took a woman to fix a man's dodgy job and her reward is a lifetime of obedience. Sleeping Beauty's Aurora was also 16-years-old, and we've got another classic case of non-consent.

sleeping beauty kiss GIF

While Disney has 100 percent made improvements for it's female characters, like Frozen's Queen Elsa and Princess Anna especially, and Brave's Merida (also 16); it's important to be aware of the classic films and their morals.

The live-action Aladdin doesn't arrive for another few months (May 24 to be exact), we have no idea if Jasmine will be a more marriage-appropriate age. The actress cast to play her is 25-years-old, at least.

Naomi Scott isn't a teenager, so let's hope her character isn't either.  Scott told Entertainment Weekly that her character’s goal is “really to protect her people, to do right by them," in December, so we have high hopes.

The eye-wateringly hot Marwan Kenzari has been cast as Jafar in the live-action flick, and he looks FAR younger than the animated character. He's a certified thirst trap.

We're relieved they're moving away from the creepy-old-man game, thank God. The movie looks intriguing, if just for a blue Will Smith as the genie. (Check out those memes about him, they're amazing)

Bring on the badass empowered female princesses, like Meghan Markle and the Thai princess Ubolratana who recently attempted to run for Prime Minister. Get it, gurls.

The search for Nora received worldwide support, as the daughter of a French-Irish couple living in London. Meabh and Sebastien Quoirin thanked those who contributed to the fundraising effort.

Nora’s aunt and uncle raising more than £100,000 online to help in the search.

At a press conference held on Tuesday, August 13, deputy police chief Mazlan Mansor told reporters Nora’s body was winched by helicopter to a hospital mortuary.

The body “was not in any clothings” and that the police were looking into all possibilities including the “angle of criminal investigation”.

President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, and his wife Sabina were among those to offer their “deepest condolences” to Nora’s parents and her family.

The family of Nóra Quoirin has confirmed the female body found earlier this morning is their daughter's.

Nóra's family identified the body following a post-mortem examination at a local hospital around 70km south of Kuala Lampur.

Volunteers discovered the 15-year-old's body near a stream around 2km from where she disappeared on August 4.

The Lucie Blackman Trust, which are helping the Quoirin family in every way they can, said: "Investigations are under way to confirm identity and cause of death."

Nóra's mother Meabh, from Belfast, made a heartbreaking appeal yesterday to find her daughter, also offering a significant reward for any information.

She said:

"Nóra is our first child. She has been vulnerable since the day she was born. She is so precious to us and our hearts are breaking."

Meabh added: We are appealing to anyone who has information about Nóra to help us find her." Hundreds of volunteers, police and Indigenous trackers were searching for the teenager over the past 10 days.

The family have been based in London for the past 20 years, and had arrived at the Dusun resort on the day before Nóra went missing.

15-year-old Nóra was born with the brain defect holoprosencephaly and had special needs. Our deepest condolences go out to the Quoirin family at this distressing time.

I was seventeen the first time I fell in love.

It was with one of my childhood friends and we had what I now know was chemistry (at the time he was just constantly getting under my skin).

But when we started going out, everything clicked into place.

We fell into an all-consuming type of love, the only type you can have when you're 17.

It was the messaging under the covers at night/hungry kisses in my hall on a school night/naive and hormone-fuelled kinda thing.

Being a teenager in general, your world is small and that means that everything is heightened.

This person is suddenly your whole life and because it's the first time you're having these feelings…it's intense.

Things like jealousy rear their ugly head for the first time and this can cause dizzying heights and crashing lows.

When the inevitable heartbreak came, we were nineteen.

My whole world blurred and temporarily nothing seemed to make sense.

Being with your first love is a magical time and one that many of us just can't seem to let go of – but why?

Image result for the notebook gifs

Why do we have this bond?

So, this is the science bit.

When two people first meet, their bodies release a stress hormone called norepinephrine.

This is what makes you have the butterflies in your stomach, heart pounding away in your chest, the whole works.

Researchers at Arizona State University College also found this cool thing – the hormone makes events burn into your memory.

You know the way you can remember specific kisses or conversations you had but what happened the day before is a blur?

They discovered a link that causes these strong emotions to form a specific sensory experience.

In other words, when you get around that person again, their presence causes those old memories and initial feelings to come flooding back.

It's not that you don't forget about them; when you see them again, those old feelings of first love can return.

So it looks like first love is the deepest – in a literal sense as it's carved out what you think love should look like.

We never learn as much from a relationship as we do from our first serious one and because of that, they will never fully leave us.

In the words of writer Daphne du Maurier, ''I am glad it cannot happen twice, the fever of first love. For it is a fever, and a burden, too, whatever the poets may say."

We really don't understand why this latest trend appeals to teenagers to risk their lives for online attention.

The craze is called 'balconying' which involves young Irish and British teenagers posting videos of themselves online hopping from balcony to balcony in their holiday resorts.

This terrifying trend has claimed 46 lives since it began in 2012, reports the Sun.

The latest incident according to the Sun ended in an 18-year-old Irish girl being fined for refusing to stop jumping from balcony to balcony when Majorca authorities had asked her to.

Subsequently, the publication reports that the teenager fell from the first floor and was treated for minor injuries.

Police in the popular tourist resort has introduced new laws against balconying

If caught an individual could face a minimum penalty of €600 and a maximum of €1,500, says the Sun.

However, it is unknown how much the Irish teenager will be fined.

Additionally, the police have now issued videos in English to British and Irish holidaymakers to deter them from taking on the craze.

If you're thinking about getting involved in the trend, think twice about the serious consequences this could have not only for your life, but your family too.

A 16-year-old boy has tragically died following a traffic collision in Co. Kildare on the 3rd July.

The boy was cycling at Oughterard, Straffan at 4.50pm on the 3rd July, when he was involved in a collision with a car.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was treated for head injuries, but died this weekend.

The driver of the car a woman in her 40s was not injured.

A Garda investigation into the collision is underway.

Our thoughts are with the boy's family and friends at this devastating time.

Earlier in the summer, the garda urged cyclists to take care and bike safely on the roads, following their report that 171 motorcyclists have been killed and 629 seriously injured since 2010.

"Motorcyclists and cyclists are among our most vulnerable of road users because they have very little protection in the event of a crash. Cyclists can help reduce this vulnerability by taking some very simple steps. Wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and high visibility clothing to make yourself visible to other road-users plus ride with your dipped headlight on," said Garda Commissioner Mr Donál Ó Cualáin.
