UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to the rainy weather expected later on this evening, the Happenings and 7UP Free® screening of Dirty Dancing has been postponed until next week.

Happenings, in association with 7up Free is delighted to announce that it will return to Merrion Square, Dublin for the second instalment of Summer Cinema. The park will be transformed into an outdoor cinema for a special screening of the smash hit romcom Dirty Dancing tomorrow evening, Friday, July 27.

There's no better way to spend a Friday night than swooning over Patrick Swayze on the big screen.

The film follows the story of ‘Baby’ (Jennifer Grey) who finds herself on a sleepy summer holiday with her family. While there, she falls in love with the camp’s dance instructor Johnny (Patrick Swayze) whom her father forbids her to see. However, she is determined to help him perform the last big dance of the summer!

Gates open at 8.30pm with the movie screening beginning as the sun goes down.

Before the movie kicks off, guests can settle into a comfy billow bag with a complimentary 7up Free in the beautiful surrounds of Merrion Square – perfectly capturing the taste and feeling of summer.

There will be a host of tasty food vendors available and guests are welcome to bring their own picnics, snacks and outdoor movie essentials! In keeping with Happening’s Leave No Trace policy, Summer Cinema goers are urged to take all belongings with them once the movie has ended and small bags will be provided to dispose of any rubbish.

Places are limited for each screening, so make sure to follow the Happenings and 7UP Free social media channels to be the first to know the dates and times for each screening and avoid missing out on these blockbuster events.

Tickets are priced at €5 and are available to book in advance online or on the door. Early arrival is advised to get the best seats in the house – “Nobody puts baby in a corner!”

Pixar fans, rejoice! One of the greatest Dublin cinemas is showing the best Pixar movies throughout the month of August.

The Lighthouse Cinema will be screening classics like A Bug’s Life and Toy Story, and newer releases like Inside Out and Coco.

Fan favourites including Cars, Monsters Inc. and The Good Dinosaur will also be shown. How exciting!

The Pixar season is bound to attract herds of people to the cinema in Smithfield, who are known for their famous film seasons.

Speaking of the exciting summer event, they said: “This summer we’re bringing you (and the kids!) a season of Pixar films, including every feature film in their repertoire, a Toy Story marathon for all to fill your hearts with joy and a Cars marathon for all the little Lightning McQueens out there.”

It looks like we'll be spending most of August at the Lighthouse Cinema, stuffing our faces with popcorn and enjoying some of the best animated movies.

New York had Studio 54 and Manchester had The Hacienda but ALL of Ireland has Copper Face Jacks!

And now this Club Of Clubs is getting its very own all-singing, all-dancing musical as producers are proud to present the world premiere of Paul Howard’s latest comedy masterpiece, Copper Face Jacks: The Musical.  

Opening in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on Thursday, July 5th, the musical is a celebration of a club that started out life as something of a Culchie Embassy in Dublin but has since been embraced by its home city. 

Regardless of your county colours, you’ll always find a welcome in the club that has become synonymous with having a good time for three generations of Irish nightclubbers.

Music lovers, rejoice! Vance Joy has just announced a second Dublin date at The Olympia Theatre on November 16.

The weekend festivities may be over, but that doesn’t mean you have to wallow in your own self-pity tonight. One of the best things to do after a hectic weekend is to unwind and watch one of your favorite movies.

We recommend watching something light and funny to deal with that dreaded Sunday night fear, and luckily enough the perfect Sunday night flick is on TV tonight.

Thanks to the wonderful people over at Universal we’ll be tuning into one of the funniest Sandra Bullock movies.

The Proposal is on at 9 pm tonight and we are beyond excited about it. It’s hard to believe it’s been nine years since the film was initially released.

The hilarious movie stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. Bullock stars as the fierce editor whose world flips upside down when she is told she might be deported back home to Canada.

Luckily, the quick-thinking boss puts a plan together and uses her assistant to solve her problems. She tells Reynolds’ character, Andrew, that he must marry her, but he will only agree if she promotes him to editor and publishes his book.

The duo embarks on a trip to Andrew’s hometown where they have to convince his family and their immigration agent that their marriage isn't a complete farce.

This movie is full of witty scenes, touching moments and an infamous dance sequence with Betty White.

We couldn’t think of anything better to watch on a Sunday night.

A limited number of extra seated tickets are being released for Paul Simon’s highly anticipated Dublin show.

The legendary songwriter, recording artist and performer Paul Simon’s farewell concert tour comes to the RDS Dublin on Friday 13 July, bringing to the stage a stunning, career-spanning repertoire of timeless hits and classic songs which have permeated and influenced popular culture for generations.

It is especially poignant that Paul Simon will perform his farewell concert tour in the RDS, where he first performed in Ireland in 1982 as Simon and Garfunkel.

 

He will be joined by James Taylor & his All-Star Band and Bonnie Raitt.

Tickets will go on sale this Monday 2 July at 9 am from Ticketmaster, so make sure you set your alarm to get your hands on these tickets.

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service has called on the public to donate blood this summer as these months can be some of the most challenging for the service.

They need at least 15,000 donors per month for the blood supply to remain at a steady level.

The service has specifically asked for people who are O positive, O negative, A positive and B negative to donate.

Operating Director of the IBTS Paul McKinney said: "The summer months are always a challenging time for blood donation – children are on holidays or doing exams, the evenings are long and fine, or there are other distractions such as the World Cup.”

He has asked people to donate before they go on their holidays.

By donating blood you can help people live happier and healthier lives. Thousands of people need blood in Ireland’s hospitals, especially those who are undergoing surgery, recovering from cancer or have been in a serious accident.

Move over Lord Sugar! 

Nestlé Ireland staff are gearing up to compete in a fierce Shop Wars competition in a drive to raise money for Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI).

Two teams will take over and run two DSI charity shops in Dublin for one day this Friday 13th October with the team raising the most money in their shop crowned the winner. Besides seeking to increase average sales at the shops, Nestlé will also match the funds raised by winning team – all benefitting DSI.

The charity shop challenge involves two DSI shops, one in the heart of Dublin at the historic GPO and the other in the Dublin suburb, Kimmage.  Teams have devised lots of activity to attract customers including raffles, sweet treats and new stock.

People are being encouraged to come along between 9am-5pm to the local DSI store in Kimmage or the GPO Arcade to get a great bargain and support DSI. All are welcome.

Over 30 colleagues from across Nestlé Ireland’s business are involved using their marketing, in-store activation and shopper insight skills in an effort to get customers into the stores to purchase the items on sale.

The two teams have pulled out all the stops with preparations underway for weeks to make the initiative a huge success – with Team GPO even arranging outdoor advertising to draw attention to the special offers in their shop. Both teams have devised plans for in-store activities along with promoting the activities across their personal social media channels to raise awareness and encourage the public to get behind their team.

The Team Kimmage’s shop event is focused on Halloween with lots tricks and treats up their sleeve, playing on the spookiness of Friday 13th. Customers who donate €2 instore will be in with the chance of winning prizes such as; Sleeping Beauty panto family tickets, a brand new coffee machine, Life Style Sports vouchers and of course delicious Nestlé chocolate, sweets  and coffee.

To top it all off the team plan to have a special appearance from Big Bird to wow shoppers and will have an array of some of the scariest Halloween costumes for kids and adults this spooky season.

Team GPO team will be aiming to race to raise cash by offering pre-Christmas bargains. With the stock decked out for Christmas it offers lots of new stocking fillers to get ahead of the shopping rush.

Other goodies up for grabs will include; lots of shopping vouchers, gift hampers, plus sweet treats with each purchase made in store on Friday. The GPO team will also have a surprise celebrity guest appearance on the day!

Andrew Shaw, Country Business Manager, Nestlé Ireland (Team GPO) said; “Over the past number of weeks the two teams have been planning and scheming how to win the challenge. It has created a healthy competitive spirit as each team seeks to be the winner to raise the most funds for Down Syndrome Ireland. 

I’m sure the atmosphere in both shops will be electric on the day with spot prizes, raffles, goodie bags, coffee and confectionery along with a guest appearance from Big Bird promised, being used to drive footfall into the shops! The passion and commitment by colleagues will hopefully raise significant funds for DSI.”

Nestlé’s employees in Ireland have committed to raise €70,000 for Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI) in a two year staff Charity of the Year partnership announced earlier this year, which is absolutely amazing. 

The partnership will involve over 700 employees from Nestlé Ireland, Citywest and Nestlé's Wyeth Nutrition infant formula plant in Askeaton, Co. Limerick raising funds to benefit the services and supports provided by DSI for families with Down syndrome.

DSI supports over 3,500 members across Ireland through its specialist services in healthcare, education, early development, speech and language therapy and independence.

Temperatures this weekend are set to hit 19 degrees, and there is no way we're going to let this fine weather pass us by.

5. Eatyard

If you haven't already had the chance to hit up Eatyard, then this weekend is the perfect opportunity.

The foodie festival has a vast range of delicious food stalls ready to be plundered, with everything from delicious sweet potato fries at Box Burger to the insanely poplar bubble waffles at Bubble Waffle Factory.

4. Dine al fresco in the park 

Ireland has plenty of beautiful parks that are well worth a visit on a sunny weekend like this.

Grab a few nibbles from the supermarket and lay out a blanket to sunbathe, because this great weather isn't going anywhere. 

This is ideal if you have the misfortune of working this weekend, as lunching in the park is the perfect way to see a bit of sun, even if it is just for an hour.

City Kayaking Dublin gives sporting enthusiasts the opportunity to explore the river Liffey and see the entire city from a very unique vantage point.

Park yourself at a comfortable table outside your favourite pub and people watch with your favourite drink in hand.

This one is pretty obvious, but Ireland has so many beautiful beaches that don't get half as much use as they should thanks to our usually lacklustre weather. 

Bring the sun cream and some change for a 99 and you're all set.

So, the clocks are going forward on Sunday, and we're losing an hour of sleep but gaining a fine stretch to the evening. 

The weather is officially warming up this weekend, and we want to take the opportunity to live a little.

Here's a few suggestions for things to do now that the clocks are going forward. 

5, Hit up a food festival

Dublin's Eatyard has become a hub of delicious food, drinks and fun, with a complimentary medley of authentic cultural cuisine, flea market finds and a laid-back atmosphere.

The food festival is located by the Bernard Shaw on Richmond Street South, and now that the days are getting longer, there is a plethora or time to spend mooching and munching your way around the stalls.

And the light will be better for amazing foodie Instagram pictures, obviously. 

4. Have a garden party

Get the girls around for a few Tom Collins cocktails and lay out some blankets, poofs and throws in the garden to create your own uber-cool laid-back mini-festival.

You could even string some fairy lights through the trees if you are feeling fancy.

3. Dining al fresco

Drag the kitchen table outside and dine al fresco, or even rev up the barbecue and grill a few burgers.

2. Go for that epic day trip you've been meaning to take

Whether it's a trip to Lahinch to try your hand at surfing or finally heading up to the Giant's Causeway like you've always wanted, those extra hours of daylight make all the difference when you have a long drive to take across the country. 

1. Explore your city

Seriously, you've lived in your town for how long and you haven't quite managed to see al the parks, beaches and activities it ahs to offer.

Getting that extra stretch in the evenings is the perfect excuse to take a picnic to the park or cycle around your city to truly appreciate your area.
