throwback

If there's one thing we love in this life, it's throwback photos.

And when they belong to some of our favourite stars, they're even more enjoyable, so big thanks to Ellen DeGeneres who treated her millions of followers to a shot of herself at what can only be described as everyone's most awkward age.

Sporting short, auburn curls and looking decidedly uncomfortable, Ellen forced a smile, and reminded us why teenage years are so damn uncomfortable.

"In honor of Season 15, here’s a photo of me when I was just about 15 (why God, why?!)" she wrote in the same anguished tone we reserve for our own teen photos.

"Now I wanna see yours. Post a photo from when you were 15 with #ellen15 and you just might see yourself on my show next week!" she encouraged in the post which has racked up more 645,000 likes since its upload last night.

Landing on the post with glee, one follower wrote: "Talk about a glow up" while another added: "For a split second I thought this was a pic of the kid from Stranger Things."

Ellen, we literally adore you.

We're suckers for a bit of nostalgia here at SHEmazing HQ, and nowhere is this more evident than when we cast our minds back over the charts of the last decade.

After realising that Paramore's Riot! was released a full ten years ago, we started reminiscing over the tracks that captured our hearts and minds in that same year.

And as it is August 1, we thought it appropriate to focus our attention on the songs that dominated the national and international charts this same month ten years ago.

With Rihanna finally relinquishing the top spot after Umbrella spent weeks at Number One, these five tracks promptly took its place.

Prepare to feel old, ladies.

Ireland

The Way I Are: Timbland feat Keri Hilson & D.O.E Sebastian.

You'd have been hardpressed to make it through a day in Ireland this month ten years ago without hearing this track at least five times.

UK

With Every Heartbeat: Robyn with Kleerup

The Swedish songstress earned her first UK Number One wth this corker.

Stronger: Kanye West

Still one of our favourites tracks Yeezy has ever released.

USA

Hey There Delilah: Plain White T's

Potentially one of the most overplayed songs of that summer, to be fair.

Beautiful Girls: Sean Kingston

You either loved it or hated it, ladies.

Now, go lament your lost youth, ladies.

As hard as it is to believe, 2007 was a whole decade ago.

Oh, that's right ladies, toddlers who were doing nothing but toddling in 2007 are now gearing up to start secondary school, and yet you haven't aged a day. Ahem.

So, let's take a look at the TV, tracks and trends that kept you on your toes way back when…

1.  You wanted an iPhone so damn bad

Tomorrow it will be – wait for it – ten years since the first iPhone went on sale.

That's right, ladies; on June 29 2007, everything stepped up a gear, and a generation of people who once considered Nokia's Snake the height of cellular excitement were exposed to a whole new world of apps, messaging services and online features.

2. You were singing Umbrella

And so was every other person on planet Earth.

For ten whole weeks during the summer of 2007, Rihanna's track stayed at number one, and we thought nothing of repeating 'ella, ella, eh, eh, eh' until the end of time.

3. You watched David Hasslehof eat a burger

When you first heard that a video of David Hasslehof eating a burger was doing the rounds, you had your reservations.

But then you bit the bullet, searched those key words and found yourself mildly mesmorised by the actions of drunk TV star chowing down after a heavy night on the sesh.

4. You wondered how Paris Hilton would cope in jail

After being sentenced to 45 days behind bars, the public became engrossed in the socialite's trials and tribulations.

Who could ever forget the image of a tearful Paris behing driven from an LA courthouse by her mother?

5. You laughed at Miss Teen South Carolina

When Miss Teen South Carolina was asked why she believed one-fifth of Americans could not locate the US on a map, she had a lot to say.

It turns out that she personally believed that US Americans were unable to do so because some people out there in her nation don't have maps and she believed that their education such as South Africa and the Iraq everywhere like… such as… and she believed that they should… our education over here in the US… should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up ur future… for our children. *And breathe*

Thanks for that, Miss Teen South Carolina.

6. You cried along with Ellen

When Ellen DeGeneres made a heartfelt appeal for the return of Iggy the Dog, we wept alongside her.

Ten years on, and we still can't watch.

7. You tuned into Xposé

Hosted by Lorraine Keane, Karen Koster, Sybil Mulcahy, Aisling O’Loughlin and Lisa Cannon, the new TV3 show was Ireland's slice of celebrity and entertainment news.

And whether you wanted to or not, you always found yourself tuning in…

8. You obsessed over Celebrity Big Brother

It was one of the most explosive Celebrity Big Brothers to date, and with good reason.

With claims of racial tension, discrimination and outright bullying at the helm, the series, which featured Jade Goody, Shilpa Shetty and Danielle Lloyd, became an international incident.

9. You were totally here for Avril Lavigne's comeback

Umbrella may have been number one for all eternity, but Girlfriend was your personal anthem of the year.

And you didn't care who knew it.

10. You wore footless tights and denim skirts

And if your footless tights were fishnet, then all the better.

Oh, and if you could team that stellar combo with a pair of Converse you had artfully decorarted with Emo-like musings, then why hold back, girl?

11. Your Bebo skin was your main concern

Stars, hearts, black, pink; the choice was yours.

But Lord knows you simply couldn't choose, and spent most of your free time customising that page like a good thing.

Síle Seogie gave us a blast from the past this week when she shared a throwback photo from her debs on Twitter.

The TV star came across the photo which her mother kept safe.

Síle wrote: "Came across some photos at home & this that my Momma had kept. 20 years ago in the @CTribune."

She added, "The fringe," along with a laughing face (have we all had that fringe at some point?!).

However, the one thing that people noticed the most was how Síle hasn't aged at all.

She's just as fresh-faced now as she was 20 years ago!

It's safe to say we all want her genes!

In a move which has everyone at SHEmazing! HQ weeping into their Christmas jumpers this afternoon, Robbie Williams and Emma Bunton performed one of our firm festive favourites last night.

In front of some very lucky Heart listeners, the singers, who became household names in the 90s, took to the stage, and absolutely nailed 2 Become 1.

20 years after the song took the charts by storm, Robbie and Emma dusted it off, and frankly we're in love.

Promoting the performance online, Heart tweeted: "We think this should totally be Christmas number 1! Love this version."

Ah lads, the feels!

Kendall and Kylie Jenner are two of the word's most famous faces, after we watched them grow up in front of the cameras on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Now a mega-model and makeup mogul respectively, the sisters shared a sweet snap of a Christmas long ago.

A photo posted by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

Taking to her Instagram, 19-year-old Kylie uploaded this adorable Polaroid picture of the sisters on Santa's knee, in 2000.

Sixteen years later, the snap has garnered almost 300,000 likes and comments, as fans gush over the Kardashian-Jenners' cuteness.

However, some fans are slagging Kylie's changed appearance.

One particular dig at the star pokes fun at her inflated lips, photoshopping her new lips onto her young face.

The social media mega-star is probably used to getting slack for her fondness for fillers at this stage, so we doubt this new dig will phase the teen.

Ah, the good 'oul days.

Nicole Kidman appeared on Graham Norton last night and while she was there, Graham took her on a trip down memory lane.

Pulling up pictures from Nicole's early years of modelling, no one could believe the difference between then and now.

Nicole actually spent a good few minutes talking about her curly hair and gave some advice to girls with curly gruaig.

"I have to say – anyone who has curly hair that's young: keep your curly hair! Don't straighten it because after a while, you don't get your curls back.

"They kind of become just a frizz-mass," she added.

Well, that was certainly a throwback.

Ah Funderland, what would our childhoods have been without it?

Only second to the arrival of Santa Claus, the annual trip to the dizzy-making, nausea-inducing world of rides was the best part of the Christmas holidays.

These days Funderland has an array of incredible new attractions including the Eclipse, Discovery, Polyp, Break Dance and Star Flyer as well as Ireland's largest outdoor ice rink, but back in our day it was a haze of candy floss, sticky rides, and overexcited children.

And here are just nine things that happened the moment you entered the Land of Fun.

1. Whether it was the result of too much junk food or a third spin on the same damn ride, someone would ALWAYS get sick.

“Don’t mind me, lads. I’ll be back to myself in no time.”

2.  Your country cousins, who always made the pilgrimage to Dublin for the big event, made no secret of their awe over your cityslicker ways.

“Take it all in, folks.  You’re in the big smoke now… don’t look at anyone in a hoody.”

3.  You happily kissed goodbye to every penny you made off kindly aunts and uncles over the Christmas period.

“I’m getting another bag of candyfloss and I’m eating it on the Dodgems and then I’m getting another bag and then I’m going on the Dodgems again – Aunt Margaret would have wanted it this way.”

4. At least one person in your gang would get the shift, and everyone else realised it was time to up their game.

“It was like a washing machine, and I’m so in love.”

5. You ruined at least one item of your good Christmas outfit that you begged to be allowed wear, and you had to muster up the courage to tell your mam.

“Don’t panic, but I’m after tearing the arse out of my tracksuit bottoms, but it’s grand cos I’m just going to tie my jumper around my waist.”

6. The excitement sometimes got the better of you, and you would get taken aside by your dad who told you to calm jaysusin’ down.

“You’re frightening the other kids, and you’re making a show of your mother.”

7. Word would get around that a random kid had found a way to sneak onto the rides, and the mission to find him was officially on.

“I’ll take this side, you take that side, and between the pair of us we’ll have him cornered.”

8. After a certain age, you’d try to lose your parents in the crowd before being told you’d be made sit in the car if you pulled anything like that again.

“You’re pushing your luck now, I’m telling you.”

9. You were forced to go on the lamest ride in the park simply because it was all a younger sibling could handle.

"Get up there with your sister, and don't be making her feel bad."

Having once been described as a “poster girl for all things Celtic Tiger”, it’s hard to align Pippa O’Connor’s photocall image with her current status as leading influencer, denim designer and doting mum.

As drastic as her journey away from the days of Krystle nightclub and Andy Quirke now seems, there’s no denying that Pippa has managed to remain relevant in the increasingly competitive circles of Irish fashion.

In addition to ditching the false tan, “bad hair extensions” and “too short” clothing, the 32-year-old has made a number of clever career moves which have enabled her to become the celebrated fashionista she is today.

Blogging: While pregnant with her oldest son, Ollie, in 2013, Pippa launched her award-winning blog, pippa.ie.  Presenting her approach to fashion, beauty, lifestyle and motherhood in a relatable style quickly enabled Pippa to gain an impressive social media following, which currently enables her to reach around half a million people per day.  By 2015, this “accidental” success story enabled its founder to retire from modelling and focus on her entrepreneurial endeavours.

The Pippa Palette: Truly placing the Kildare native on the pathway to commercial success, the Pippa Makeup Palette has been sold 150,000 times since its release last year.  Produced by Blank Canvas Cosmetics and retailing for €34.99, the Pippa Palette features six wearable eyeshadow shades as well as blush, highlighter and contour powders.

Fashion Factories: In the last two years, Pippa has entertained around 40 different gatherings with her Fashion Factories.  In a recent interview with the Irish Independent, the mum of two described how running these fashion, beauty and lifestyle events helped her deal with the untimely death of her own mother, Louise, who passed just a fortnight before Pippa’s Fashion Factory debut.

TV Presenting: While her husband, Brian Ormond, remains one of Ireland’s most recognisable television presenters, Pippa herself is no stranger to life on the small screen.  Having been open about her desire to try presenting, last year she joined TV3’s Xposé as a guest host.  She returned to the channel this August to front The Seven O’Clock Show with Brian.

Becoming an author: In September this year, Pippa released her first book, Pippa: Tips to Live Beautifully.  Channelling her interests in fashion, beauty and lifestyle into a series of easy to apply tips, Pippa’s book aims to help others discover their own personal style while enhancing their sense of self-confidence.

National advertising campaigns: Adding yet another string to her bow, the busy blogger starred in the first TV advertising campaign for Connacht Gold Half-Fat Butter this October.  The ad – which sees a very glam Pippa posing in an oversized butter tub – has been played on RTÉ, TV3, 3e, Sky and E4.

POCO: Last month, Pippa began to tease her latest entrepreneurial project across her social media channels.  It was quickly revealed that said venture was a five piece range of jeans called POCO, which had been designed by the model herself.  Just as her book is filled with advice learned through her own life experiences, POCO was created to counteract issues Pippa has previously had while finding jeans.  This is especially obvious when it comes to the ‘Mama To Be’ style, which features an “ultra comfort” band that sits beneath the expectant mother’s bump.  POCO is currently available at pocobypippa.com.  Prices range from €85-€110.

After a year filled with boyfriend drama and squad goals, Taylor Swift got a little nostalgic on Instagram last night as she reminisced on a decade of music.

Taking to the site to celebrate her first album’s tenth anniversary, the Bad Blood singer shared a sweet picture of her teenage self playing a guitar while dressed in the uber noughties combo of a Pink hoody and three-quarter length jeans.

In the caption, the 26-year-old star acknowledged how her life has changed since the photo was taken, and thanked her fans for the part they played in that transition.

She wrote: “10 years ago today, my first album came out.  I couldn’t be more grateful today, thinking back on how much fun we’ve had and how you’ve encouraged me to change and grow.”

“It’s been such an adventure, guys.  Thank you for all of it.”

Five singles from Taylor Swift were released, each one went certified platinum.

Here at SHEmazing! HQ, we love a good celebrity transformation.

But while weight loss and hair dye can do A LOT for a person’s image, there’s nothing like a solid throwback to prove the strength of time’s transformative properties.

Yesterday, Blac Chyna took to Instagram to give fans a glimpse of “Young Chy” during her “tomboy” days, and it’s safe to say the girl in the photo looks nothing like the curvaceous reality star we’ve come to know.

While fans were quick to express their surprise at Chyna’s share, many commented on how much she used to look like her four-year-old son, King Cairo.

One follower wrote: “When you do a double take, thinking, kingy has had one hellavah growth spurt (sic).”  While another said: “I thought she Photoshopped her sons head on another body but look at the caption (sic).”

She’s remained defiant against bodyshamers, but it seems Chanelle Hayes may be feeling reminiscent of her slimmer days.

Having recently been snapped wearing a small black bikini while holidaying in Spain, the former Big Brother star has taken to Instagram to share two throwback beach pictures.

The first photo was taken while she was pregnant with her now six-year-old son, Blakely, and the second – which was posted today – came from a calendar shoot she did in 2014.

While the 28-year-old television personality’s weight has fluctuated drastically over the years, she recently told the Mail Online that her critics should “eat a croissant and get over it”.

And it seems Chanelle’s fans are supportive of her confidence as her latest upload features comments which suggest she looks as good at size 16 as she did at size 8.
