There are many stories surrounding the nightmare that can be online dating. There a lucky, and almost mythical few, who make it through unscathed and come out the other side with a shiny new relationship they couldn’t be happier about.

However, those seem to be few and far between. As a result, there are many blogs dedicated to dodgy Tinder dates and awkward coffee shop meetings.

No Bad Dates Just Good Stories is a Tumblr account dedicated to exactly that. Needless to say there are a number of stories to be found there that make us full-body cringe.

One of them in particular though is definitely in the running for worst date ever.

Lauren Crouch (who runs the Tumblr account) writes that her return to the dating did not go well, and that is putting it lightly.

The two met for coffee and he then invited her back to his place as he was expecting a delivery. She declined the offer and shortly afterwards was treated a series of the most awkward text messages ever.

Things just went further downhill from there:

Lauren, who says that she is a “huge” believer in women always offering to pay on dates was naturally less than impressed with his actions.

She wrote: “Yes you do decide yourself what to do with your money, and last night you decided to spend it on a coffee. I don’t come with a money back guarantee. Dates aren’t commodities.”

Now, and you thought your last blind date was less than stellar.

'Netflix and chill' is the new 'want to come up for a drink?' in the world of dating – a casual suggestion that we all know is going to lead to something more.

Now, some smart tech folks have capitalised on the term with a new app that serves a genius function.

If you're bored and not in the mood to swipe through hundreds of potential Tinder matches, you can simply find out who is nearby and send them an invite to, you've guessed it… watch Netflix and chill.

Like this:

The app, TikiTalk, was launched last week to great success, but the founders say it was just a flukey idea.

"Netflix and chill is just so funny. It was everything we were about. Sending someone an invite or whatever, you can make them smile," co-founder Daniel Ahn told Unilad.

"With Tinder, you have to swipe with every person. With this app, you literally open it, and you see who’s around you. From there, you can send them an invite to Netflix and chill."

Just last week, another new app, Netfling, promised to find you a match based on your Netflix preferences, pairing people with lots of mutually loved shows.

And with TikiTalk, we reckon the circle is complete. Find a match who loves the same shows, then invite them up with a cheeky 'Netflix and Chill?' request.

Who needs Tinder?

In a blog post, Tinder announced it will be providing users with some interesting new updates.

"Swipe up, up and away! We’re excited to give our users a new superpower, and a new way to swipe – UP. Introducing Super Like."

Now you have one definite way of making sure your crush knows exactly how you feel because once you swipe up on someone's profile, they get a notification to let them know you "super like" them.

"The person you Super Liked will take notice – when your profile appears and they’re deciding whether to swipe right, it will show up with a bright blue footer and star icon, highlighting that you Super Liked them. And when they do swipe right on your Super Like, it’ll be an immediate match!"

It doesn't necessarily mean a swipe up will pair you up with the match of your dreams though. The other person will still have to decide if they want to swipe right or not.

The app knows how important true love really is, so they don't want anyone to waste their opportunity at finding true love. Therefore, users will only get one Super Like a day. So choose wisely.

One downside to the feature is that as of now it is only available in Australia, but the app will hope to ensure the feature will "roll out globally" later on this year.

If you can't wait until then to see the magic blue star in action, then you can enjoy this elaborate trailer for the update:

The Grammy award winning singer Kelly Clarkson has been delighting her fans of late as she covers everything from Bryan Adams to Miley Cyrus with serious talent.

On Tuesday night, she appeared on the popular Jimmy Kimmel Live show and put on another incredible show.

This time thought it was a performance with a twist. Rather than cover some of her much-loved peers hit tracks, she opted for a more romantic approach.

Well, if you consider finding love with a right swipe and a dating app romantic that is.

The sometimes sweet, but mostly bizarre and sometimes creepy profiles of Tinder users were Kelly’s lyrics.

A foot fetish and a hairless cat lover became the basis for some amazing tunes. No seriously, she nailed it.

We’re not sure if anyone aside from Kelly could actually pull this off, but she did a seriously impressive job.

The folks behind Tinder had a major meltdown on Twitter last night, in response to a Vanity Fair article published this week.

The offending piece, written by journalist Nancy Jo Sales, quotes a psychology professor who said that Tinder has a negative effect on males' view of monogamous relationships. According to the professor, "the impression that there are thousands or millions of potential mates” encouraged men to engage in 'a short-term mating strategy.'"

It also said in the article that Tinder is the cause of the rising number of divorces happening all over the world and the growing number of unstable relationships.

But an unidentified Tinder employee hit back at the journalist and the company in a never-ending series of epic tweets, It has to be seen to be believed….

Now THAT'S a rant and a half.

Lily Allen has just joined Tinder, although, it may not be for the reasons that you think.

The 20-year-old Smile songstress has admitted to using the app to help make new friends while out on the road.

Her profile reads, “I’m a touring artist wanting to meet people abroad who don’t want to talk about the industry formally known as entertainment.”

Ms Allen also proves that she is only using the site as a platonic means to make friends as she then states that she is, “married, [has] two beautiful girls, a massive mortgage and ridiculous schedule.”

This isn’t the first time the star has given the app a try either. In 2014, Lily tweeted saying “Just discovered tinder. *Waves goodbye to life*”.

Oh, we’ve been there too Lily!

And at least now with the verified accounts, if you do happen to stumble across Lily or any other celeb, you know you’re not being catfished!

Is it just us or does everyone find it completely enraging when you’re swapping messages with Zac Efron on Tinder and then realise, ‘doesn’t Zac have a model girlfriend right now?’

It’s number one on our list of daily annoyances. However, the good folks at Tinder are set to make this a problem of the past. Thank goodness!

Tinder is now introducing a new verification for notable people. That little blue check mark that lets you know you are officially reading Miley’s tweets is now going to be made available on Tinder too.

In a blog post for the app it said:

“Each day, 26 million matches are made on Tinder, and we do our best to keep those matches real –  that’s why we’re rolling out Verified Profiles,"

How thoughtful of them. We bet Hilary Duff probably would have made use of this not too long ago.

As of right now, the verification process isn’t available. So all of you will have to wait in anticipation before you go ensuring the powers that be at Tinder can make sure you’re actually swapping numbers with Drake and not some knock off reading inspirational quote from Pinterest.

In the same post Tinder stated that “you may see a verified symbol on some profiles. Now when notable public figures, celebrities and athletes appear in your recommendations, you’ll know it’s for real."

Great news! Because I’ve always wanted to know if that was the real Nick Jonas I matched with four months ago or not.

We’re also just really nosey and are looking forward to the screenshots of professional athletes attempting to woo some lucky ladies with their witty one liners.

This should be very entertaining.

Hilary Duff has been making some waves on social media lately, mostly because of her unfortunate Tinder fail on live radio not too long ago.

In an interview Pride Source, the former child star, now mom to son Luca, has gotten candid about her relationship status and her old acting gigs.

Hilary has discovered that the usual Tinder method is a little bit more difficult when you’re a recognisable face. Shocker. She said that previous experience has given her a bit of a reality check; “I don't know what it's like to be a totally normal girl.”

She also noted including her Tinder experience in her Sparks video was because of her “strive for normalcy in my life every day.”

Not surprising seeing as she was just 14 when she starred in the Disney Chanel series Lizzie McGuire.

She revealed that being Lizzie has been “torturous” at some points in her life.

Evidently it can become a bit stressful when your life becomes your work: “the writers all knew me so well and were writing things that were happening in my life.”

Trying to shake her alter ego took longer than Hilary expected and she opened up about how that wasn’t always easy for her: “four years, five years after that – and I was still Lizzie McGuire to people and that was super annoying.”

It looks like she’s made peace with her past now though, and taking a break from the Hollywood scene is what she credits to her staying power. After years of touring and making films she says she almost lost sight of who she was, and needed a break to put things in perspective.

“At some point I was like, "I don't even know if I'm that person anymore, and I don't even have the time to figure that out."

She seems to have it figured out by now, but she did not she wouldn’t like to a 14-year old in 2015: “I feel like even more so now than it was, your youth is totally taken away. You see these girls dressing like they're 20 when they're 14.”

Sounds like something Lizzie would say..

Is there anything more attractive than a big ole set of pearly whites?

They are definitely hard to beat, that’s for sure. And we are most certainly not the only ones who think so.

According to a recent study, nine out of ten Irish women are envious of someone else’s smile, while one in five say that a good smile is the first thing they notice in an online dating profile.

With the amount of people finding love online forever on the rise, nailing the picture perfect smile has never seemed so important.

The Seapoint Clinic’s study even revealed that a massive 95 percent of women suffer from smile envy while over two thirds of woman want whiter teeth.

But it’s not just women that get the green eyed monster when they see other people’s sparkling smiles – 52 percent of men also admitted to being jealous of other’s smiles while 48 percent wished that they had straighter teeth.

A staggering 88 percent of those who answered believed that having a good smile is vital to having overall confidence and self-esteem. Now, that is a LOT of pressure to put on our chompers.

And just who do we think has the best smile overall?

According to the survey, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has the winning smile with 58 percent while our own national treasure Amy Huberman came in second with 36 percent.

Are you a little tempted to see what you would look like with a Hollywood smile? The Seapoint Clinic constantly provide treatment to people who are unhappy with their smiles and with their new digital smile design technology they can give you a clear vision of how your new smile will look after treatment.

This woman who bravely went on a date with someone she met on Tinder actually wound up having a fairly alright time… Or so she thought.

While the date seemed to be a success, with the pair sharing an arm-in-arm stroll and even a kiss, it was the man’s next day response that caused Michelle Thomas to write him an open letter.

As much as we all give out about not getting the next-day-call, sometimes silence is golden.

This guy, simply known as Simon, felt the need to explain exactly why he wouldn’t be taking 30-year-old Michelle out a second time.

“You’re cheeky and funny and just the sort of girl I would love to go out with,” sounds like she’s ticking all the boxes so far, no? He continued, “if only my body and mind would let me. But I fear it won’t."

“I’m not going to bulls**t you… I f***ing adore you Michelle and I think you’re the prettiest looking girl I’ve ever met. But my mind gets turned on by someone slimmer.”

Is this guy actually serious?

Michelle’s open letter that she wrote in response illustrates all the great attributes that this *insert word of choice here* man mentioned, before he decided to comment on her weight.

Ms Thomas explains how Simon has a 13-year-old daughter and it is because of her that she wrote her letter.

“You stirred a dormant fear that every woman who was ever a teenage girl has. That it doesn’t matter how funny you are, how clever, how kind, how passionate, how loyal, how determined or adventurous or vibrant – if you’re a stone overweight, no one will ever find you desirable.”

She encourages the man to praise his daughter’s “intellect and her creativity.”

And oh, she also tell him that he can kiss her “exquisite, unmarriageable arse.”

If you've been single at any stage during the last two years you've no doubt given Tinder a go. And within five minutes, you probably realised that every guy you swiped left for fell into one of a few categories.

There's the lad who insists on only posting group photos, with no indication whether he's the semi-hot guy or the definitely-not-hot guy (meaning he's probably the latter). Then there's the gym buffs who only post mirror selfies of themselves topless and always mention their love of #gains.

And of course, we can't forget the creeps who are only here for the ride, and nothing else. Charming.

Youtuber Jessica Spencer has been giving Tinder dating a try herself lately, and we're loving her take on the world of online dating:

Sort yourselves out, lads!

Not entirely sure why everyone is surprised by the latest dating app to hit the market.

There’s something for every kind of preference out in the big bad world of internet dating. From beard lovers to sailor lovers, even people with foot fetishes are being catered for. There was just one giant gaping hole in the market: a dating site for dog lovers.

Fear not! Tindog has arrived, and the ‘puppy love’ puns are only going to get worse.

Who hasn’t spent a Saturday night doing the Netflix and chill routine with their canine companion and thought, “If only me and Rover could find love online”.

Any good dog owner surely feels that obligation to ensure their four-legged friend finds their soulmate, did Lady and the Tramp teach you nothing?

And now, you can. Tindog is essentially the same as it’s more humanist sister app, except it’s targeted at dog owners. Get thee to the nearest Italian for spaghetti and meatballs, immediately.

Instead of spending hours swiping left or right trying to figure out who’s your match from a cryptic group profile photo, you get to stare at puppies all day. And night, if you’re so inclined.

Most of the users are going to be completely naked, fair warning. But that’s expected- they are dogs after all.

It feels like a winner for a lot of lonely souls with cute pooches out there, because who could swipe left on an adorable Husky pup? Or what about all the Pug lovers out there?

Doggie lovers are going to be all over this, we can feel it.

Founder and CEO (and absolute genius) Julien Muller said in a press release:

“Dogs bring so much joy and love, that they really have the power to connect us. That’s why we wanted to make it easy for dog lovers to meet new people.”

Just like Tinder, when Tindog users match, they can chat and arrange a pet play-date, or an actual date sans puppies.

But let’s be honest, there’s probably going to be a lot of guys borrowing their family pets for romantic strolls about town.
