In an industry utterly obsessed with body image, it's hardly surprising that the incessant scrutiny young actresses find themselves under on a daily basis can eventually take its toll.

Having clearly had her fill of ill-advised remarks pertaining to her appearance, Sarah Hyland decided to address the narrative before highlighting the misconceptions which have been made in relation to her size.

I hear all the kids are wearing chokers now a days. #criticschoiceawards

A post shared by Sarah Hyland (@therealsarahhyland) on

The 26-year-old Modern Family star took to Twitter yesterday to both silence her critics and provide her fans with an insight into the struggles she has endured over the last 12 months.

"I'd like to address something that has not only been brought up on Twitter, but has been HEAVILY discussed by all of you in my Instagram comments. That something is my weight."

Acknowledging that she generally seeks to ignore the dialogue, Sarah admitted that she felt compelled to address it this time around.

"Here goes… I haven't had the greatest year. Maybe one day I'll talk about it but for now I'd like my privacy. I will say this year has brought a lot of changes and with that physical changes.I have been told that I can't work out. Which for me is very upsetting."

Devastated that she has been prevented from training, Sarah continued: "I am not a fan of 'being skinny'".

Having been told to 'eat a burger' and that her 'head was bigger than her body', Sarah said she agreed with her critics, writing: "No one's head should be bigger than their body but considering I've basically been put on bed rest for the past few months, I've lost a lot of muscle mass."

While Sarah is determined to return to full health, she insists that she refuses to let the public's insensitive remarks get to her, writing: "I know that when I get clearance, I will be able to get back to the strong, lean and fabulous self I know I can be."

And in a move which illustrates Sarah's understanding of her vulnerability in the public eye, she concluded by writing: "My self confidence is not rendered from your comments."

"I will always be too fat. I will always be too skinny. I will never have enough curves to be called a real woman, And I will always be a slut for wearing a push up bra."

When you don't feel well you're supposed to post vain pictures of yourself correct?

Finishing by encouraging her fans to err on the side of positivity, she wrote: "Smile, Laugh, Love, Be happy. Support your peers. Love. Work hard. Be confident. Love."

Sarah's post has been inundated with supportive comments from fans who encouraged the actress to stay positive in spite of her poor health.

"You're such an inspiration! Sending positive vibes your way and a quick recovery," wrote one.

Sarah, who rose to fame playing Hayley Dunphy in the smash hit sitcom, had a kidney transplant in 2012.

It's been six years since the world watched Pippa Middleton's older sister make her way up the aisle at Westminister Abbey to marry Prince William.

And while Pippa made an impact all of her own the day she acted as bridesmaid to Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, the 33-year-old will take centre stage as the bride at her own wedding to James Matthews later today.

Much has been made about Pippa's big day; from the guest list to her bridal party, but like anything to do with the royal family and the plethora of high-profile names contained within its inner circle, not everyone is enthused by the constant coverage.

And as a result, Twitter is, unsurprisingly, lit this morning, with some members of the public only dying to share in the excitement and others… well… not so much.

In a move which Imgur user, KrissyKross, hoped would help bring closure to years of domestic abuse, she shared a series of texts she received from her partner during their marriage.

Now divorced, KrissyKross explains that she kept the screenshots of the messages to remind herself how far she had come, and ultimately decided that she was ready to share her experience online.

"My ex-husband was a kind, loving man. That is, until I lost weight (at 5'3" and over 200lbs, it was sort of necessary.) I then got a job," she wrote on the post.

"Suddenly I was cheating, I lost weight to get men, I couldn't buy clothes that fit me after the 80 pounds lost because it showed off my body."

"He hit me and sexually assaulted me. He waited outside my work for whole shifts, not telling me if he was carrying the Beretta M9 he had purchased recently," she confided.

"I wanted to go out with two (female) coworkers for my 23rd birthday. I told him weeks in advance and when the time came he punched me in the face and slammed my head into the floor, only leaving me alone because he had duty that evening. I tried to go to the police in the middle of the night, he tailgated me the whole way."

"I tried to talk to his parents and they told me it was normal in a young marriage and I should reassure him. His father is a pastor in Tennessee and holds this belief."

KrissyKross explains that her decision to leave came after her husband harmed her pets, writing: "While he was at work I packed a bag, my pets, and their food and hid at a coworker's house and called NCIS and the police."

"I spent hours getting bruises photographed, giving my statement, waiting while they put him on restriction."

Giving Imgur users an insight into the events that followed, KrissyKross wrote: "He was charged with a handful of misdemeanors and two felonies. I accepted his guilty plea bargain for 8 months in the Miramar brig on the condition that the felony charges be dropped. The judge wanted to give him 10."

Thankfully, she is doing well today and reflects on her marriage as a time of growth and courage.

"This isn't really a sob story; I'm really proud of what I've done on my own. I just wanted to share for possibly some closure since I never really got that I save these text messages to remind myself how far I've come, not to cry over."

For many women, navigating leers and catcalls is part and parcel of daily life, and while the vast majority are regrettably left to deal with harassment by themselves, we'd like to assume that if they do reach out for assistance, they will be properly supported.

However, one woman's recent encounter on public transport reminded Twitter users that unfortunately this isn't the case.

After enduring a particularly distressing encounter with a man who began 'rubbing his crotch' after she deflected his advances on a bus, Nathalie Gordon left her seat and approached the bus driver for assistance.

Frightened she explained what had happened to the driver, telling Twitter users: "I tell him that a man is rubbing himself on the bus. The driver, a man, says 'he probably isn't – sit somewhere else'."

Nathalie, understandably stunned by the driver's disregard, replied: "Remove him from the bus, call the police – I don't care'."

And in a move which has caused uproar on Twitter since Nathalie shared an insight into her experience, the driver replied: "What do you expect me to do? You're a pretty girl, what do you expect?"

In a series of tweets which have gone viral since their upload, Nathalie laid out, in no uncertain terms, exactly what she wanted from the driver in that situation.

Unsurprisingly, Twitter users have responded in their droves since Nathalie took to the website to voice her concerns, with hundreds of women sharing similar experiences online.

"If you ever see me on public transport or anywhere in London and you feel vulnerable, find a way to tell me & I promise I'll stand with you," Nathalie wrote in response to her supporters.

We’ve had the thigh gap, the thigh brow and now the Internet has ever so kindly brought us a new thigh-centred challenge: Introducing #MermaidThighs.

Designed to counteract the controversial thigh gap which has been doing the rounds for the last two years, the mermaid thighs movement is based on the idea that the more your thighs touch the closer you are to looking like a mermaid.

Women around the world have been sharing images of their touching thighs on social media in a bid to promote a sense of body positivity for those whose thighs do not fulfil the criteria of the thigh gap test.  Additionally they’ve been posting images of Disney’s Ariel as well as numerous mermaid thighs quotes.

But while the trend is supposed to be body positive and in some respects could been seen as the antidote to the thigh gap – which was widely viewed as a dangerous challenge – the mermaid thighs movement is not without its critics.

While some Twitter users have taken to the forum to celebrate the mermaid thighs message with comments like “this is my fav thing on the internet.  Bless whoever made this trend,” others have dubbed the tag “ridiculous” because in a sense it is as exclusive as the thigh gap trend.

One woman tweeted “I may not have a thigh gap but my thick thighs make me closer to a mermaid than you twig b*tches” – a comment which is clearly as exclusive as it is celebratory.

Just chuck me in the sea now. #mermaidthighs

Today and yesterday, #IrishUpAMovieOrActor started to trend on Twitter, and while we knew we'd get a few laughs from it, we didn't expect comedy GOLD.

Many took to the social media site to Irish up some of our beloved movies, and as simple as the changes are, we kinda wish that they were real movies, because we'd totally watch them.

Here, we picked our top 10 that will put a smile on your face and make you forget the horrible rain outside:

1. All roads lead to Belfast

2. A nod to the former Taoiseach

3. And the ever popular, Father Ted

4. Because the Nite Link in Dublin can be mega scary sometimes

5. We prefer Cate Blanchett's new name

6. Sounds better, right?

7. Now, this would be brilliant

8. Because not everyone in Ireland can…

9. Feck is as common an Irish word as potato

10. A cute pig doing a jig? This NEEDS to happen

The Christmas season definitely gives us an excuse to go over the top with our party outfits. Because if you can't do it at Christmas then when can you do it?

We love a bit of festive sparkle but there is definitely a fine line between festive fierce and festive fail.

So let the celebs show you how to sparkle in the style stakes.

1) The showstopper

If you go for a show stopping sequin piece like KStew, it goes without saying that you can keep the accessories muted. Pair with a simple pair of platforms or court shoes in fabrics that are not too shiny.

2) The perfect sequin dress

It's out there! So hunt it down. Not all sequin dresses are skin tight and gold, there's a huge variety of patterns and colours to enjoy.

3) Dress it down

Make like Millie and pair a slinky sequin number with boots for an essence of casual cool.

4) Be on the nose

Who said you can't to wear red, gold or green sequins at Christmas. Do it right and we promise you won't look like a festive ornament.

5) Think outside the box

Don't shy away from a eclectic sequined style, because the quirkier the better we say!

We have never quite known fringe envy until Kendall Jenner rocked up to the AMAs with perhaps the most covetable bangs we have ever seen.

And just as were about to make an impulsive trip to the hair salon (which we would have ultimately regretted!), we learned that Kendall did not go for the chop and instead just faked her look with some ingenious hair styling.

This week, Perrie also tried to lull us into going for some illustrious bangs but her perfect up do was also faked.

So how can you achieve the ultimate set of bangs without the commitment? Well all you need is some bobbins, hair pins and patience!

Somebody help. Japan is taking over me.

Grab a bobbin and pull your into a high pony. Take half of your pony and pull it over the bobbin towards your face. Pin the hair securely on the top of your head, creating a half bun.

Leaving the ends to frame your face, split the remaining hair in the ponytail in two and wrap around the half bun you created. Pin the bun as desired.

Lastly, just style your fringe!

If you are still struggling, check out this super easy tutorial below.

Remember the ice bucket challenge? Well, there is a new challenge in town and it involves your favourite form of contraception.

Yep, we are here to inform you about the latest BIZARRE social media craze; the condom challenge.

Condom challenge jajaja #condomchallenge #cool #follow #fun #funny #humor #lmao #lol #tagsforlikes #video

A video posted by Condom Challenge™ (@condomchallengetv) on

Hmm, we can't imagine celebs getting on board with this one.

The latest challenge involves participants dropping a water-filled condom onto the head of a friend or partner.

Why you ask? Well, while the ice bucket challenge raised awareness for ALS, the #condomchallenge is looking to promote safer sex.

The purpose of the challenge is to demonstrate that if a condom laden with water can fit around someone's HEAD and not break, there is really no excuse for unsafe sex.

Oh and also because it is hilarious to watch.

The trend was first spotted last week and has since gained serious momentum as thousands of videos have been posted to various social media sites.

And it would seem that many can see the positives of the challenge.

Make sure you take care if trying it at home!

Do you this it's absolutely stupid or will you be taking up the challenge?

Last night, the news arrived that RTÉ are revamping the Angelus.

Instead of the staring into space we have become so used to after fifty years, we are going to be introduced to a series of one minute broadcasts before the Six One news.

Some of the stars of the new Angelus include a baker, a sculptor, and a book binder and restorer from Athlone.

So, gone be with the days of someone in an Aran jumper watching a candle flicker in silence. Perhaps they might give this aspiring musician a second chance.

Spin 1038 asked their Fully Charged listeners to tweet their suggestions for what should feature in the new and improved Angelus. The suggestions were hilarious and #StickItInTheAngelus has been trending for most of the day.

These are just some of the best:

1. The most timely suggestion:

2. Lest we forget:

3. An Irish institution:

4. A great moment in history:

RTE Ice Tumblr

5. Or any of the many instances when Irish horses thought they were people:

6. The glory days of the quiff:

7. The unspoken favourite hobby:

RTÉ Genre Head of Religious Programmes, Roger Childs, said:

“We are delighted to announce the six newly-commissioned films and The People’s Angelus slot on Fridays and hope that the Angelus will continue to afford people of all faiths and none some quiet space in a hectic day-to-day world.”
