After 56 years on the box, Coronation Street is, undoubtedly, an institution in the UK and Ireland.

And yet despite their decades of experience, bosses behind the Manchester soap still find themselves on the wrong side of the public from time to time.

Case in point: Monday's episode of the long-running soap.

During a scene in the street's salon Eva Price, played by Catherine Tyldesley, made reference to an enslaved character from novel and TV mini-series Roots, saying: "I've got more roots than Kunta Kinte."

"No idea who that is, by the way, just something my mum used to say," the character added.

Viewers took to Twitter in their droves to express their disgust that Kunta Kinte – a young man taken from Gambia and sold as a slave –  was the subject of such a throwaway remark.

"So what’s up with the cultural insensitivity on Coronation Street? ‘I got more Roots than Kunta Kinte’ That’s kinda racist," wrote one while another added: "Really Coronation Street? I think you need to have a word with the scriptwriter!"

In addition to voicing their opinions on Twitter, almost 300 people reported the scene to television watchdog Ofcom who said: "We will assess these complaints before we decide whether to investigate or not."

Acknowledging the public's distaste for the scene, a spokeswoman for the soap said: "We apologise if this dialogue has caused offence."

Look, we all know Geordie Shore's Gaz has a lot to to learn when it comes to his treatment of women.

And while his Twitter bio argues "I do what every other lad does… I just do it on TV", we're not convinced every other lad would post a message to a female reality star suggesting she's akin to a prostitute.

After learning that TOWIE star, Chloe Sims, had slammed him in a column for New magazine, Gaz firstly decided to let her know he couldn't care less what she thought of him.

Sharing a screengrab of her recent tweet, he wrote: "F*cks sake, Another crying myself to sleep tonight… This just hurts me so much."

So far, so relatively diplomatic, right?

But instead of leaving it at that, the Geordie lad decided to go one step further by posting an image referring to Chloe which read: "Gold Digger: Like a hooker, only smarter."

Calling her out for the second time that night, the 28-year-old reality star wrote: "Let's not argue… I want to take this opportunity to wish you all the best with your new documentary."

Unfortunately for Gaz, not everyone was impressed with his snarky dig.

"Wow Gaz. You're actually vile," wrote one while another added: "Hardly a gold digger either, self made, independent, mother and you've put that out for her daughter to see. Wrong dude."

We doubt the feedback will have any effect on Gaz though…

When you're a reality TV star, stuff can get pretty damn confusing.

Is this actually happening? What show am I on? Is sex appropriate right now? Sure, the list of concerns is endless – just ask Marnie Simpson.

After appearing on This Morning earlier today, the Geordie girl admitted that at times during her stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house she struggled to remember where she was and who she was with.

No, seriously.

Explaining why her behaviour sometimes seemed a little outrageous, Marnie explained: "I went straight from Geordie into there and I was still in my Geordie ways and I forgot that group of people wasn't my Geordie group of people and there were boundaries and sometimes I crossed them."

From flashing Saira Khan to antics in the shower with Lewis, the 24-year-old insists it all came down to her Geordie Shore roots.

"Maybe I'd had a little bit too much to drink, but that type of stuff is really acceptable on Geordie Shore, so when I'm drunk, I just assumed it would be then, but it clearly wasn't."

And while Marnie, who came fourth in the series, was involved in some of the most controversial storylines in this series of CBB, she insists the public has the wrong impression of her.

"When I came out, I was really upset because I saw people saying I'm a bully and that's completely not true," she told This Morning hosts.

Referring to the moment she gave Saira Khan an eyeful, Marnie explained: "It was supposed to be a harmless joke to lighten the mood, because there was a lot of tension in there."

"If you were there, you could feel it. It wasn't a very nice place to be," she said.

Ah yeah, happens to the best of us.

Working out beside an overly enthusiastic gym bunny is one thing, but working out beside the dancer from Kanye West's Fade video is a different story entirely.

Toned beyond all belief and more taut than an elastic band, Teyana Taylor is the woman we're sure we could be if only 23-hour-a-day workouts appealed to us.

Proving that these uber-fit, super-talented people aren't all they're cracked up to be, James Corden recently gave an insight into the horror of sharing a gym space with them.

And the internet is all over it.

Clocking up more than 24,000 hits since its upload to YouTube last night, the Late Late Show host can be seen asking Teyana to dial it down a bit before becoming somewhat hypnotised by her moves.

And in fairness, who wouldn't?

If you thought Stephen Bear was torn between two women, you're very much mistaken.

But it's not that he's suddenly declared himself a one-woman man, and turned his back on fellow CBB housemate, Chloe Khan, in an effort to rekindle his romance with former girlfriend Lillie Lexie Gregg.

Oh no, not Bear.

He has, in fact, got his eyes on yet another reality TV star… well, he does if Laura Carter's recent interview with The Sun is anything to go by, that is.

The reality star, who made headlines for her raunchy on-screen antics with Marco Pierre White Jr, during her own stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house has revealed that Stephen Bear has shown more than a passing interest in her.

Opening up about an encounter they had in the past, Laura said: "We met on a night out, spent the night kissing and were all over each other and then carried on messaging each other for a while."

"He kept telling everybody in the club I was a 10/10 and he had to get with me," she revealed.

"I ended up leaving quite early to go to bed that night and he then showed up at my door at 6am with some friends," she explained, "I’d just woke up and he was on his knees begging to come in for a booty call."

Offering more details than anyone with a delicate stomach might want, Laura insisted that she won't be drawing a line under the episode.

"We haven’t done anything too sexual yet, that’s all I’m saying. I will be getting in touch with him," she insisted.

And now if you'll excuse us, we'll be dry-heaving in a corner.

In the words of Chandler Bing: It's awkward, oh it's awkward.

If you're the type of person who would rather chew their own arm off than watch anything even remotely awkward unfold, then you may want to sit this one out.

But for the rest of you who like watching celebrities in tricky positions, you may want to feast your eyes on the moment Nicole Scherzinger decided to completely blank a question referring to fellow X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.

Not once, but twice.

While being interviewed at the X Factor launch yesterday, Nicole made it pretty clear  – without saying a word – that she wasn't here to talk about the Geordie gal.

And even after helpfully rattling off Cheryl's full name, the reporter was left with a former popstar who looked like she'd rather be anywhere else at that moment.

Watch through your fingers if you must, ladies.

Celebrity Big Brother has been accused of straight-up fakery for years now, but it looks like recently leaked footage seems to prove that this is indeed the case.

And viewers are fuming,

In a live feed which went out last night, the contestants can be seen getting into bed and saying goodnight to each other before Big Brother takes to the Voice of God booth and calls an end to the day's activities.

And like good little housemates, they all stay in bed… until the lights are turned on moments later and they get up and congratulate each other on a 'good take'.

Big Brother then offers the housemates some advice on their pre-eviction prep and the contestants go out about their business.

And for many viewers, it's like discovering the world is flat.

Take a look.

Look, we've all done things our parents would be ashamed of.

Thankfully, in most cases, they don't tend to learn of our worst indiscretions, but that's because they haven't been broadcast to millions…. that we know of.

Stephanie Davis, on the other hand, had to deal with the fact her erratic behaviour in the Celebrity Big Brother house was beamed into millions of homes up and down the county – something which had a serious effect on her relationship with her mum.

Opening up on Loose Women, the actress and reality star, who is almost five months pregnant, admitted that her mother was stunned by her daughter during her time on the Channel 4 show.

Explaining that she and her mother had spoken the night before, Steph revealed she apologised. saying: "I’m so sorry for what I’ve put you through."

"That was probably the worst time, when I came out of the house. In that house she saw me like she’d never seen me before," the former Hollyoaks star told the audience.

"She saw someone, completely different. It was overwhelming," she added before admitting that while her mother waited for her on Eviction Night, she went off with Jeremy for the night.

When it was suggested that her mum might have been ashamed of her, Steph dismissed it but acknowledged there was a definite feeling of disappointment.

"Maybe not ashamed, but I think she was disappointed, ‘what’s happened to my Steph? that’s not you’." she said.

The classic "I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed' is almost as bad as the 'Get out of my sight, I can't even LOOK at you right now."

This year's Rose of Tralee was definitely one of the more talked about in recent years.

From the Sydney Rose's impassioned speech to the Fathers4Justice on-stage protest, Twitter was awash with Rose of Tralee mentions, and viewers tuned in in their millions to witness the crowning of the contest's 58th Rose.

And while it seems that this year's contest helped change people's stance of the long-running pageant, a recent Facebook post may do much to reverse public opinion.

Taking to social media, Down Rose, Fainche McCormack, who didn't make it to the live final, shone a light on aspects of the process to which viewers weren't privy, and it doesn't make for easy reading.

In a now deleted post, Fainche wrote: "The Rose of Tralee was honestly the most amazing experience of my life, until Sunday morning."

"I, and my fellow rose sisters, did not sign up for a cheap reality television show in which our emotions would be manipulated for entertainment purposes, nor did we sign up to be treated like animals in the circus and held in a room against our will."

"Cameras intrusively followed us all week and asked inappropriate probing questions; asking one girl what colour underwear she was wearing right before she went on stage, what's acceptable about that?" Fainche asked.

"I could go on for days about the many ways we were manipulated, bullied and mistreated; However, up until a certain point, the Rose of Tralee was the experience of a lifetime, every part of a little girl's dream," she continued.

Calling the organisers out on their disregard for contestants Fainche added: "It's just a shame that television viewing numbers became more important that the truly amazing girls that got hurt and that now have to deal with the emotional trauma of the whole, quite frankly disgusting and cruel, ordeal."

"None of us signed up for a cheat reality television show and now unfortunately the Rose of Tralee is an experience I will never forget, for all the wrong reasons." she finished in a post which has sent social media into overdrive this morning,

Acknowledging Fainche's concerns, CEO of the festival, Anthony O'Gara, suggested that her position in the contest may have acted as a catalyst for the post.

"We been running regional finals for the past 10 years and we always get strong reactions from the Roses that don't get through. We understand people are disappointed and this year wasn't any different."

And yet despite this, Mr. O'Gara accepted that issues had been raised about Sunday morning's filming, saying: "The manner in which the extra TV show, The Road to the Dome, was finished was insensitive and we didn't anticipate that."

"We wouldn't like to see it repeated and we apologised to the Roses and they accepted that." he insisted.

Unlike Justin Bieber who feels every selfie with a fan is an affront to his humanity, Gaten Matarazzo of Stranger Things fame loves nothing more than being asked for a snap.

So much so, he has begun devoting his own Instagram account to photographs of fans only delighted to have grabbed a shot with the young actor.

Earlier this week, Gaten, who plays Dustin, announced his good intentions online, writing: "I'm starting a new thing."

"Every fan that stops me and asks me to take a picture with them, I will ask them to take a picture with me because they mean as much to me as I mean to them," he wrote in a post which has everyone at SHEmazing! HQ whimpering into their hands.

The Kardashians themselves accept that had there been no sex tape, there would have been no reality TV show.

Turning what many considered a PR disaster completely on its head, astute businesswoman, Kris Jenner, harnessed her second oldest daughter's infamy into a multi-million dollar empire.

And while Kim may have her mother to thank for creating her career, the same can't necessarily be said for Kris' two youngest daughters, Kendall and Kylie.

Filmed from a young age, the Jenner sisters had little say in the matter, but unlike their older sisters, their current careers aren't based solely on reality TV, with both of them having branched out in other directions.

With Kendall making waves in the world of modelling and Kylie devoting much of her time to her cosmetic line, insiders say it's only a matter of time before the Jenner girls break free, and it sounds like Kylie is with them on that one.

According to Star magazine: "Kendall‘s got her modelling career, and Kylie would rather focus on her lipstick and cosmetics lines. They don’t need the show to survive."

"Kylie is so sure of herself that she recently dissed Kim, telling her big sister she was more famous now," they added.

Will Kris loosen the leash, though?!
