Apparently the royal family are just like the rest of us! They love watching TV too, we knew it couldn’t be all grand tea parties and walks with the corgis.

Queen Elizabeth is a massive Downton Abbey fan, obviously.

According to the Telegraph the Queen “loves Downton Abbey”. However, she also “likes to spot historical mistakes” in the series.

Brian Hoey, the author of At Home with the Queen revealed that the series came up in conversation with a worker at Buckingham Palace.

“We were talking about Trooping the Colour and how the Queen always notices if anything is not quite right, such as one young officer she spotted wearing his medals in the wrong order not long ago.”

The eagle-eyed royal also takes this attention to detail to her favourite television shows too:

“She loves watching Downton Abbey and pointing out things they have got wrong, partly because she is familiar with Highclere Castle, where it is filmed. She used to stay there as a guest of the Carnarvon family.”

Amongst the royal family the Queen is not the only Downton fangirl. Kate Middleton is apparently also a “huge” fan and makes William watch it with her.

While Prince Charles is apparently said to not be as keen on Downton the Queen also has some other favourites to choose from.

In 2011 she was reported to have told Mary Byrne, a former X Factor contestant, that she has her staff record every episode.

Megan Fox is one of Hollywood’s big-hitters when it comes to big earnings… and it seems that she’ll have to cough up big too when it comes to marital breakdown.

On Friday, it was announced that the 29-year-old is set to divorce fellow actor 42-year-old Brian Austin Green; her husband of five years, the father of her two children, and the man she’s spent more than a decade with.

Mr Green has been working fairly steadily since the mid-Eighties, mainly on TV shows such as Beverly Hills 90210, CSI, Smallville, and Desperate Housewives. However, his roles have never come anywhere near those of Ms Fox – who has starred in the likes of Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

And a terrible car-crash seems to be the reason Brian will never be able to match her six- and seven-figure earnings.

Indeed, he has worked very little this year – an involuntary hiatus reportedly caused by a head-on collision he was involved in last December.

Brian, who was travelling in the car with Megan at the time, was hit by a drunk driver who was later arrested. The other car was moving at around 80km/h at the time, and the impact deployed the airbags in the Fox-Green vehicle.

And although Megan was unhurt in the incident, it did trigger a serious medical condition in Brian: vertigo – which affects balance.

Apparently Mr Green's vertigo is so bad he can't get out of bed, and can therefore no longer work.

All of which means: Megan will be looking at paying a generous monthly spousal allowance when the pair do divorce.

As an aside: we wonder what impact his condition has had on their marriage? The couple also has two sons too – a three-year-old and an 18-month-old – something which must only add to the pressure being put on their strained relationship.

Whatever the reasons behind their separation,  however, we reckon we’ll be seeing a lot more of the actress at the box-office from next year.

Each week we speak to an inspiring go-getter as part of our Rising Stars series.

Here, singer Roberta Howett joins us to candidly talk about the very first X Factor, about the undeniable glamour of the industry – and going it alone…

Most people will have attended the likes of Oxegen and Glastonbury at some point in their lives… but not everyone can say they took to the stage and played to the tens of thousands in attendance there.

But then, Dublin-born singer Roberta Howett isn’t like most people.

Throughout the course of her music career, the 33 year-old London-based beauty has become more than familiar with playing to sold out arenas. Her stage presence is as natural as her powerful voice… something recognised by none-other than Simon Cowell when she took to the very first X Factor stage 11 years ago.

She made it through to the live finals, her subsequent departure leaving even her mentor Sharon Osbourne in floods of tears.

At least, and unlike many who took to The X Factor stage after her, Roberta has since gone on to develop a highly successful career in the industry.

A gifted songwriter with a powerful voice, her latest single, Broken Wings, certainly impresses.

The lyrics, which rally against those who judge people for choosing to be single, have already become the war cry of a load of singletons.

And while the music industry is cutthroat at the best of times, but Roberta admits that it is also fun, and at times quite glamorous.

“You get to dress up and sing to lots of people which feels incredible!” she smiles. “But another great part to it is that feeling when you write a good song, and you get to collaborate and create something from scratch.”

With her wealth of experience, Roberta is well-placed to offer advice on whether or not it’s a good idea for a budding singer to kick-start their music career on a TV talent show, a topic that has caused divide among music-lovers since the birth of such shows.

“I say go for it!” she enthuses. “It’s another opportunity and it could lead you somewhere really interesting. You can certainly meet great people that are in the industry already.

"It is a television show though rather than a music show, so keep that in mind.”

The one thing that has stood to Roberta throughout her career is her penchant for hard work.

When she produced and released music independent of any label, she took care of all the logistics – from music licencing, to management and legal matters.

So does she enjoy the hard work that comes with musical independence, or would she prefer the security of a label, the downside of which can sometimes include having very little musical control? Well… she’s torn between the two.

“It’s not as tricky as it seems to release,” she begins. “But there is some multi-tasking involved. I think having a label could be a great thing, especially to share the load a bit, but on the other hand, it’s also nice to be able to work to your own agenda and choose the direction.”

Given her success to date, SHEmazing! wouldn’t be surprised if in years to come, Roberta found herself back in TV talent show land, not as a competitor however, but as a mentor.

Ed Sheeran is going to be back in our lives more often than we thought. After this weekend’s incredible performances at Croke Park it is safe to say that our nation is pretty much all about Ed.

The news confirming his role on new TV series The Bastard Executioner is sure to cheer some people up if they find themselves missing the Grammy nominee already.

Ed, 24, will take on the role of Sir Cormac who is said to be “an ambitious and deadly protégé of a high-ranking church elder”.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the new FX drama has been created by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter.

The ''blood-soaked medieval epic” is one that “tells the story of a 14th century warrior whose life is forever changed when a divine messenger beseeches him to lay down his sword and lead the life of a journeyman executioner''.

Sounds interesting! Certainly not what we’re used to coming from Ed. Stephen Moyer and Katey Sagal are also set to appear in the show.

Katey also appeared in Sons of Anarchy, which Ed was a huge fan of even recording a cover of Foy Vance’s Make It Rain for the series penultimate episode.

Ed has previously said the role is “really, really dark” and “gruesome”. Apparently he didn’t even have to audition! According to The Sun Ed managed to talk his way into the role:

''He had a musician in his last show and I said, 'Oh did he audition for that?' And he said 'No, but I just thought he would be good in it.' So I said, 'Can you put me in your show next?'''

It won't be the first time Ed has appeared on screen as earlier this year he took a trip to Summer Bay for a cameo on Aussie soap Home and Away.

Oh, Spencer! When will you learn?

On last night's epic Made In Chelsea Mr Matthews was once again unmasked as a big cheat – a revelation (if we can call it that) which then prompted his girlfriend Lauren Hutton to throw her drink over him.

Yes, at a recent house-party thrown by Jamie Laing, Spencer ended up kissing another woman. Ouch. Needless to say, Lauren wasn't over the moon about his indiscretion.

“You’re such a f***ing ridiculous excuse of a human being,” she told him, clearly devastated.

“You’re so ridiculous. I didn’t want to be with you – it took me so long to try and make myself think, ‘OK, that guy is not a f***ing joke’… [but] you are!”

Spenny tried to defend himself by saying “it’s not fair” – supposedly because he “tried so hard”.

In response (and no, we can't say we'd blame her) Lauren glared at him for a few seconds before quietly throwing her champagne in his face.

Waste of good champagne? Quite possibly…

Still, given that the episode was filmed several weeks ago, and considering the duo have been all lovey-dovey on social media since, it seems she's already forgiven him.

If, like us, you ignored your standard FOMO and decided to catch up on some Saturday night telly last night, then you may have been witness to one of this week's most awkward telly moments.

Appearing on the Saturday Night Show with Brendan O' Connor, Minister for Equality, Aodhán Ó' Ríordáin, was happily chatting away when he was interrupted by the Cork native and asked to remove the pin on his collar.

Looking momentarily stunned by the host's request, Aodhán rallied and agreed, but not before revealing that the pin was a 'yes' pin, which is being used by the Yes Equality campaign in the run-up to the same-sex marriage referendum.

The incident, however, was not left there, with members of the public taking to Twitter to express their disbelief that the minister was asked to remove the pin in the first place, with one user commenting: "O'Riordain being asked to remove that pin is as crazy as if the Archbishop of Dublin was asked to remove a crucifix. Beyond bizarre #PinGate."

In a show of good humour, the minister tweeted a photo of himself following his appearance on the popular chat show and asked: "Anyone have a spare 'yes' pin? Gave mine away & need it for Marriage Equality rally with @lgbtNOISEin Merrion Sq at 2pm tomorrow. #MarRef."

While we celebrated the wonder that is our lovely Irish mammies back in March, our pals across the pond are paying tribute to their mums this weekend and like any family celebration, it can be adorable and awkward in equal measure.

Kicking off celebratory events was the gorgeous Reese Witherspoon who hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend and encouraged cast members to take a walk down memory lane with their beloved mothers.

From bedwetting to interesting uses for vibrating devices, the SNL team left no stone unturned when they thanked their mums for sticking by them through thick and thin, no matter how weird things got.

Inspired by the always hilarious SNL cast, we've decided to follow suit and apologise to our mothers for our equally misspent youth.

Mam, we're really really sorry for smashing that dinner plate because you wouldn't buy us pink velour tracksuit bottoms to go with our fake Ugg books and knock-off Jucy Couture handbag.

Forgive us?

Fans of The Simpsons can rejoice – two brand new series of the long-running animated hit have been commissioned.

Fox has confirmed that a 27th and 28th season are in the offing – meaning the show will boast a total of 625 episodes.

The Simpsons is now 26 years old, and has won multiple awards. A wide-range of merchandise is also attached to the brand, along with a feature-length film, numerous video games, and a Universal Studios theme-park ride.

The network’s announcement yesterday playfully stated that the show’s protagonist, Homer, had lasted so long because of his “costly 200-donut-a-day addiction".

Although some fans say The Simpsons, which was created by Oregan-native Matt Groening, is past its glory days, it still attracts solid viewing figures: Fox says 6.2m people are watching the current series.
