In a milestone moment yesterday, the Dáil passed legislation which will allow pubs to serve alcohol on Good Friday.

For 90 years, pubs and off licenses have been barred from selling alcohol meaning that the good folk of this country have been forced to stock up on Holy Thursday with all the fervour of people facing a siege.

The decision to remove the prohibition after almost a century has, unsurprisingly, been the talk of Twitter since the news broke yesterday afternoon.

From suggesting the move could help facilitate the creation of new drinking games to drawing comparisons to the Repeal the 8th debate, the good folk in the Twitosphere haven't held back.

Awkwardly deflecting the unwanted attention of strangers is a regular occurrence for many women on a night out.

Whether you're being pressed for your phone number or encouraged into accepting a drink, there are, unfortunately, many occasions when it seems like a simple no just isn't enough.

We become experts at proffering excuses, and regularly lament the fact that we feel obliged to thread on eggshells when attempting to communicate our disinterest in the exchange.

So, it's no surprise we often feel a surge of appreciation for anyone who helps to disengage us from such a situation as a recent tweet confirmed.

Amassing more than half a million likes in just five days, it's clear that the Twitosphere is here for any woman who helps another by interjecting when an attempted chat-up scenario is going quickly south.

Detailing an awkward exchange she had with a persistent male stranger, Twitter user, Amna, paid tribute to the woman who read the situation perfectly, and pretended to know Amna in an effort to bring the conversation to an end.

The tweet has clearly struck a chord with hundreds of thousands of people, with many women detailing their own experiences and providing their own advice.

"After the first refusal, if he persists it's time to DROP being polite," advised one Twitter user. "You aren't required to be polite to creepers or fear being thought rude."

"Be firm, be loud for all around to hear. Look him in the eye & say 'I SAID NO.' Then stop-don't say anything else. And don't apologise!"

No sooner had the dust settled on the news of Anna Faris and Chris Pratt's separation, rumours began circulating that Chris' co-star, Jennifer Lawrence, played a role in the demise of the couple's ten-year relationship.

While those rumours were swiftly dismissed, news of Chris' decision to file for divorce on December 1 gave rise to further rumour that the 38-year-old actor had entered into a new relationship with Olivia Munn.

Not content to allow media outlets to benefit from industry rumour, Olivia decided to reach out to Anna, and subsequently shared the details of their exchange on her Twitter page in a move which has garnered considerable praise on social media.

In a passionate post written earlier today, 37-year-old Olivia sought to highlight the inaccuracy of the recent reports, writing: "Not every woman is scorned and upset after a break up."

"Not every woman is 'furious' at another woman for dating her ex," she continued. "Even if i was dating @prattprattpratt, some tabloids got me and @annakfaris all wrong."

"Women respect and love each other more than some people like to think," Olivia added, before sharing a screenshot of the conversation she had with Anna in the wake of the reports.

Contrary to the articles, the actresses appear to have nothing but mutual respect for each other, with Anna telling Olivia she loved her for reaching out.

"You are so sweet to text – I love you – having said that if you were my new sister in law I would be thrilled," Anna told Olivia after the latter confirmed she was not dating Chris.

The text has amassed almost 10,000 likes in mere hours, with one Twitter user writing: "This is just pure class."

"This is how we support each other: we reach out DIRECTLY. I get told I’m talked “about,” but being talked TO would have been much better," added another.

This day ten years ago, Hollywood went into mourning as the news of Heath Ledger's untimely passing made front-page headlines.

The Australian actor was just 28-years-old when he died of a cardiac arrest brought on by an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

The father-of-one, whose career had gone from strength to strength in the years leading up to his tragic demise, died alone in his Manhattan apartment in the early hours of January 22.

Loved by fans and lauded by critics, the impact the award-winning actor had in just ten short years on the film industry cannot be underestimated, with his final role in The Dark Knight securing him an Oscar, which was awarded posthumously.

It's been three weeks, so if you don't yet consider yourself a die-hard Derry Girls fan, you need to take a long hard look in the mirror.

Having debuted on January 4, the show was an instant hit, but as one corker doesn't make a series, we held our breath and crossed our fingers that the following episodes would retain the same standard as the pilot.

But they didn't. They surpassed it. 

From the super-tight script and the laugh-out-loud one-liners to the pop culture references and the classic 90s soundtrack, there seems to be nothing about this show that Twitter isn't here for.

And we'll be honest, if we're not watching Derry Girls, we're reading about it.

Fulfilling the wishes of a deceased family member is something we'd all endeavour to do if the situation arose, and Antonia Nicol's father was no different.

Following the death of his wife, Phedre Fitton, in 2013, Antonia's dad was under strict instructions to tend to her house plants – a task he took very seriously.

However, Antonia's poor dad was utterly oblivious to the fact that his late wife was busy trolling him from beyond the grave.

Taking to Twitter to share her late mum's sense of humour with the public, Antonia wrote: "Before my mum passed away, she gave my dad strict instructions to water the plants in the bathroom.He's been religiously watering them & keeping them alive."

But all wasn't as it seemed as Antonia revealed in the rest of her post, which  has been liked more than 100,000 in just two days.

"They look so amazing he decided to take them to his new home, only to discover they are plastic! Can hear my mum chuckling," she finished.

The tweet has struck a chord with thousands of people worldwide who recognised their own family members in Phedre's prank.

"There's something deeply human about it too," wrote one Twitter user. "I looked after my mum up to her passing and our humour was often jet black. Too easy to forget it. Thanks for sharing!"

"I lost my lovely mum last year, she was 85. But she would've loved that joke; my mum like yours had a wicked sense of humour," added another.

Antonia's parents were together since their teens.

If you gave Twitter even a passing glance in the hours that followed the first episode of Derry Girls last Thursday night, you'll know it went down an absolute storm.

And if you took a look today, you'd know that the nation is now officially obsessed with Channel 4's latest offering.

In fact, viewers are already calling for longer episodes of the comedy series which follows 16-year-old Erin and her band of mates as they navigate secondary school life under the watchful eye of the nuns, and to the backdrop of The Troubles.

Thankfully, confirmation has arrived that the series has already been commissioned to return for a second season, but we'll be honest, we want more than just that.

We want 60-minute episodes, we want a movie, we want to be best friends with Michelle…

As hard and all as it is to believe, there are people out there who have never actually watched Friends.

While the vast majority of us here at SHEmazing HQ have an encyclopaedic knowledge of all ten series, there are other people who have never actually understood the 'pivot' reference.

Eager to remedy this, Netflix announced that they had added each and every glorious episode to their streaming service, ensuring we were all on the same page when it can to the Manhattanites.

Diving head-first into a decade worth of trials and tribulations, new viewers have wasted no time sharing their thoughts on the six-piece, and it makes for some pretty interesting reading.

First Dates Ireland, a.k.a the crown jewel of RTÉ's winter schedule, made its highly-anticipated return to television screens across the country last night, and if the first episode is anything to go by, we're in for an outrageously awkward few months.

The first pairing of the night saw the larger-than-life Jackie, the owner of Dublin's Marilyn Monroe Mansion, get acquainted with quiet Carlow man, Joey.

No one would blame you for thinking these two were a bit of an odd match, but everything made sense when Joey's post-date interview revealed that he had been on the market for a 'Scary Spice.' 

Next up was arguably the show's most awkward pairing to date – Leigh and Samuel. 

Between calling his best friend a b*tch, to outright insulted his hairstyle, it was apparent from the beginning that Samuel wasn't feeling any connection. 

In fact, the whole date was just a train wreck, really.  

The biggest reaction of the night came courtesy of Niamh and Izzy. 

A seemingly decent match, Twitter just wasn't having it when Izzy, 22, just couldn't past the fact that Niamh, 19, was a fell THREE years younger than her. 

First Dates Ireland returns to RTÉ2 next Tuesday, January 16.

Chrissie Teigen has never made any secret of her disdain for the Trump family, and after nine years vocalising it, the Lip Sync Battle star was eventually blocked by Donald Trump on Twitter in July of last year.

‘LOL, no one likes you’ was her admittedly juvenile response to yet another ‘fake news’ rant by the POTUS,  but it was clearly the straw that broke the camel’s back.

And whether Chrissie hopes to elicit a similar response from his daughter Ivanka or not, she’s going the right away about if a recent tweet is anything to go by.

Contributing to the current narrative surrounding Oprah’s inspirational speech at Sunday night’s Golden Globes, Ivanka praised the veteran broadcaster and encouraged her followers to unite against sexism and harassment.

Given both her father’s reputation with regards the issue and her own dogged defence of his conduct, it’s hardly surprising many Twitter users felt somewhat irritated by Ivanka’s contribution, and this included Chrissie.

Responding to Ivanka’s tweek, Chrissie opted for another playground retort, writing: “Ew, Go away.”

The tweet has garnered a mixed response today, with some Twitter users questioning her disdain and others praising her stance.

“Further proof that liberals only support women that have their same political views. All other women be damned,” wrote one.

“Look at all these chumpettes trying to get angry at you, hilarious! You say ewww but their role model says grab their p******! And the girl you are being "mean" to doesn't support his accusers & has not helped women get equal pay. Keep going Chrissy!” wrote another in contrast.

In recent days, more Twitter users than ecver have been calling to censor the Twitter account of President Donald Trump.

The fresh wave of insistence comes after the POTUS posted a tweet directed at North Korean leader Kim Jung-Un. 

In the tweet, the US President compared the size of his nuclear power button to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s after the leader of North Korea stated in a New Year’s Day speech that he has a nuclear detonator button on his desk.

Trump chose to retaliate and remind the ‘food starved regime’ that he too has a ‘big and powerful’ button.

Twitter has responded to the criticism by saying that it will not silence the voices of world leaders.

'Elected world leaders play a critical role in that conversation because of their outsized impact on our society,' reads a post on Twitter's blog. 

'Blocking a world leader from Twitter or removing their controversial tweets would hide important information people should be able to see and debate.'

'It would also not silence that leader, but it would certainly hamper necessary discussion around their words and actions.'
