Given how likely it is you were in a food-induced coma during its slot, we feel obliged to tell you that Brooklyn was aired on RTÉ last night.

We also feel obliged to disclose that it was subsequently the subject of much discussion on Twitter.

From ex-pats admitting they were never too far from a Kleenex during Saoirse Ronan's performance, to disgruntled individuals lamenting their decision to sit through a sex scene in the presence of their parents, Twitter was a real mixed bag last night.

And if you want to be in a position to continue the discussion during the traditional Stephen's Day drinks later today, we suggest you throw your eye over our favourite tweets on the topic.

Warning: spoilers ahead.

Few family feuds have captured the public's attention quite like that of the Gallagher brothers.

Between all the sly digs and angry twitter spats, it's safe to say that Liam and Noel's relationship has seen better days.

However, it looks like the Christmas spirit may have got the better of the feuding siblings, with Laim revealing that the pair are on good terms once again.

The former Oasis frontman took to twitter to wish his brother a merry Christmas, saying how his was “looking forward” to seeing him tomorrow.

“I wanna say Happy Xmas to team NG it’s been a great year thanks for everything looking forward to seeing you tmorrow AS YOU WERE LG x,” he wrote.

Skeptical fans questioned whether or not the pair had actually reached a truce, with one user asking: “Your not going to have a meltdown on here come Christmas day are you Liam when NG doesnt reach out to you.”

To which Liam replied: “He's already reached out.”

So, could a possible reunion be on the cards?

We certainly hope so!

If you're a Vodafone customer and have encountered connection difficulties today, you are not alone.

Twitter users have been quick to flag the problem with the network this morning, and enquired into the team's progress rectifying the matter.

Vodafone have taken to Twitter to confirm that they are indeed experiencing technical issues this morning, and sought to assure customers that the matter is currently under investigation.

"Thanks for the tweet," they replied to one customer. "We’re aware of an issue that is impacting our customers’ ability to send and receive text messages."

Responding to requests for updates, a spokesperson for Vodafone wrote: "I can confirm that this issue is currently under investigation with our network crew, apologies for any inconvenience caused."

Earlier today, much-loved British comedian, Peter Kay, regretfully informed his fans that he is no longer in a position to honour his upcoming gigs, and has decided to cancel his tour.

"Due to unforeseen family circumstances I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects," he said of his Live Arena Tour and Dance for Life shows.

"My sincerest apologies," Peter continued. "This decision has not been taken lightly and I'm sure you'll understand my family must always come first."

Customers have been assured they will be refunded on their purchases, and while the vast majority of disappointed fans have taken to Twitter to wish Peter well, not everyone has been as sympathetic.

As opposed to focussing on Peter's family situation, some fans have taken a swipe at the star while others have lamented the inconvenience his announcement has caused.

Even up in the North Pole, sisters appear to be doing it for themselves.

When we think of the story of Christmas, Santa Clause and all his little helpers, someone who springs to mind as Santa's faithful sidekick is Rudolph.

The reindeer did, after all, save Christmas back in 1939 when fog was thick on the ground.

There's even a classic Christmas tune dedicated to the noble deed, in which Rudolph is referred to as a male.

However, a recent viral Twitter post is here to debunk the general assumption that Rudolph, and the other eight stags of the sky, are male.

Twitter user Cat Reynolds points out that male reindeer lose their antlers in winter, while female deer maintain their's until summer.

As Santa is always depicted with his entourage of antler wearing reindeer, this could mean that Rudolph and co are actually a squad of fierce females.

Scientists have even previously backed up this theory.

Physiologist Perry Barboza of the Institute of Arctic Biology, University of Alaska at Fairbanks, who studies reindeer and caribou, told Live Science that it appears that Santa's reindeer would be female.

A post shared by Elaine Karlsdatter (@ekarlsdatter) on

He told the science mag that female reindeer would also have an advantage over their male counterparts when being headhunted for the task.

This is because female reindeer have higher body fat percentage than males in winter, meaning that they would be better equip to maintain energy levels on a long journey and stay warm.

So that settles it – Rudoph is a badass chick trailblazing in the niche transport industry.

Congratulations are in order this morning as James Corden took to Twitter to celebrate the arrival of his third child with wife Julia Carey.

The British star, who is dad to six-year-old Max and three-year-old Carey, sounded utterly overwhelmed as he announced the family's newest addition to his legions of fans and followers.

"Today we welcomed a beautiful baby daughter into the world," he wrote in a post which has been liked more than 96,000 times in mere hours.

"Both she and her mother are doing great. We can’t stop smiling. Thank you Harry for stepping in to host the show at 2 and a half hours notice!"

Interestingly, many of James' followers seemed more interested in which 'Harry' the chat show host was referring to, with many crossing their fingers for a certain Mr Styles.

"James, you can’t just tweet this without specifying which harry you’re talking about (it better be styles)," wrote one while another added: "It better be Mr.Harry Styles or I’m never talking to you again."

Thankfully, some Twitter users knew to focus on James' bigger announcement, with one writing: "Congrats James!!! I’m glad she’s healthy and everything went well."

"I’ve been basically crying all day, finally pulled myself together," James said in response to the family's latest arrival.

Earlier today, disgraced NBC news anchor, Matt Lauer, issued an apology after allegations of sexual harassment were made against him by female colleagues.

Expressing remorse for his conduct, the Today host said he struggled to find words sufficient enough to communicate his regret.

"There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry," he said at the beginning of his statement.

Allowing himself a moment of introspection, the host then said he needed to take time to consider his behaviour and its implications.

"Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching and I’m committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full time job," he said.

However, social media users are far from impressed with his attempt at an apology, with many asserting he was sorry for getting caught, not sorry for his behaviour.

Some TV shows come out of nowhere, take you by complete surprise and ultimately knock your bloody socks off.

The Sinner is one of them.

Starring Jessica Biel, the uber-dark thriller seeks to understand why a seemingly stable young mum murders a young man without provocation during a trip to the beach with her husband and child.

Perfectly paced and utterly compelling, this eight-part series has set Twitter ablaze, with social media users only dying to contribute to the dialogue surrounding the production.

We mean, take a look at this…

Piers Morgan has accused Lily Allen of harassing him during a heated exchange about mental health.

In a series of tweets posted today, the pair argued over Piers' claim that actress Denise Welch has only accused him of not taking mental health seriously because she knew it would get her “in the papers.”

Her comments come after the Good Morning Britain presenter was criticised for his response to the news that Will Young had suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, when he said that the singer actually had a case of “WNTS – Whiny Needy Twerp Syndrome.”

“What he did by that statement was… you’ve got somebody who is just about to be prepared to talk about their condition because they’ve kept it a secret,” Denise said.

“What he did in that one tweet was he closed them down and said, ’Don’t do it, because we are going to take the f*cking piss out of you’. He shut all those people down who don’t have a voice.”

Lily was quick to defend the actress, tweeting: “Lol, that you think you’re so press worthy. I can think of a billion other ways @RealDeniseWelch could drum up some interest if she was that way inclined. Her incredibly successful son being one of them…”

However, things took a turn, when Piers replied with a picture of the singer appearing to touch his crotch, along with the caption, “I preferred you when you just harassed me in the flesh.”

Lily has yet to reply to the comment.

If you're a Great British Bake-Off fan, you'll be well aware that hours before the final episode was due to air last month, Prue Leith only went and accidentally revealed the winner on Twitter.

Abroad at the time, Prue found herself momentarily confused by the time difference and recalls thinking she was late to the game, and needed to congratulate the winner pronto.

"I was in Bhutan and I didn’t have any reception for a while so when I turned on my phone – and I was actually in a hotel where there was reception – there was this mass of tweets and one of them said ‘don’t forget to congratulate the winner after 10.30′," she told Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning.

"So I thought ‘oh, it’s past 10.30′ so I quickly tweeted… what I did… and as soon as it went out I thought ‘oh my god’ and then I went into a kind of panic mode where I couldn’t work my phone – I did not know how to delete it quickly and I couldn’t think."

Unsurprisingly, her mistake instantly went viral, with GBBO fans jokingly deriding poor Prue for her error.

And while most saw the funny side, Prue admitted that in the aftermath of her error, she felt suicidal.

"The thing that upset me most was that I thought that this would take attention off the winner and Sophie has worked for months and months for this moment – and the column inches are going to be about my tweet and not her triumph."

Poor ol' Prue. You can check out the full interview here.

P!nk has made no secret over the fact that she and fellow artist, Christina Aguilera, shared somewhat of a strained relationship in the past.

And while P!nk has spoken openly about the issue, she has insisted that neither she nor Christina hold any ill will towards each other these days.

Given her candour on the subject, it's perhaps no surprise the Stupid Girls singer has this week taken umbrage with the current speculation surrounding the pair.

Footage of P!nk's reaction to Christina's American Music Awards performance this week has been widely circulated, with the press and public quick to suggest that the pair's feud is far from dead and buried.

Honing in on P!nk's facial expression at the esteemed award show, social media users suggested that she was unimpressed with Christina's rendition of I Will Always Love You – something P!nk was quick to shut down on Twitter.

"Waking up to see a newly created riff between myself and another incredible woman, Christina, who took on an incredible feat, who I support fully, makes me so sad," she wrote in a post which has been liked thousands of times in mere hours.

Taking aim at those who contributed to the negative dialogue, P!nk added: "You all perpetuate keeping women apart b/c you're afraid of the power we have when we get together."

Agreeing with P!nk, one Twitter user replied: "We need positivity, equality & inspiration. Not negative bullshit to tear each other apart constantly. No wonder this world is in disarray."

Morrissey has condemned the decision to re-cast Kevin Spacey in a film following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Speaking to German newspaper Der Spiegel, the former Smiths frontman claimed the actor had been “needlessly attacked” and questioned the credibility of the accusations.

“I think that's ridiculous. As far as I know, he was in the bedroom with a 14-year-old,” he said.

Adding: “Kevin Spacey was 26, the boy 14. In that case, you ask yourself where the parents of the boy were?”

"You ask yourself whether the boy sensed what could happen."

"I was always aware of what could happen. If you're in somebody's bedroom, you need to be aware of where that could lead.

"Because of that, all of that doesn't seem very credible to me. To me it seems as if Spacey was needlessly attacked."

Although the outspoken musician made it clear that he did not condone non-consensual sexual acts in any form, he expressed little sympathy towards the victims of such incidents.

“I hate rape. I hate sexual assault. I hate sexual situations that are forced upon someone.”

“But in very many of these cases, you look at the circumstances and you think that the person, who is called a victim, is simply disappointed.”

The 58-year-old responded in a similar fashion when asked specifically about the allegations made against disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.

“The people know exactly what is happening and they are playing along. Afterwards they find it embarrassing or they didn't like it.”

“And then they turn it around and say 'I've been attacked, I've been surprised, I was dragged into the room'. But if everything had gone just fine and made possible a great career, they wouldn't talk about it.”

Needless to say, his comments did not go down well, with many disappointed fans taking to social media to accuse the singer of victim blaming.
