Twitter has collectively come together to pay homage to the birthday of a very beloved little boy.

Ollie has been suffering at the hands of a bully, so his amazing parents took to Twitter to ask the social media sphere to lend a hand in making his birthday extra special.

'Strange request. Anyone know anyone famous/well known who could send Ollie a positive/9th birthday message,' his Dad tweeted.

'The bully keeps saying to him that everything O has, he has bigger/better/more often. O excited for his birthday but keeps being told it won't be as good as his own.'

'I would be so grateful and I appreciate it is an odd request. Just would love someone to tell him he does mean something and bullying is not.'

The response was immediate, with Olympic athletes, YouTube superstars and TV personalities alike responding to the thread.

'Guys this has gone crazy and I appreciate all the wonderful messages,' his Dad tweeted after the thread went viral.

'No names have been mentioned other than me & my children. I just want to keep it like that, some people will know the bullies and I hope they keep names out of this.'

'I started this with no malice and certainly did not expect the reaction it has received.'

'I for one thank each & everyone of you. I will respond as and when I can, I promise. Please just be kind to each other'

One of our favourite responses came from Irish airline Aer Lingus.

The flight company tweeted Ollie a picture of one of their planes, and one Twitter user tried to call them out for it.

In a Twitter triumph, they Tweeted back a hilariously sassy, passive aggressive response.

Whoever is managing the Aer Lingus Twitter is a hero in our eyes.

However, the biggest here in this story has to be Ollies amazing parents.

We bet Ollie is going to have the best birthday ever on July 5.

We think we can all admit that the style on RTÉ's Six One News isn't the most… daring.

We're usually just welcomed with a suit jacket or blazer (which is all well and good – we're not there for the fashion).

However, long-time newscaster, Sharon Ní Bheoláin, dared to be different last night and wore a cropped-sleeved leather jacket, zipped all the way up to her neck.

We think Sharon looks really well, and we're glad that she decided to jump out of the newscaster box and show off her own style.

And of course, Twitter was all over it:

Ed Sheeran brought his spectacular one-man show to the iconic Glastonbury festval on Sunday night, but it seems not everyone was impressed with his solo set.

The Shape of You singer was forced to defend his performance after many festival-goers accused him of playing along to backing tracks.

Many were confused as to why they could hear the sound of guitars when Ed didn't appear to be playing anything, or why several guitar tracks could be heard at once.

Of course, most Ed Sheeran fans know that he uses a loop station during his stage shows, but those who were not aware of this technique claimed the singer had not given a 'live' performance and instead used pre-recorded backing tracks during his set.

Others were quick to jump to Ed's defence, pointing out that the solo performer had actually used a loop station, allowing him to create several layers for each track.

Determined to put the confusion to bed, Ed took to Twitter to defend his performance.

So, it seems that not everyone in the crowd was an Ed fan, but hey, isn't that the beauty of Glastonbury?

Well, hello there Eminem.

We all know Eminem as the rapper with the peroxide blonde hair, having only sometimes ventured back to his natural roots.

Just a couple of guys from Compton and one from Detroit. With a beard. #thedefiantones

A post shared by Marshall Mathers (@eminem) on

However, a new picture of Em was shared over the weekend, and he's sporting a beard.

A very hot beard, we might add.

Not everyone agrees with us though, and many have shared their mixed reactions on Twitter:

For some baffling reason, a lot of artists, writers, programmers and graphic designers (to name a few) are often asked to work for nothing.

Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Especially in the world of social media, companies promise 'exposure' if you work for them, however as we all know, 'exposure' doesn't put food on the table (or buy you a G&T on a night out).

Well, one programmer seemed to be fed up of people asking him to work for free, so he declined the job – and the employer wasn't happy at all.

In fact, he acted like a total d*ck.

Here's the exchange of messages that the programmer received – and subsequently posted on Twitter:

It starts out pretty boring and simple, just talking about what the job would entail:

But then the employer seems quite shocked that he's asking to be paid for the work that he does.

Zach, the programmer, is very polite, and explains that his rate is very reasonable for the amount of work that needs to be done:

Zach offers a lower price, and well… you can read the reply for yourself:

And then the employer is rude AF:

So, Zach shared the entire exchange online, and has so far gotten 21,000 retweets and 69,000 likes.

GO ZACH.

So, if you've ever planned, been involved in or even just attended a wedding, you'll know all about the pressure and stress the day can bring.

It's not really a matter of if something will go wrong, it's a matter of when and how many times, until you eventually succumb to the fact that not everything will be perfect and it doesn't have to be.

Well, that's if the wedding even happens.

One American bridesmaid has taken to Twitter to share a dramatic tale of the wedding that never was, and oh boy are you in for a treat.

Get ready for a story a love, loss and extreme paintballing.

@starlightgeek first sparked our interest with this intriguing tweet:

And of course, we were immediately hooked.

It gets better.

This bride wasn't wasting any tears and instead had the perfect reaction to her finance's infidelity.

But wait – PLOT TWIST.

Wouldn't surprise us to be honest…

But of course, the bride did what we would all do in that situation…

What. A. Rollercoaster.

So, when going through break-ups, people often turn to their favourite songs for some wise words of encouragement.

But, what if we could here those words directly from our favourite artists' mouth?

Wouldn't that be a million times better?

Well, one lucky Twitter user knows the answer.

Rhianna fan, @WaladShami posted a conversation between him and the songstress, in which she offered some pretty sound break-up advice.

He asked, via direct message, "How did you get over your first heartbreak? I've been struggling."

To which Rihanna replied, “Just believe that the heartbreak was a gift in itself!”

“Cry if you have to, but it won't be forever! You will find love again, and it will be even more beautiful!”

She finished off her heartfelt reply by saying: “In the meantime enjoy all that YOU are!!!!”

Whether you're a dog-owner, or just a dog-lover, we can almost guarantee 70 per cent of your camera roll consists of cute puppy pics.

And why not? They're adorable and the world deserves to know.

Well, one girl has taken her doggie photography skills one step further and is secretly replacing her family photos with photos if their dog, Dixie.

Genius, we know.

(Side note: How much does the top right photo look like baby Kourtney Karashian?)

21-year-old Marissa Hooper originally started this as a way to drive her mam crazy, but of course, as soon the internet got wind of her epic prank, it turned into so much more.

After a few weeks, her mam finally noticed the subtle changes around her house and according to Marissa, “she wasn't amused.”

But, much to Marissa's surprise, the rest of the internet certainly was.

And as if that wasn't enough, little Dixie has now got her very own Instagram account so we can all keep up with her adventures.

An American beauty brand has come under fire after they gave one of their products a hugely offensive name.

The internet has expressed disgust toward Smith & Cult, a brand famous for their nail polishes, after beauty blogger, Talonted Lex, spotted the name of their new eyeliner.

She had been sent the product by the company's PR and was shocked to discover that it was named 'Wax Spastic'.

Twitter users were understandably disappointed at the brands blatant insensitivity.

In the UK and Ireland the word 'spastic' is used as a derogatory term for someone who is disabled and is incredibly offensive.

However, according to Cosmopolitan, in the US, the term simple means someone who is clumsy or awkward.

So, it looks like the message may have been lost in translation, but we're still baffled as to how the word ever made in onto the packaging in the first place. Surely a quick google search would have stopped any confusion?

Lex later tweeted a response from Smith & Cult:

A spokesperson for the company told Cosmopolitan that the product has now been removed from sale.

“We have immediately removed the item from sale. Although the understanding of the word in US is very different we have to take responsibility, and recognise that as an international brand we must do better, and will take urgent steps to do this.”

It's been 13 years since the release of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy, and yet there are few among us who don't still regularly quote the Will Ferrell classic.

And proving it's still very much on the public's radar, a plethora of high-profile news anchors last night performed a skit of one of its most memorable scenes.

Unsurprisingly, the internet is absolutely obsessed, with the short clip racking up more than 18,000 likes on Twitter in mere hours.

With Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Jon Snow, Dermot Murnaghan, Sarah-Jane Mee and Patrick Stewart taking centre stage, the parody went off with a serious bang on The Last Leg last night.

Right, that's enough from us. Take a look at this.
