Although most people like to make February 14th memorable, not everyone likes to spend a fortune on it. If you want to get the most out of Valentine’s Day, all you need is a bit of creativity.

Get moving
Engaging in some physical activity like ice skating will get your endorphins flowing, leaving you both in good humour for the rest of the day.

Massage
Draw the curtains, light some scented candles and get some body oils on your fingers. A full-body massage by the love of your life is something you’re bound to enjoy.

Rose petals
As corny as it may seems, nothing will get him more excited than a trail of rose petals to the bedroom. Anticipation is half the fun of a romantic surprise – or a steamy one.

Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton and Nicole Scherzinger have decided to give their romance another go.

The former Pussycat Doll singer was recently seen heading to a studio in west London to meet her 29-year-old lover boy, who showed up in a taxi.

The loved-up couple then made their way to a restaurant in central London before they got the chance to share a quick smooch in an underground car park– a bit too late to keep things low key!

The two decided to call it quits last July, just before Nicole toured the UK with Gary Barlow.

But it looks like they just couldn’t get enough of each other as the two shared snaps of a romantic ski break together in Aspen on New Year’s Day.

We’re delighted for Nicole and Lewis, hopefully things will work out between them this time around.

Such a classic, the scene in the diner may be a little awkward if it’s your first date though. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler make the perfect onscreen couple every time and we just love this cute and hilarious movie.

Make these yummy cocktails for your lucky Valentine this 14th February and you’ll be sure to impress even the most sceptical of dates.

You can opt for a Sugar or Spice cocktail or even better, blend the two to make one epic Sugar AND Spice drink. Clever!

Sugar and Spice

For the Sugar:

  • 25ml Smirnoff vodka
  • 75ml ginger ale
  • 4 raspberries
  • 2 lime wedges
  1. Muddle the raspberries and the lime in a glass.
  2. Fill the glass with ice and top off with the vodka and ginger ale.

For the Spice:

  • 25ml Smirnoff Vodka
  • 75ml apple juice
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  1. Put the vodka and apple juice in a highball glass with some ice.
  2. Sprinkle the cinnamon on top, stir and enjoy.

Some of us can have a bitter attitude towards Valentine’s day and this can be made worse by watching loved-up couples exaggerate the importance of this day.

Forget candlelight dinners and soft lighting – grab the girls and head to Finland this Valentine’s Day.

The beautiful country shuns the traditional loved-up romance of February 14th and instead calls the event ‘Ystävänpäivä’, which translates as ‘Friend’s Day’. Perfect if you’re a singleton or if you just fancy an alternative city break.

This winter is actually a particularly spectacular time to head to the Nordic country as it is classed as being the best time in 50 years to see the magical northern lights.

Enjoy a reindeer ride with mates in Lapland or if nightlife is more your thing, head to Helsinki. The city boasts a lively atmosphere and is packed full of contemporary and traditional restaurants.

New research shows men will shun a Valentine getaway in favour of a football match – can’t say we’re surprised ,to be honest.

According to dealchecker.co.uk, trips to Madrid and Lyon increased between 8th and 21st February last year, but it had nothing to do with romance.

Unfortunately, treating loved ones was not the reason most men went to either of these places; it had more to do with the fact that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs were playing there.

Thankfully, you don’t have to worry this February as there are no football matches clashing with the most romantic day of the year – your other half won’t have an excuse not to take you away now.

If you are one of the lucky ones you might end up in Salzburg, Barcelona or Valetta. While not traditionally romantic locations, they are currently the top three destinations for February 2014.

If someone decided to whisk us away to any of these, we would be more than willing to go… hint, hint.
