Plus size women have responded to Jamelia in the BEST way
TV presenter Jamelia got herself in trouble this week when she made some seriously badly thought out comments live on air.
Jamelia was appearing on the Loose Women panel for a discussion about plus size fashion when she said she believed mainstream stocks should not stock clothes over a size 20, because it promotes an unhealthy attitude.
"In high-street stores you’re catering for the average woman; there’s a healthy [weight] range, and I don’t believe they should be providing clothes for below that range or above that range," she said. “Yes have specialist shops, but you should feel uncomfortable if you’re unhealthy.”
The reaction to Jamelia's comments has been largely negative, but one constructive thing to come out of the scandal is the #WeAreTheThey hashtag, started by beauty blogger @Debzjs. In an open letter on her Twitter profile, @Debzjs asked women "below a size 6 or above a size 20" to share empowering photos of themselves, to put a face on the "they" Jamelia spoke of in her rant.
"I think that it is important that people realise that Jamelia is talking about REAL PEOPLE and that they "they" she refers to are a vast range of people from all over."
The response has been incredible, with people from all over the world sharing some amazing photos:
