Weather conditions look set to ease today as counties in the south east and west begin to recover after Storm Brian brought heavey rain and flooding to the region.

Today is expected to be a cool day with a some sunny spells and scattered showers expected in Munster, Connacht and Ulster this morning.

Other parts of the country will remain largely dry, though showers may develop later in the day, with more persistent rain expected for this evening – top temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees.

Tomorrow looks set to be a mainly dry day with all counties enjoying spells of sunshine and top  temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees.

Forecasts suggest that the rest of the week will see some very unsettled and changeable weather as Atlantic weather systems cross Ireland from time to time.

At last!

Put away those winter coats ladies – there’s some glorious sunshine on the way.

Temperatures are expected to reach highs 17C this week, with Shannon Airport even recording temperatures of 20C on Tuesday.

Met Eireann forecaster, Vincent O’Shea told Independent.ie: "It's going to be dry and sunny for the rest of the week, including the weekend.’’

‘’It won't be beach weather as such but it will be fine and dry although overall it might be a little breezier than it was on Monday and Tuesday.’’

"It could be slightly cooler along the east coast due to sea breezes but it'll get gradually warmer as you move inland.’’

Temperatures are expected to drop ever so slightly over the weekend with highs of 15C forecast for Friday and Saturday.

But wait, it gets better.

Early indications suggest that temperature could reach a balmy 21C early next week.

Summer has finally arrived!

Wishing for a white Christmas? Dreaming of magical sleigh rides, hot chocolate and ice skating in the park?

Not this year, guys. According to Met Éireann's Jean Byrne, we’re in for some pretty ‘typical’ Irish weather.

Wintry showers are likely, as it is expected to turn cooler on Wednesday into Thursday, but the probability of building a snowman is pretty slim.

Jean has been studying the charts closely to see what’s in store for Christmas Week.

The highest temperature will be between 4C and 7C. However, it will turn milder towards the end of the week.

Christmas Eve will be cold again with some more wintry showers, so keep your winter woollies to hand. Similar conditions are predicted for Christmas Day, with no hope of a white Christmas.

We live in hope of this magical sight.

Ladies, hold on to your tents – there’s RAIN a comin’.

While Irish festival goers know only too well not to expect Coachella-style climes at home, it sure would be nice not to have to buy a boat before this weekend’s highly anticipated Electric Picnic.

Unfortunately though this coming weekend is on its way with one simple warning: DON’T forget your wellies!

Met Eireann has reported good news for those with a Friday EP pass as – some scattered showers aside – “a good deal of dry weather” is predicted as the favoured festival gets underway.

But sadly the truly dedicated revellers amongst us could be facing “wet and blustery [conditions] with persistent rain” for the rest of the weekend as showers will be a feature of Saturday night and Sunday.

So if your mam offers you a raincoat, poncho or brollie as you head off to Stradbally, make sure you take it.

This summer ws a little bit disappointing in terms of weather, we had a few nice days here and there, but it never lasted long enough to even make plans.

But we've got some good news for you today, an Indian summer is on its way.

August will end on Monday with some rain but once that passes the good weather is on it's way. High pressure will appear over the country and settled bright weather will finally be coming our way.

Met Éireann forecaster Siobhan Ryan said next week will be "dry, settled and calm, with little or no wind."

This is especially good news for anyone heading to Electric Picnic in Stradbally on the 4th of September as high of 18 degrees are in store for that weekend.

Met Éireann climatologist Aidan Murphy said the summer has been worse than normal, but it had not been especially bad. “It wouldn’t be in the worst 20 per cent of summers. By no means has it been an exceptionally bad summer,” he said.

“There has been no real fine spell, though June was good overall,” he said. July was poor and August was average, but for the two very wet days.
