Oh summer, we hardly knew you and now you’re going and leaving us again. This weekend will be the last bank holiday of summer 2015 and we were very excited about it.

However, Met Eireann have essentially destroyed any tiny glimmers of hope we may have had for one final impromptu at home beer garden. We’re very sorry to tell you this, but it just doesn’t seem to be happening.

Honestly, we’re trying to look on the bright side but it’s difficult with all that mist getting in our eyes.

You might want to have a look at this break down before you get out the camping gear.

Friday

Finally! Can you not just taste the freedom? You might consider indoor activities before you go all out and get the wash, colour, cut and blow-dry treatment on your lunch break:

“Staying cloudy in the east with patchy rain and drizzle, most of which will occur later in the day.”

Moving swiftly on then.

Saturday

“Showers for Ulster and west Connacht, some of which may turn heavy. A couple of showers may make their way across the midlands and into the Greater Dublin Region later in the afternoon.”

Sounds pretty decent, just make sure to keep your umbrella in easy reach.

Sunday

Oh but wait Just as we got our hopes up, along comes the Sunday forecast to annihilate the summer vibes.

“A dull, wet day with widespread rain, persistent and heavy at times. Rather windy too, especially later. Highest temperatures of just 13 to 16 degrees, coolest over Ulster. Southeast winds will gradually increase fresh to strong and gusty.”

Ah yes, because “rather windy” and “strong and gusty” are exactly the conditions we want when we’re on the beach. Look, you can try and make it as scenic or romantic and whimsical as you want, but rain on the west coast is not exactly rom-com wonderful.

It’s a bit less this:

And more like this:

Monday

Just to really run it in for us on our day off.

“Damp to begin with patchy outbreaks of rain… Showers will move into the south of Munster at times though, with rain arriving into west and southwest counties towards evening.”

Oh come on!

Nothing beats a 99 on a summer’s day in Ireland. Yes, come rain or shine, the balance of gloriously cold, sugary ice-cream; crumbly, chocolatey Cadbury’s Flake, and fresh, crispy cone is positively second-to-none.

But world-class frozen confectionery isn’t the only perk of staying on home-soil during June, July and August.

In fact, we’d take blissful, weeks on end of beer-gardens, of road-trips, of festivals, of long hikes and even longer evenings over the sweltering heat and uncomfortable air of warmer climes.

Yes, you can have your year-round sunshine Florida; take your balmy beaches, Costa del Sol – there's an awful lot to be said for even the most dreary and overcast of summer days on the Emerald Isle.

In short: craic doesn’t need to be tropical… it only needs the right attitude.

So without further ado, SHEmazing! looks at the top six reasons why our humble Irish summers are the absolute best…

1) Festivals

The festival scene in this country has positively exploded over the last few years. And it’s no longer just about music and comedy. From food and farming, to yoga and music and pets, there truly is something for everyone.

Even less-than glamorous campsites are an, ahem, experience not to be missed. Tent mishaps, toilet misdemeanours and just a load of near-misses – the tales live on long after the weekends have ended.

2) The beach

After a promising outlook from the good folk at Met Eireann, temperatures hit a tropical 18C – meaning only one thing: a mass exodus to the nearest stretch of sand.

The tailbacks will be horrific (sunny-day traffic going to Rosslare builds up around Bray) but the waiting packets of warm Tayto, sand in your pants and random encounters with half of your year from school make it all worth it.

3) Summer fashion

We won’t let a little rain stop us from donning our finest summer attire. No siree. And if in doubt, just ‘accessorise’ with a giant tote bag.

After all, at his time of year it’s the only thing in which we can carry around our requisite jumper, jacket, sunglasses, sun cream, umbrella, makeup, flats or flip-flops, chewing gum, nail varnish, a packet of popcorn, and a pair of dangly earrings. #Sorted.

4) Road-trips

You gather up your four always-up-for-it mates, and bungle yourselves into a car: you’re hitting the open road.

No trip is ever complete without Westlife's greatest hits or the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, but you'll all end up belting out Ten Green Bottles anyway.

Granted someone will always be "bursting" for the loo, and all of your phones WILL die at once (why did no one bring a USB charger?) – still, so long as you have a family-sized bag of sucky sweets, you're seriously sorted.

5) The forecast-defying BBQ

"We’ll just go for it": a definitive, game-changing phrase heard around the country from the months of May to September. But it wouldn’t be an Irish summer without a confident throw of the barbecue dice.

Some poor soul (probably one of the guys) is inevitably left in the rain turning a half dozen sad-looking sausages (while you and the rest of the girls retire to the conservatory for a natter) but that gorgeous smell of charcoal and singed meat is matchless.

6) The spontaneous 'why not?' soiree

A true Irish summer wouldn’t be complete without a spontaneous party thrown for no reason at all. It's late afternoon, there's mischief in the air, and you get the word out: you're kicking off a bit of a session.

In fact, so long as you’ve got your squad, a playlist, plenty of food and the right tipple by your side, it won't even matter if it rains.

We’re not sure about you, but the weather has never exactly been ‘must watch’ television in our houses.

In Mexico however, things have changed. Yanet Garcia has caused a stir online in recent times after she’s taken to delivering the weather forecast in an array of skin tight dresses.

Not content with providing the ‘hot’ weather on the Televisa Monterry newscasts, she also has her own YouTube page.

The Mexican beauty has gathered nearly 200,000 Instagram follwers and her Twitter account has also seen a spike in activity in recent times. She’s very good at her job.

So good in fact, that there are rumours the star may be making a huge international move with networks vying for her attention.

We do wonder if this might have been adding fuel to the fire for the recent unrest between our own dear Evelyn and Jean? Could RTÉ be one of the major international networks just dying to add Yanet to their team? Only time will tell.

In the meantime, the internet is content with watching, and re-watching, Yanet’s helpful YouTube videos. One which has gathered over 1 million views in just 6 days.

Fans from all over the world are taking to Twitter to tell Yanet just how much they enjoy her forcasts. Some have even compared her to Ariana Grande and Kim Kardashian.

Met Éireann have issued a red alert for exposed and mountain areas of Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Clare, Limerick and Kerry where winds are expected to reach between 130-150km/h tonight.

The red alert will come into place tonight at 9pm and is in place until midday tomorrow. However, alerts have also been issued for other areas of the country with an orange alert being issued for the rest of Ireland and a yellow rainfall alert in place for Connaught, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

The National Emergency Committee have advised people on the west coast to stay indoors and avoid travel if possible and to stay clear of waterways and cliff walks.

With things expected to be particularly bad in Kerry, schools are set to remain closed with The Department of Education advising similar areas on red alert to do the same.

Storm Rachel is well on her way following the snowy night seen in much of the country so stay indoors and be careful when out and about!

#StormRachel has already begun to trend on Twitter with many people tweeting about the bad weather – and there's only more to come!

Stay safe everyone!

Ladies, it’s not time to pack away that winter coat yet! If you thought we had escaped a somewhat mild winter, then Met Éireann are here to let you know it's not over yet!

In rather alarming weather news, Met Éireann have issued a yellow alert for Waterford, Monaghan and Leinster between the hours of 6pm today and 8am on Wednesday. Met Éireann have warned that up to 3cm of snow could fall in places over the following days and that temperatures will be freezing, describing lows of -2 to +2 degrees on their official Twitter page.

Similarly, forecasts of snow and ice are in place for Connaught, Clare, Cavan, Cork, Limerick, Kerry and Tipperary. There are also warnings of icy patches that for locations that escape snow showers.

It wouldn't be the first time snow has fallen in January, indeed a lot of you may remember a very white March we had a few years ago!

It looks set to be a stormy and snowy week ahead so make sure you wrap up warm and take extra care on the roads.

It's been hard to say goodbye to summer, but there are some reasons we are very happy to see the back of it…like these!

1. College Time

For those of us lucky enough to be heading back to college, it's the best time of the year! Until one week in and you're starving, all your clothes are dirty and you're broke. But it's all in the anticipation!

2. Less Socialising

Whatever it is about summer, it tends to bring out our inner disco drinking divas. We come down with serious case of FOMO if we’re not perched in a beer garden, cider in hand, every single weekend. Winter then, paves the way for less drinking, more nights in catching up on Netflix and a general sense of letting our livers rest up.

3. Everywhere Smells Better

The ever lingering smell of sweat is replaced with a smell of hot chocolate, cool breezes, log fires and joy.

4. Fun Non-Festival Events

Festivals are great and all, but once the summer is over you’ll probably be glad to see the back of them for a while. Sure, what’s not to like about all day drinking, camping in a leaky tenet and eating enough burgers to sink a ship, but it’s good to try something new which is why, come the close of summer, Halloween and Oktoberfest are where it’s at. No portable toilets, no muck, no wellies, just pure, unadulterated joy.

5. Less Personal Prep

With summer comes shaving, tanning, waxing, polishing, buffing and boring times all round. Alas, not so much when it’s all over. The end of summer spells the end of personal grooming and personal pride too, on some level. Layer on the woolen goods because there’s a yeti hiding underneath this jumper.

6. Public Transport Is More Bearable

Public transport during the summer is really some mild form of torture. Sweat, tight spaces, late schedules, angry people and windows that won’t open all combine to make for a very uncomfortable commute indeed. Now, getting on to a warm bus is somewhat of a comfort instead of a curse. For the most part.

7. Better Food

Goodbye boring salads and hello fantastic comforting winter food, we’ve really missed you. After all a few extra pounds in the winter equals insulation, meaning there’s no better time to treat yourself to that tempting little treat that you’ve no doubt got your eye on…

8. More Excuses To Curl Up On The Couch

When the weather’s great outside, you might feel guilty for swapping that run for a run of the Kardashians and a nest of blankets, but now there’s no such guilt factor. Stock up on blankets, socks and great films because it’s getting chilly out there and we’re going nowhere.

9. A Fresh Start

September is ingrained in our minds as being a fresh start, a new beginning and the start of another year, perhaps more so than January. Think about it, you spend roughly 18 years of your life starting anew every September so now is as good a time as any to rid yourself of any past mistakes, any regrets and above all, to try and achieve anything that you want after a lazy or unproductive summer. Go out there and get it.

Don’t pack away the flip-flops just yet ladies!

After a very rainy Bank Holiday weekend in parts of the country, another heatwave has been forecast.

WOOHOO!

According to Met Éireann, a band of high pressure from the north and over Scandinavia is expected to push down over Ireland next week, causing temperatures to reach up to 25C, with lots of sunshine predicted too!

"It would be a bit premature to say we're definitely looking at another heatwave but certainly we shouldn't give up hope. The high pressure is there so it could develop over Ireland," said Met Éireann forecaster John Eagleton.

The sunny outlook comes after up to 89 millimetres of rain fell in parts of the east and midlands this weekend, causing flooding in some areas.

YUCK!

Bring on the sunshine!

Rumours are spreading that temperatures will reach as high 28 degrees tomorrow!

Apparently Ireland was even hotter than the east coast of France and even certain parts of Africa today! Wow!

Forecaster Deirdre Lowe revealed though that it wasn’t sunny everywhere though as parts of the midlands and north west did experience some heavy thunder showers today.

“Today we have had some thunderstorms around parts of Munster, the midlands and up to the North West, but it’s still been warmer than usual there. Over Leinster and east Ulster there were quite a few 25s.”

But fear not as it looks like the sun will be definitely making an appearance tomorrow anyway.

Fingers crossed the hot weather will last till the weekend!

It may be hard to believe it when you look outside today, but there is a localised flood warning in place!

The warning will be initiated tonight at 9pm until 9pm Saturday night.

So, while you may be out sunning yourself today, make the most of it as torrential and thundery rain is set to begin this evening. Eek!
