As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and in what was a pretty glorious week weather wise, that can only mean one thing – thunderstorms and torrential downpours.

Yep. Just when you thought we might actually get a bit of a summer this year, Met Éireann issue the entire country with a status yellow weather warning.

Heavy showers will spread eastwards across the country today, bringing a risk of thunder and localised flooding, though it will gradually clear through the evening. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees.

Tomorrow will start off dry in the east, however, showers will become widespread by early afternoon. Temperatures will fall slightly with expected highs of 13 to 17 degrees.

It's a similar story heading into the weekend, however Saturday looks set to be the best day, with sunny spells and highs of 16 to 19 degrees.

It was fun while it lasted, guys.

Getting out of bed this morning was made so much easier by the presence of that big, golden ball in the sky, right?

But if years of Irish weather has taught us anything, it's to take each day – if not each hour – as it comes.

Thankfully, however, the good folk at Met Eireann have assuaged any fears that we'll need a brolly by lunchtime with their latest forecast.

According to those in the know, Ireland will experience unusually warm weather with this week, with temperatures set to reach 27 degrees over the next few days.

And yes ladies, this unlikely figure does indeed put us on par with some of the continent's most popular holiday destinations!

"Today will be warm, dry and sunny with highest temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees, warmest in the midlands and coolest along coasts due to onshore breezes," reads the online forecast.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and midweek will see a dip in temperature along with the risk of showers.

"There's a risk that a spell of rain on Wednesday will turn heavy. There'll be more rain on Thursday, mostly in the west, it will sweep eastwards and clear overnight on Thursday night."

"Temperatures will be down a little in a moderate to fresh southwest wind. The further outlook towards the end of next week is for a cooler few days to be followed later by higher temperatures once again."

You hear that, high temperatures once again? We'll take what we can get, frankly.

Ladies, if you're heading to Longitude this weekend, it's definitely worth your while heeding the advice of the good folk over at Met Éireann.

According to reports, forecasters have told music fans to expect a weekend of sun and high temperatures which means reapplying your sunscreen is more important than reapplying your glitter over the next two days.

A spokesperson for Met Éireann spoke to The Sun and confirmed that the sun is set to shine over Marlay Park this weekend.

"Gig goers should definitely bring sun tan lotion as we believe the sun burn index will be high. Tomorrow will be muggy and close at Longitude. It will be fairly fine into the evening."

"Sunday will be a warm, dry sunny day, maybe not as warm but a bright, fresh day all the same," they added.

According to their official website, Saturday will be "warm, humid and blustery with top temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees in northern and western areas and 21 to 24 degrees elsewhere."

So, to be clear, your ticket and your suncreen are the biggest priorities if you're Longitude-bound, ladies.

So, July hasn't been kind to us on the weather front.

Sure, we've had a few sunny patches here and there, but it's hard to enjoy when rain clouds linger in the distance.

And it looks like that rain isn't going anywhere, or at least it's not for the next few days.

According to Met Eireann, rain and drizzle will extend from the southeast today, with most areas expected to be hit with damp conditions.

However, much of Ulster is set to remain dry today with some sunny spells emerging.

Temperatures will range from 15C to 19C with light westerly breezes.

More dull weather is expected for Tuesday, with rain becoming heavy at times over the southern half of the country, but brighten conditions will develop later in the afternoon.

Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees with moderate east to northeast winds.

Unsettled conditions remain for the rest of the week, however some sunny spells are expected on Wednesday and Friday with temperatures reaching up to 22C.

Sun worshippers rejoice!

The glorious weather isn't going anywhere just yet.

Temperatures are expected to remain as high as 26 degrees in the first half of the week, making Ireland hotter than the Canaray Islands – bad news if you're off on your holliers.

All parts of the country will experience temperatures well above average for this time of year, however the best of the sunshine will be in Munster and Leinster.

Monday: A warm sunny day with top temperatures of 25 degrees.

Tuesday: Warm and humid with hazy sunshine and highs of 19 to 26 degrees. Isolated thunderstorms will develop in the south of the country towards evening and gradually spread northwards throughout the night.

Wednesday: Top temperatures of 20 to 26 degrees. However the heat and humidity will set off a number of heavy thundery showers during the day and these will continue to occur into the evening time.

Thursday: Temperatures are set to drop slightly with highs of 17 to 21 degrees in southwesterly breezes. Mostly dry with spells of sunshine and some cloudier periods.

Friday: Highs of 15 to 18 degrees.General increase in cloud with occasional patchy rain.

It looks like temperature are set to drop back to average over the weekend, although Saturday is expected to be a mainly dry day.

So, don't put the factor 50 anywhere just yet. You're gonna need it this week.

There's nowhere quite like Ireland on a hot day.

And because we so infrequently see the sun, there are few among us who don't bask in every second of its glory when it does actually appear.

With that in mind, you may need to prepare yourself for some serious basking as Met Éireann has forecast an absolute belter of a weekend.

With temperatures set to peak in the mid-20s, the entire country will enjoy warm, sunny spells across both Saturday and Sunday.

"A fine and dry day everywhere with warm sunny spells," reads the official forecast for Saturday.

"Cloudy at times in the north and northwest, but the south and east will have long spells of sunshine. Temperatures peaking in the low to mid twenties inland, but fresher near coasts due to sea breezes."

Of Sunday, they say: "Another fine and dry day for most. Long sunny spells generally, and very warm. Light variable winds."

Throw another shrimp on the barbie, ladies…

So, it looks like we're in for another week of unpredictable weather.

Although conditions definitely look set to improve, patches of rain and drizzle will continue throughout the next few days.

This morning will give way to bright and sunny spells with just a few scattered showers.

Rain will then extend from the southwest coast through Munster and Connacht this afternoon and remaining areas later this evening. Top temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees.

It will be a cloudy and damp start tomorrow, but some bright periods are due to develop later in the afternoon. A mild day, with top temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees.

Scattered showers and sunny spells will continue throughout the rest of the week.

Friday looks set to be the warmest day with temperatures expected to reach highs of 17 to 20 degrees.

The outlook for the weekend is still unclear, however a lot of dry weather is expected, with occasional sunny spells and just a few showers.

Temperatures in the high teens for most areas.

Not the worst but certainly not the best. Fingers crossed for next week lads.

For the past number of years, you could almost bet on the weather to be warm and sunny during examination time.

While all of the Junior and Leaving Cert students studied in their rooms and panicked in exams halls, we could bask in the sunshine and thank the Looord that we're not back in those grimy halls.

Well, it appears that that's not going to happen this year.

According to Met Éireann, Ireland is going to be quite unsettled this week, with rain and thundery showers in store.

Maximum temperatures will reach 14 to 17 degrees today, but don't get too excited because rain will develop and "will turn heavy in many areas."

Tomorrow, Thursday, is looking mostly cloudy, with "patches of rain and drizzle, turning heavy and persistent along southern coasts and extending northwards into much of Munster and many parts of Leinster by morning."

Friday doesn't look too bad, as it will be dry in many areas "with sunny spells." A few scattered showers will occur, but they won't turn heavy until Friday night.

However, Saturday doesn't look bad at all. It will become "dry in many areas, with some bright or sunny spells developing." There's still a possibility of rain, but we're going to hold out hope.

The weather has been muggy AF lately, so we were delighted to see that Met Éireann predicts that today will be warm, sunny and fresh.

The national forecaster predicts that today temperatures will hit a high of 21 degrees Celsius across the country.

The warm weather will be accompanied by fresh breezes, however some coastal areas will have to put up with cloudy, drizzly conditions.

'Today will be largely dry with good sunny spells for much of the country,' said Met Éireann.

'Cloudier conditions will persist for a time in the east and south with patches of mist, drizzle and fog affecting coastal areas.'

'Highest temperatures will range between 17 and 21 degrees, the warmer weather in the midlands and west.'

'Winds will be light variable at first but will increase moderate to fresh southerly during the day.'

We were about to get excited when we heard temperatures would be up to 22 degrees this week, however Met Éireann has warned us to not whip out the shorts and tank tops just yet.

It is predicted that "changeable" weather will continue into the week ahead, however most days will be "breezy and cloudy."

Today, it will be "mostly cloudy at first with patches of rain, drizzle and fog and some heavy pockets of rain over parts of Leinster and Ulster."

However, as the day progresses, we will experience some "bright spells," with maximum temperatures reaching 15 to 19 degrees.

Tomorrow will be cloudy at first, with some rain, but will gradually brighten up with sunny spells developing into the day and highs of 19 degrees.

That's basically how it will be for the rest of the week, and as we reach the weekend, early indications say it will be "relatively cool and fresh with sunny spells and scattered showers."

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far and the warmest May day at Malin Head since records began .

Temperatures rose as high as 26 degrees in some areas, but unfortunately, this glorious spell we're having won't be sticking around.

Friday will be a warm day with highest temperatures of 25 degrees, but heavy thundery showers will spread over parts of the west, and there's plenty more where they came from.

Thundery rain is forecast for most of the country in Saturday morning, with fresher spells developing later in the evening. Top temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees.

Temperatures will fall slightly on Sunday and early next week, but it will should stay mostly dry with highs of 18 degrees in light southwesterly breezes.

Rain will develop along the west coast on Tuesday morning and will slowly move across the country during the day.

The rest of the week remains 'changeable' according to Met Eireann, so fingers and toes crossed for the June Bank Holiday weekend.

If you managed to catch the good weather yesterday by ducking out of the office, then good on you, but you may have wanted to save that strategic break for today.

The temperature is due to reach a glorious high of 24 degrees, and we're just glad our foundation has built-in SPF.

According to Met Eireann: 'Sunny spells developing widely during the day and becoming warm with highest temperatures 18 to 24 degrees in light breezes.'

Temperatures are expected to remain high until Friday, when there may be a spot of rain.

We're dusting off the sunnies in anticipation.
