While other countries are guaranteed a consistent supply of Vitamin D during the summer months, those of us in Ireland have to wait with fingers crossed for the sun to reveal itself.

So we’re sure you’ll be delighted to hear that this weekend we’re in for some sun.

According to the Independent, Ireland’s temperature will begin to rise today with those in the sunny South East benefitting the most.

Between Sunday and Tuesday temperatures in the west of the country are expected to reach 25 degrees, while the rest of us should be prepared for 21 degrees.

Unfortunately you’ll have to make the most of the weekend sunshine as Mr Sun will be dashing off late on Tuesday, only to be replaced by a thunderstorm.  From there temperatures will drop to around 10 degrees.

Well, you can’t accuse an Irish summer of being boring!

If you arrived back from lunch looking like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards, you mightn't be surprised to learn that a weather warning has been issued for this evening.

With many parts of the country experiencing seriously strong gales, the good folk at Met Eireann have put a marine status yellow gale warning in place.

For those living on the coast, you guys are set to endure the worst of it, with forecasters drawing specific attention to Belfast Lough, Roches Point and Rossan Point.

"Southwest to west gales or strong gales today on Irish coastal waters from Belfast Lough to Roches Point to Rossan Point and on the Irish Sea," read the warning.

Taking to Twitter, they advised the public that conditions are set to calm as the night progresses with winds moderating and showers becoming isolated overnight.

They may become isolated overnight, but we're not taking any chances tomorrow.

Umbrellas, a go.

Plans for the Bank Holiday weekend? Well, you'll be happy to know that you'll be doing them in sunny weather, but as always in Ireland, there's a catch; we might be in for some showers (so pack a brolly).

According to Met Eireann: "While there will be some sunny spells, there'll be a good deal of cloud around this afternoon and evening.

"Highest temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees, in a light to moderate west to northwesterly breeze.

"Showers will then die away to leave a mainly dry night with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in just mainly light northwesterly breezes.

"Tomorrow, Sunday, will be dry during the morning with a mix of cloud and some sunshine.

"A lot of dry weather too for the afternoon and evening, with some sunshine, but there will be a scattering of showers too, these mostly light though.

"Highest temperatures of 18 or 19 degrees in a mostly moderate westerly breeze."

Delighted! Enjoy the Bank Holiday, guys!

It's official: the nation is basking in glorious sunshine the likes of which have not been seen in a decade-and-a-half.

And for a country that digs out sandals and shorts as soon as the thermostat reaches 18C, we reckon the Emerald Isle will positively lose the run of itself tomorrow.

That's because – as now confirmed by RTÉ's Joanna Donnelly – things are about to get yer-on-yer-hollliers-in-Spain hot.

Taking to Twitter, the meteorologist said today: "In 14 years I've never seen a 30 on a chart."

Also including a snap of a roasting-looking Ireland: "We're going to 28 tomorrow," referring to Met Éireann's Dublin HQ.

It's a tweet that has proven immensely popular – notching up some 625 retweets and 470 likes.

Furthermore, Joanna's twitter handle has been flooded with snaps of car dashboards already displaying the magic 30C+ symbol.

Understandably, the hashtag #heatwave is already trending strongly in Ireland.

When it comes to warm weather, we're a seriously contrary bunch.

While desperately wishing for a glimpse of sunlight from one end of the year to the next, we generally don't know what to do with ourselves when it finally arrives.

And with a heatwave currently sweeping Ireland and the UK, people have taken to social media in their droves to share their experience of this unexpected turn in fortune.

These people speak to us on an emotional level.

1. She gets us

2. He knows what's up

3. He obviously caught our Facebook update this morning

4. He might just be done with it already

5. He's right you know

6. He took one for the team

7. He's asking for a *cough* friend *cough*

8. She is our spirit animal

9. Ah, here he is!

It is finally time to break out the short shorts as the hottest day of the year so far is scheduled in for next week.

According to the Irish Mirror, temperatures are set to hit 27 degrees in parts of Ireland this coming Tuesday making it the best day of the year to date.

Temperatures will range from 23 to 27 degrees around the country, with the best places to catch some rays being inland counties like Laois and Offaly.

And just to make sure we finally get some Vitamin D, Met Eireann has predicted that the weather for the whole of next week should be good with Monday ranging from 21 to 26 degrees, Tuesday being a scorcher and the rest of the week being a comfortable 20 degrees.

Much and all as we'd like to pretend we can enjoy a gig no matter what the weather, we don't splash out on those über- sassy flower crowns only to be p*ssed on all weekend.

Thankfully, it doesn't looks like that'll be the case for anyone lucky enough to be heading to Longitude this weekend!

That's right ladies, you can hoof your rain poncho back under the bed because it sounds like the weather gods are planning to smile on you while you kick it wih Kendrick and chill with Chvrches.

According to Met Éireann, despite the clouds and patchy outbreaks of rain affecting the north of the county, Friday is set to reach 22 degrees while Saturday will be perfect festival weather – warm and sunny with just a 10 percent chance of precipitation.

And Sunday? You'll be looking at the same again with highs of 21 degrees and 'no significant volume of rain'.

Now, all we need is a damn ticket.

When it comes to the weather, us Irish can take almost anything thrown at us, but Lawd, we really need a break from the humid shower-fest we're currently dealing with.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we're going to get respite any time soon if the good folk over at Met Éireann are to be believed, and they are.

According to the weekend's forecast, we're in for even more scattered showers coupled with humid conditions – everything we could want after a Saturday spent in the hairdressers,

Southern and Western areas of the country can expect heavy and thundery rainfall tonight which will continue into Saturday, and may be interspersed with welcome sunny spells.

Sunday will bring us more scattered showers while the humid conditions may make way for light breezes.

While temperatures are set to reach 22 degrees in some areas of the country, we are also advised to expect spot flooding in some places.

Oh, marvellous!

Ladies, we're gonna just say it – we deserve medals for soldiering through this week's weather.

Between sheltering from sheets of rain to swelthering beneath your sensible mac in the space of 15 minutes, this unpredictable weather is really – and we mean really – trying our patience.

And unfortunately for us, it doesn't look set to plateau any time soon, with Met Eireann advising us to brace ourselves for more of the same over the coming weekend.

According to the good folk who help us choose our outfits most mornings, Friday looks set to be cool with windy showers – sideways rain, anyone?! – while the north of the country can expect heavy thundery showers.

Saturday looks set to be a total sh*tshow apparently, with forecasters predicting a heady mix of sun, showers and wind with a max temperature of 18 degrees.

And Sunday? You guessed it. We can expect high temperatures mixed with scattered showers.

Oh, the bloody joys.

Now, we know everyone is holding out for another heatwave (fingers crossed), and this weekend isn't quite the scorcher we all want, but we'll take it nonetheless.

We're going to see the best weather from Friday to Sunday of this week, but Met Éireann says it will be changeable again after that.

Friday will be mainly dry, "with sunny spells, but some scattered showers will occur in parts of the east and southeast.

"Max. 14 to 17 Celsius generally, but 18 or 19 C in southern coastal areas."

Saturday will be mostly the same, however it will become "cloudy along the west and southwest coasts, with a little patchy drizzle or light rain possible later in the day.

"Maximum temperatures 15 to 20 Celsius, highest in the eastern half of the country."

And Sunday promises to be dry again (hurrah!) with bright, sunny spells, "but with a good deal of cloud, bringing a few patches of drizzle." Damn.

"Max. 16 to 20 Celsuis, in a freshening southerly breeze."

We're just going to have to roll with it, ladies.

With Body and Soul mere days away, much of the public have been crossing their fingers for sun this week, but it looks like the gods are having a right laugh at us.

According to Met Eireann, we're pushing our luck hoping for sun when we'd be lucky to make it through the evening without getting saturated.

Heavy thundery downpours have been forecast and Twitter is currently awash with reports of localised flooding in certain parts of the capital including Cabra and the inner city.

Those in the know have estimated that the weather warning will stay in place until approximately 8pm this evening.

As long as it gets it out of its system by Friday, we're (fairly) grand with it…well, kinda.

If you've lived in Ireland for a certain amount of time, you'll know you shouldn't take a moment of sunshine for granted, and should always be prepared to part ways with it at any second.

Thankfully, it doesn't look like our sad farewells are going to take place any time soon, with numerous reports confirming that the sunny spell is set to last well into next weekend!

According to the good folk at Met Éireann, temperatures on our lovely little isle are set to hit 22 degrees in some regions and may get even higher as we make our way towards the June Bank Holiday weekend.

While we may experience a few scattered showers and some sea breezes over the next few days, the general forecast suggests a barbecue may be in order every night this week.

Ladies? The exam weather has officially arrived.
