Is that you Zach Galfianakis?!

The star of the Hangover movies has debuted his extraordinary weight loss recently.

Zach appeared on the The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and looked great as he discussed his new movie, Birdman and how he feels about red carpet events.

The actor spoke about a particularly awkward moment on the red carpet when E! News correspondent Alicia Quarles asked him about his weight loss to which he replied: “No, I’m just … I’m dying.”

Hmm, that sounds like a hard one to react to…!

The chances are that we have all been told at one point to gorge on grapefruit when we’re feeling fluey, but a new study has suggested that its health benefits may go far beyond that.

New research suggests that grapefruit may lower the potential weight gained from eating fatty foods by up to a fifth, while it may also help in the management of diabetes, by lowering blood sugar and insulin levels.

While this all sounds rather amazing, these findings are actually based on experiments that were carried out on mice, but experts believe that the results definitely warrant further investigation on humans.

It also suggests that the grapefruit diet, also known as the Hollywood Diet – where you consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice with every meal, as part of a balanced diet – may actually be effective.

Interestingly, this study showed that the grapefruit only affected weight gain in this way when the subjects were eating fatty foods.

We know what’s going at the top of the shopping list next week!

We will certainly be looking forward to finding out more about the study and any further investigations that might follow.

If you’ve ever been on a diet or tried to drop a few pounds, you’ll know what an emotional rollercoaster it can be. Some days you get out of bed feeling like a lean, mean weight loss machine – until you stand on the scales and realise you’re actually up a pound. Other days, after binge-eating and feeling super guilty, you’ve randomly lost two pounds.

Checking your weight on a daily basis can be a measure of progress, yes, but it’s not always an accurate way to tell how healthy you are.

One of my friends has always been a steady size 8, even though her favourite lunchtime snack in secondary school was a box of wedges from Spar and a Mars bar. No matter what she ate, her weight never changed. When it came to PE though, she was woefully unfit. So while she might have had a healthy appearance, her body certainly wasn’t thanking her for the excess junk food. Now that we’re older and she has started eating more cleanly and exercising regularly, the difference is obvious in so many ways. Yes, her weight is still the same as at 16, but her skin is clearer, she always has heaps of energy and she’d outrun Usain Bolt. Almost.

If you’ve been putting hard work into exercise and diet but are seeing no difference on the scales, consider other factors that might be changing without you noticing. Muscle weighs more than fat per pound, so if you’ve been hitting the gym hard, your weight on the scales may stay the same or even – god forbid – go up. A good way to track changes in your body is to measure key areas like arms, waist, hips and thighs every week. You might not have dropped a pound on the scales, but you could still be losing inches!

Taking notice of how your clothes fit is another way to track progress. Is that Saturday night dress suddenly a little easier to zip up? It’s no accident!

Lifestyle and diet changes can also hugely affect your mental health and your relationship with food – two positive changes that the scales will never pick up on. When we eat well and exercise regularly, our body can cope with stress more easily and we can focus more clearly on daily tasks. As for food, eating cleanly means you become mindful of what you’re putting into your body.

Even if you have a significant amount of weight to lose, it’s so important to realise that what you weigh isn’t the only thing that defines you. Your weight is not a measure of your health, your personality, your intelligence or your self-worth. So don’t let the number on the scales control you.

Kim Kardashian is fond of a bit of Photoshop every once in a while, but her latest Instagram snap is apparently Photoshop free, according to the star.

She posted the photo to her account, in which she is wearing a purple and black corset, with the caption: “#hourglass #waisttraining #nophotoshopnecessary #whatawaist.com”.

It was no secret that the star was trying to shed a few pounds after her rant on Twitter last week, and apparently she's lost seven pounds in two weeks after cutting back on carbs. Now she's giving this ‘waist training’ trend a go, which involves the gradual reduction of your waist by wearing a latex waist cincher or corset. Sounds kind of weird to us… next she'll be getting her ribs removed!

While she does look great, we hope she doesn’t get carried away! According to one of Kim’s friends “She feels like she's reached her goal weight now”, so that’s good. But it's no excuse for stepping out in this jumpsuit on Wednesday night:

No excuse at all, Kimmy.

Ever wondered how many bites you take per day? No, neither have we, but it seems that keeping track of how many mouthfuls of food you eat could actually be a factor in weight loss.

Most of us are guilty of eating our food too fast and gulping down meals and snacks in just a few bites. Research has shown that chewing slower and taking smaller mouthfuls can aid digestion and weight loss, but of course it’s easy to forget that when you’ve just opened the bar of Galaxy you've been craving all day.

Now, a company in South Carolina have taken things to the next level by developing a bite-counter which tracks how quickly or slowly you eat by noting your wrist movements. The Bite Monitor’s creators believe that 100 bites per day is the perfect amount if you’re trying to lose weight.

Apparently, each bite we eat has an average of 17 calories for men and 11 calories for women… depending on what you eat in a normal day of course.

We’re not sure if we really want to know exactly how many spoons of Ben and Jerry’s we’ve just eaten to be honest, but, hey, it could be worth a try!

There’s no doubt about it – Lily Allen has been looking pretty great on her Sheezus tour. However, in a recent interview she has revealed her diet secret, and we’re not sure it’s the healthiest option!

“I just eat a lot of crisps, I'm not really eating a lot of proper meals [while on tour].

“Only when I'm able to get to a restaurant.”

Lily says she gained three stone during her pregnancy with her second daughter Marnie Rose, but she’s now down to a tiny size eight.

She says all her dancing probably has a part to play in her weight loss as well:

“I think it’s touring and dancing and probably, you know, the not wanting to eat room service thing.

“I don't really like food being mass produced, you look at those kitchens and they're huge, just, I don't like it.”

Hmmm – we hope Lily is making sure she’s getting her five a day!

Experts are now saying that calorie counting apps or fitness bands are causing people to actually put on weight, rather than lose it.

Online forum users are saying that despite the apps telling them that they’ve burned a lot of calories, they are weighing more than they should be on the scales. Apparently this is down to the apps not being totally accurate, leading users to believe they’ve burned more calories than they actually have, and so they think they can afford to eat more food.

The problem with the apps is that they don’t take into consideration individual circumstances – such as if they’re on medication, or if they’re pregnant. It also doesn’t consider the kinds of foods they’re eating.

However, they’re not ALL bad. New York based personal trainer Matt Townsend says: “My clients use them as an excuse to walk a few extra blocks, go for a water break, take the stairs instead of the elevator and many other situations where you would often pass on physical exercise.

“The key here is to not over-consume the calories you are working hard to burn off. Fitness bands can help you find a way to sneak in cardio while also lowering stress levels, raising energy and, of course, ensuring your clothes fit the right way.”

Looks like the moral of the story is to use your head, as well as your app!

Kelly Osbourne joined the belfie club with her latest Instagram snap.

We’re very happy for Kelly, after she dropped just over a stone in the last four months with a new fitness regime.

But maybe the Fashion Police star could have come up with a more…subtle way to show off her her toned bum!

The 29-year-old was centre of attention just days ago when she showcased her purple safety pin hairstyle.

Wearing a tiny pair of pink knickers, the celebrity captioned the snap, “It’s not a #FullMoon but it feels like one.”

Kelly said she piled on the pounds after she split from her fiancé Matthew Mosshart six months ago, but is said to be doing Pilates and yoga classes and hired a personal trainer five days a week to help her keep in shape.

Good for you Kelly!

There are so many different diets that claim to help you lose weight and give you the perfect body.

From the 5:2 diet to the Atkins diet to Victoria Beckham’s five hands diet, no doubt a lot women have tried at least one.

However, Dr. Brian Weiner suggests that the easiest diet to help you lose weight is the Ice Diet.

While his idea may sound a little crazy, the doctor doesn’t suggest you simply eat ice all day, but rather enjoy a litre of shaved or crushed ice daily.

Apparently this will help “burn about 160 calories” every day.

According to Weiner: “The Ice Diet works by increasing the basal metabolic rate. When ingesting clinically significant amounts of ice, the body must burn energy to warm the ice to body temperature. The ingestion of ice would also provide some level of satiety.”

Not sure if we’ll be giving this a try, but each to their own!
