This may surprise you, but if you answered wine you’re actually wrong – according to the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra).
Don’t worry though because you are not alone in your thinking. A survey of 1,000 adults commissioned by Camra, found that over half of respondents thought the same thing.
Professor Charles Bamforth of the University of California, Davis and author of Beer, Health and Nutrition said: “The myth that wine is in some way healthier than other alcoholic drinks dates back many years to research carried out in France, a predominantly wine drinking country.”
He continued: “When similar studies were carried out in the Czech Republic, a nation of beer drinkers, just the same protective effect was seen with beer. This study showed the lowest risk of heart attacks in men who drank “almost daily or daily” consuming between 7- 16 pints of beer a week.”
Camra chairman Colin Valentine says: “As well as the huge range of flavours and styles available to suit any palate, the big advantage with beer is that it is low in alcohol.”
He added: “In moderation, beer is just as healthy as wine.”
Butterfingers Keira Knightley has admitted to spilling red wine down her Chanel wedding dress.
The 28-year-old actress and new hubbie James Righton tied the knot in France last year, but she admits her designer frock is ruined because her friend knocked her glass out of her hand on her big day.
She explained, ”It’s [the dress has] now got red wine spilled down the front because the last time I wore it…”
”It’s quite impressively splattered. But, hey, a good night is a good night and when a dress has had its time, maybe it’s had its time. I’m pretty sure I can get it out but, if I can’t, I’m happy with the memory of a good night and the story of how the dress got destroyed,” she said.
Keira – who is face of Chanel – admits she loves working for the fashion giants because she gets to dress up on the red carpet and pretend to be someone else.
She told the Daily Telegraph newspaper, ”I get to dress up as somebody different. When I’m on the red carpet, it’s, ‘Oooh, who am I going to be tonight?’”
Let’s hope the Pirates of the Caribbean star doesn’t get into too much trouble with the big bosses of the designer label for her vino mishap.
Frozen grapes are not only a quick and healthy snack to have throughout the day, but are somehow even sweeter than your standard grape. Eat them on their own or add them to desserts and salads. They’re also a great way to chill your glass of wine.
When it comes to wine, it can go either way really – it’s either too dry or not dry enough.

Price: don’t be fooled by the price of wine. Nowadays, you can find a perfectly good wine at a reasonable price.
Consider vintage: the taste of wine is usually determined by its age. Some wine reaches its best flavour in around the second year, while others taste nicer when they are relatively young.
Pairing: make sure your pair the wine with your meal. Lighter meals require lighter wines and heavy wines are better suited for heavy meals.
These three tips will help you decide which wine to go for – we all the battle between red and white is just never ending.
Wine can be confusing and since there are so many new wine bars opening up everywhere, we decided to do a bit of research. We’re totally going to look clever the next time we order a glass of white.
Here are five words you’re most likely to hear in relation to wine.
1. Breathe
This is when a bottle of wine is opened and left to “breathe” for a certain time before drinking. The purpose of this is to allow the wine to interact with the air, which apparently mellows out the flavours and lets the aroma develop.
2. Decanter
Decantation separates any sediments that may be in the wine, particularly reds. The decanter is the name of the vessel the separated wine is then kept in.
3. Nose
This is simply the smell (aroma or bouquet) from the wine.
4. Old world wine
Old world wines are the wines that originate from countries typically associated with wine production. Think France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, etc.
5. New world wines
New world wines are wines that are produced in countries less associated with wine production historically, such as the US, Australia, New Zealand and South America or South Africa.
