This changeable weather makes it impossible to dress appropriately without a hat, umbrella and sunglasses in your handbag at all times.

One of the positive aspects about moving into the Autumn season is the fact that the summer sandals are being tossed off the shelves, and in their place are a myriad of embroidered, shiny and embellished trophy boots.

In a style season defined by streamlined silhouettes and pops of colour, trophy boots add an extra element of flair to an outfit when you feel as dreary as the weather.

The designer-inspired pieces look high-end AF, and we're struggling to choose our favourite style.

While this rainy day would be the perfect time to invest in a new coat, these pieces won't be in store until the end of August, so we have a bit of time to pick our trophy coat for the upcoming Autumn season.

We had been warned that wintry conditions were set to hit the island – and it's now official: it's SNOWING in Ireland.

One caller told 2fm's Breakfast Republic that a bit of a blizzard is going on in Wicklow, while others around the country have been posting snaps of their own mini winter wonderlands on social media.

Kristine Boyd is this morning in Belfast – where the snow is coming down fast and heavy.

And Maeve McGrath in Kerry captured her dog on a snowy walk this morning.

There is also snowfall in Tipperary.

As well as in Ballymena in Co. Antrim.

Met Éireann has said that it will be "very cold today," with "some hill snow in places" which "will turn increasingly to sleet and snow at lower levels this morning, mainly over Ulster, Connacht and west Munster and in remaining areas this afternoon and evening."

And if that wasn't enough to make you want to hibernate, it adds: "Some thunderstorms are likely to develop also. Top afternoon temperatures of just 2 to 4 C., and feeling colder in the strengthening west to northwesterly wind."

Brrrrrrrrrr!

While you might feel that sunglasses are slightly out of season, there's actually been no better time to don a pair of shades.

There is a certain air of 'notions' about anyone who wears sunnies past September under any other circumstances than driving, but with this winters bright and blustery feel, we think the time has come to shun social norms and embrace a pair of sclera saving shades.

And we're seriously so sick of squinting in the low sun while simultaneously shivering from the cold. Something has got to give.

1. ASOS

Winter can be a bit glum, so make a statement with some sculptured shades.

The marble detail on these makes them a fashion bloggers dream. They'll definitely get the likes on Insta.

2. Topshop

If you want to grunge up a slightly stuffy sartorial season of ruffles, embroidery and Victorian collars, opt for some John Lennon-esque subtle shades.

The best thing about these bad boys is, if you have managed to maintain them by summer, they are ideal for the festival season.

3. Ray-Ban

Designer shades are an investment, and somehow every summer rolls around and we still don't have the funds to make the leap.

If you happen to have the cash to splash in the winter and spring months, why not do your investing now? After all, a well made pair of designer shades will see you into summer and beyond.

4. & Other Stories

Winter sun requires a little less coverage than the blasting summer sunshine, so opting for a pastel hue over black is totally viable.

Experiment with your colour palette and brighten up a gloomy winter wardrobe with a whisper of pastel pink.

5. River Island

The perfect hangover shades.

This blacked out, oversized pair will shelter your tired eyes as well as their surrounding dark circles after you've hit the gin and tonics a tad too hard over the festive season.

She’s the model of the moment, and so any trend beloved of Gigi Hadid gets a massive thumbs-up in our books – which is why we are so obsessed with over-the-knee boots this season.

Unlike other trends rocked by Gigi and the Victoria’s Secret crew, we don’t need to be runway models to sport these stylish babies, and they are infinitely versatile.

Do we sound obsessed? Well, we kind of are – and here are six reasons why you should be, too.

1. They go with everything

Roll them over your jeans or slip them on under a shift dress – the combinations are endless with a pair of over-the-knee boots, and we have yet to find an outfit that they don’t complete.

2. They’re easy to wear

The winter months are traditionally all about the ankle boot, which makes total sense: they’re comfy, they’re stylish and they’re totally versatile. But, enter the flat over-the-knee boot, and you’re getting all the benefits of your old favourite – but with a sexy, new-season twist. We love these royal-blue babies from iClothing.

3. They’re the perfect party shoe

Fed up of limping home, stilettos in hand, after a night on the tiles? You need to invest in a pair of over-the-knee boots this party season! Not only do they look amazing with dresses, playsuits and leather leggings, but they are super-comfy, too.

4. They instantly glam up any outfit

There’s something about a pair of over-the-knee boots that just oozes Bond-girl levels of glamour. This is perfect for the jeans-lovers out there – popping on a pair of over-the-knee boots will add an instant layer of glam to your look. Invest in a great neutral pair, like these sassy grey boots from iClothing.

5. They’re the ultimate confidence-boosters

Not only do over-the-knee boots elongate your legs to Gigi-levels, but they are ridiculously sexy and flattering. Just try on a pair, and you’ll see what we mean! Ticking the trend boxes and making us feel like goddesses? We’re sold.

6. You’ll get loads of wear out of them

As mentioned, these babies look amazing with pretty much any outfit, from your most basic leggings and T-shirt to your fancy playsuit. They’re not just a winter phenomenon though; the versatility of over-the-knee boots means you can expect to wear them well into the spring and beyond. Basic black is always a good option, as you can see below.

Well, what are you waiting for? These boots are made for walking – and dancing, and strutting, and shopping, and partying….

Having recently been linked to depression, often associated with weight gain and commonly blamed for breakouts, it’s safe to say the contraceptive pill has a bit of a bad rep.

But thankfully for its users, there could be one unusual benefit to taking progesterone only and combined pills – and no it’s not just the prevention of unplanned pregnancies.

Research conducted at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health suggests that the pill could help prevent common illnesses like the flu.

Taking female mice as participants, the study found that animals with higher levels of progesterone in their bodies had better functioning immune systems than those in possession of lower doses of the hormone.

Because progesterone is found in the majority of pills, those who’ve been prescribed the contraceptive could have boosted immune systems and therefore be better able to fight Winter ailments.

While it is still very early days, if the study’s findings are found to be applicable to humans, it would mean that the pill could have real benefits for parts of the body beyond the reproductive system.

January is already grim enough without lamenting the terrible state of your love life/your health/your bank account.

This month, we give you full permission to wrap yourself in a duvet and take permanent residence on the couch with your new boyf, Netflix.

It'll keep you company, distract you from pesky winter colds and flu and just generally be an all-round good guy.

As for finding Mr. Right, you can worry about that in February.

1. When you're dying and can't form words, it will sit in silence with you

2. Need to lie on the couch without moving a muscle? Yup, that's okay too

3. Netflix will never wake you in the middle of the night by snoring

4. Like time with a good boyfriend, four hours with your new bae will pass without you even noticing

5. Your duvet days will ALWAYS feel productive, but you don't have to make conversation with anyone

6. Netflix wouldn't DARE suggest you "change out of the pyjamas you've been wearing for the last 72 hours"

7. It doesn't nag you to get out of bed – you can stay in bed all day if you want to

8. It respects your life choices – even if those choices involve watching six episodes of Pretty Little Liars in a row

9. It'll NEVER make you watch Premier League when you really want to be watching House Of Cards

If you're looking for some Netflix inspo, our duvet day faves have to be Clueless and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, both of which are available to stream now.

Plus, there's always the entire back catalogue of House of Cards, Pretty Little Liars, Orange Is The New Black and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to keep you occupied…

Not only is it windy, rainy and generally horrible outside but to add insult to injury, it is also really REALLY cold.

We are all pretty much freezing all the time, but there is always that one person who is constantly colder than everyone else.

You know the ones, they come to the office in twenty five separate layers, hog all the heaters and can withstand the sweatiest nightclubs on the planet without breaking a sweat.

Sound familiar? Here is what it is like to be constantly cold.

1) You have resigned yourself to the fact that no matter what, your fingers will always be freezing.

2) Electric heaters are your everything.

3) You get in trouble at home for turning on the heating ALL the time.

4) You keep an hot water bottle close by at all times.

5) You can't deal when someone suggests you should sit outside.

6) Getting out of the shower is the most dreaded part of each and every day.

7) You have no going out clothes because you spend all your money on coats and knitwear. But your coat game is on POINT.

8) You would probably rather wet yourself than get out of your warm bed at 3am to go to the toilet.

9) You realise that living in this country is life playing a really cruel joke on you.

Oh, hey.

It's pretty darn cold out, wouldn't you agree?!

Time to accept your fate and invest in a knitted roll neck because here at SHEmazing! we worry about your health.

Not even in the same league as the turtleneck or the humble jumper, the roll neck usually comes in a nice, thick material finished off with a sweeping roll of extra fabric preserved just for your precious neck.

The change in weather conditions means many things: big bowls of soup; seasonal woollies; nights in by the fire – oh, and the arrival of rodents into our homes.

Eeek!

Yes, 2015 very much appears to be the year of the RAT – with pest control experts reporting that they are being contacted more than 50 times a day by freaked-out folk.

Dubbed ‘king rats’ (we can’t imagine that’s a good thing) the creatures are said to be increasingly resistant to poisons and are cleverly avoiding traps.

Pest controller Trevor Hayden of Complete Pest Control told the Irish Mirror: "There is evidence rats are getting bigger and not being affected by poisons, because they’ve built up a resistance to them."

He added: "The problem is people who try to tackle the problem themselves could be making things worse, as the rats appear to be growing immune to some poisons and are increasing in size by feeding off them."

Rentokil Ireland has also reported a 34 per cent increase in call outs between September and November compared with the same period last year.

And the British Pest Control Association has already warned that rats across the UK are rapidly getting bigger and stronger.

Meanwhile, a horrifying super rat has been found and killed in New York. It is thought that it could be the largest recorded specimen in the world. Pictures of the scary 1.2metre-long rodent – the same size as a small dog – were doing the rounds on Facebook this week.

Earlier this year a giant, a 90cm-long rat was captured alive in Co Tipperary, although it was later discovered that it was an invasive South American swamp species – probably an escaped pet.

He was named Rodney by the nation's media, and was subsequently taken into care by the Kildare Animal Foundation.
