Although women enjoy a good sob after watching a rom-com, it looks like we’re not the only ones who dream of romance.

Results from a new survey showed that in a time when everyone is online, we still all long for a little traditional old fashioned romance.  Over 60% of singles revealed that they would rather declare their feelings for a new partner face-to-face rather than via social media or text.

Surprisingly, the study found that men are more than twice as likely to show their love with a romantic gesture, while women would rather let their man know how the feel via text.

The majority of men aged 35 and over think that a romantic gesture is the best way to show their emotions, but just 6% of 18 to 34-year-olds would consider a romantic gesture as a way to win a potential partner over! However, there’s still hope for our generation as 54% did admit they would prefer to let their feelings out face-to-face rather than opting for a text.

So when it comes to love, men are definitely the ones who are more expressive than women. Well at least we know who wears the pants!

1. The whirlwind romance
Moving in together after two weeks, engaged after four weeks; everyone questions it but when you know, you know … right?

2. The fighting couple
Shouting in public, cursing, that vase incident; your friends ask why you don’t just break up but you know love is passionate and that’s exactly what your relationship is. Just don’t let it go too far.

3. The made-for-each-other couple
Finishing each other’s sentences, knowing your other half’s favourite type of cheese and that they hate orange Smarties. Your friends count you as one person and you’ve been together longer than anyone can remember. Just don’t lose your own identity, all good things can come to an end unfortunately.

4. The PDA overload couple
Dirty looks are always being thrown your way, old people tut and kids laugh and point, but you probably don’t even notice because you’re too busy shifting the face off your fella. And why wouldn’t you, he’s lovely.

5. The can’t-get-it-together couple
You had a very happy four months together before he had to move to Australia (he had his visa before you met) and when he came back you were off travelling Asia with the girls. Don’t worry, if it’s meant to be, it will be.

Melissa, former child star of Little House on the Prairie was asked last night on US TV show Watch what happens live how she would react if she past Charmed star Shannen Doherty in the street and she answered: “I wouldn’t say anything; I’d just punch her in the nose”.

The animosity between the two women all began in the early nineties when Shannen was accused of having a one-night stand with Melissa’s ex- husband Bo Brinkman, which was revealed by Melissa in her 2010 book, Prarie Tales.

Let’s hope Shannen steers clear of her on the streets then; hell hath no fury and all that!

The lingerie line of American Eagle, Aerie, have released a new campaign called Aerie Real which, according to them, means no more photo-shop or use of supermodels in their adverts.

The new campaign tells young women: “We want every girl to feel good about who they are and what they look like, inside and out. That means no more retouching our girls and no more supermodels”.

Aerie is aimed at the young woman between the ages of 15-21 years-old; in other words, the schoolgirl to the young university student.

As we all know, body confidence comes with age and every young woman is bombarded with images of the “perfect women” – often an unattainable image for the majority of us. Aerie’s campaign allows young women to take notice of the trickery and photoshopped images in their magazines and on the internet and realise they’re not real. Which is a very, very good thing.

The women in the campaign are still very attractive and one must not forget the lighting, setting, make-up and other effects that have taken place in these photos. But it is a massive step forward.

Fashion industry take note!

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that men are from Mars and women are from Venus. If you’re in doubt, take a look at these two ‘perfect’ female faces – one picked by women and one picked by men.

Participants in news research were asked to build the perfect face, based on who they consider to be the most beautiful females in the world.

Men prefer blond hair, full lips, strong cheekbones, less prominent forehead and fine eyebrows. Women on the other hand like raven hair, a strong nose and forehead, dark brows and a narrow bone structure.

In terms of celebrities, men love Shakira’s blonde hair, Miranda Kerr’s nose, Jennifer Aniston’s forehead, Kate Middleton’s eyebrows and Angelina Jolie’s cheekbones.

The ladies who took part in the survey had very different ideas. They loved Freida Pinto’s black hair, Keira Knightley’s cheekbones, Cara Delevinge’s bushy brows, Blake Lively’s strong nose and Scarlet Johansson’s lips.

We don’t know about you, but to us the men’s ‘perfect face’ is just a little bit terrifying.
