Claire Foy has gained international recognition for her powerful portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, Lisbeth Salander in The Girl in the Spider’s Web and now as Janet Armstrong in First Man.

As part of her acceptance speech for the #SeeHer recognition gong at the Critics' Choice Awards, she delivered a moving statement about the complexities of female roles.

She became the third actor to receive the accolade, which was launched by the Association of National Advertisers in 2016.

She followed in Viola Davis' and Gal Gadot's footsteps, winning the award which aims to increase the number of accurate depictions of women across the media.

Foy made sure to speak about how numerous people refer to her role in the 2018 Neil Armstrong biopic First Man as "just the wife", which she strongly opposes.

“I’ve had the opportunity to play some extraordinary women, for all sorts of reasons, and none more so than Janet Armstrong,” Foy said.

"She lived her life with such bravery and resilience and determination and love," she added.

“I can’t tell you how many times during the making of the movie and in the press tour that people said to me, ‘Well that part is normally the part of just the wife’."

“And there’s no such thing as ‘just the wife’.” This statement got rapturous applause from the star-studded audience, clearly emphatically agreeing with the British actress.

Foy illustrated that it’s an actor’s responsibility to question who they portray, how they portray them and “how we want people to see themselves on screen” to create change.

Viola Davis presented Foy with the award, and Foy explained how she’d previously watched Davis’ acceptance speech for the 2016 #SeeHer award in preparation for her own.

She was eternally inspired by the outstanding Widows actor’s words that “the greatest privilege in your life is to be who you are.” WE STAN.

The actress concluded by saying she hopes the #SeeHer award will give her “encouragement” to be “brave enough to face and see myself”, and that she hopes it will also help others to do the same.

Cinema goers and superhero fans alike were blown away by the release of Wonder Woman earlier this year.

And to top of the great fan reception, it also smashed box office records, with it being the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman.

And now, it looks like it's coming back.

Comic Con was the bearer of great news this weekend as Warner Bros announced that Wonder Woman 2 is officially on its schedule.

Patty Jenkins, the director, spoke to Entertainment Tonight and let slip the little plan she has in place.

“The story will take place in the U.S. She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.”

She continued: “I realised that Wonder Woman 2 is its own great movie. I made Wonder Woman. Now I want to make Wonder Woman 2. It’s a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love.”

OK, we're already excited for this.

We, along with the rest of the world, LOVE the new Wonder Woman movie.

Gal Gadot is our newest girl crush and style inspo, showing us that you can look super chic on the red carpet while wearing flip flops.

So it's no surprise that Wonder Woman merch seems to be taking over the world, from clothes, to posters, to Lego.

Now, according to @makeupworldnews, it looks like Maybelline are set to release a Wonder Woman themed make- up collection.

The Instagram page has all the latest beauty trends, news and reviews, so we are pretty hopeful.

For now, the page says that the collection will only be available in Italy, but as we are sure it will be a success, we are crossing our fingers that it will be released to the rest of Europe before too long.

The collection will include: matte liquid lipsticks in several colours, Collosal Big Shot mascara and Wonder Woman colour themed nail polishes, and it all comes in a super cute Wonder Woman case.

It looks so fab, we will certainly be keeping our eyes peeled so we can get our hands on it as soon as possible.

We cannot wait to create some fierce Wonder Woman inspired looks!

With a long line of medals to her name, US athlete Alysia Montaño is already inspiring enough.

But she's gained even more recognition this week after she took part in an 800m run… while five months pregnant.

Alysia finished seventh in her heat at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships, which we think is pretty great considering she's carrying a little human inside of her.

The athlete shared a photo on Instagram, where she's wearing a Wonder Women sports top (FTW).

She said: "About last night… 2017 USA Nationals with baby #2 at 5 months pregnant.

"I have some pretty awesome maternity photos from both pregnancies."

She then added the hashtags: "#Wonderwoman #ShesAllOFUS and #be yourjourney."

Alysia previously ran during her first pregnancy, and received backlash as people thought she was trying to shame other pregnant women who didn't exercise.

However, she told the Washington Post this weekend that she wasn't trying to shame pregnant women, she's simply just on her own journey.

“This isn’t to pressure women to run during pregnancy. That’s not the point at all.

“We’re just different and that’s the point.”

What a total QUEEN.

The Little Mermaid is one of our favourite movies, and Wonder Woman has definitely reached top of the list too.

But did you catch some very similar points made in both films?

Both movies feature kickass women who have to deal mystical challenges, but did you notice a sequence in the flicks that are basically exactly the same?

In The Little Mermaid, remember when Ariel finds Prince Eric on the beach? Well, it's basically the exact same as to when Diana finds Steve on the beach.

From the way Diana touches Steve's face, to the camera angles and the lighting, everything has an undeniable likeness.

And actually, it wasn't an accident. In an interview with Entertainment WeeklyWonder Woman’s screenwriter, Allan Heinberg, said: “The story as I see it is The Little Mermaid, specifically Disney’s incarnation.”

He added: “This is a woman who has been raised in a very protective, sheltered life, she’s curious about what life is like outside and she wants to have her own experience.

“She wants to be where the people are.”

After receiving huge praise from critics and cinema-goers alike, Wonder Woman has smashed a huge record, grossing $101 million over the weekend in the US.

The film, directed by Patty Jenkins, has broken the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend for a female-directed movie.

The record was previously held by Sam Taylor-Jonhson, whose film, Fifty Shades of Grey took on $85.1 million during its opening weekend in the US.

However, when it comes to the worldwide record, Fifty Shades of Grey remains on top, having grossed $242 million compared to Wonder Woman’s opening $223 million.

Speaking to Deadline, Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros' domestic distribution boss, said, “This movie resonated globally. Wonder Woman is a woman for our time, and her message and the tone that Patty Jenkins set forth connects with now.”

What's more, Wonder Woman is now holds the title of one of the highest grossing opening weekends for a solo-superhero debut, beating Iron Man and falling just short of Deadpool, Man of Steel and Spider-Man.

Meanwhile, June 3 was dubbed “Wonder Woman Day” over 2,000 comic book stores, book shops and libraries distributing free copies of two special edition issues: Wonder Woman Day special edition No. 1 reprints and Wonder Woman No. 1 by Greg Rucka and artist Liam Sharp.

Wonder Woman opened in Irish cinemas on Thursday, June 1.

The UN recently appointed their Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls.

And she’s a comic book character.

Albeit a bad-ass, take no sh*t gal with hair so wondrous you want to reach out and touch it, but a fictional character none the less.

With Emma Watson acting as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Charlize Theron as Messenger of Peace and countless other women fighting for gender equality, the mind boggles as to how the good folk at the UN suddenly came to the conclusion that they’d been barking up the wrong tree all along.

“Ah, Ala Murabit and Charlize Theron are all well and good, but they’re just too damn real. Any objections to Wonder Woman?”

In one fell swoop, the UN suggested that of the millions of women performing admirable, worthwhile tasks on a daily basis, they’ll never quite measure up to a fictional character in hot pants and headband.

And in a maddening kind of way, the idea is so absurd, so toe-curlingly offensive, so close-your-eyes-and-count-to-ten insulting, you almost – almost – have to laugh.

It’s like trying to reason with a drunk person.

“But she’s not an actual woman.”

“What? She is. Woman’s even in her name FFS.”

“She’s not a living, breathing real-life woman, lads.”

“No, but she’s so wondrous she transcends actual real-life women. And isn’t that something all you ladies should aspire to?”

In that case, how long before we kick Ban Ki-moon out of the UN Secretary-General position and replace him with He-Man?

And if the idea that the United Nations didn’t think they could find ONE worthy ambassador among millions of real-life women isn’t crushing enough, a magazine aimed at the female population has this week nominated a man for its Women of the Year award.

That’s right, ladies. As well as being a multi-millionaire with a back catalogue of number ones, Bono also has this whole 'being a woman' thing nailed down too.

Well, according to Glamour magazine's annual awards, that is.

As news broke of Bono’s nomination, many assumed it was a publicity stunt to draw attention to the other more worthy nominees who include Olympic medallist, Simone Bails, and Nobel peace prize winner Nadia Murad.

And how dispiriting, how overwhelmingly disheartening if that is, indeed, the case?

Despite there being a Nobel Prize winner and Olympic medallist to herald,  there is a suggestion that the public need a man’s name in the headline if they’re going to pay a blind bit of attention to a ceremony that honours women.

Well sure look, if the ageing male rocker doesn’t pull in enough publicity this time around, we can always give Wonder Woman the nod next year.

Or, you know, the pink Power Ranger…

She’s one of the most controversial personalities to emerge from MTV’s 16 and Pregnant so it’s no surprise all eyes were on Farrah Abraham at the station’s Video Music Awards ceremony in New York last night.

And – clearly not wanting to deflect any attention that might come her way – the reality TV star arrived at the high profile event dressed from head to toe as the popular comic book character Wonder Woman.

While Farrah’s Lady Gaga-esque boots, oversized temporary tattoo, skimpy cape and turquoise coloured hair did earn her a place on a whole host of “Worst Dressed” lists this morning, the 25-year-old’s look did have one redeeming feature – her unbelievable nails.

We all love a woman that can kick ass, and this girl is going to be everyone's hero by 2017.

Warner Bros not only released the second trailer for Suicide Squad today, it also debuted footage for next year's Wonder Woman blockbuster.

“The greatest thing about Wonder Woman is how good, kind and loving she is,” director Patty Jenkins says. “Yet none of that negates any of her power.”

Sounds like the woman we all want to be, right?

Fans were given a glimpse of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman at Comic Con this weekend. The actress is a far cry from the typical red and blue Wonder Woman we all know though – she looks MUCH tougher, and we love it!

Wonder Woman is a crucial character in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film, and she’ll be getting her own film soon too, so it’s about time she got a make-over!

We can help but think they took some inspiration from Xena: Warrior Princess though?!

It looks as if Wonder Woman may be getting a modern day make-over for 2016’s Batman vs Superman.

The film’s costume designer, Michael Wilkinson, described the difficulty at creating her outfit: “It’s a thrilling and slightly scary prospect of course. It’s so important to get her right.”

It seems as if they may be thinking of changing her outfit drastically as he went on to say: “We try to create a Wonder Woman relevant for today’s audience.”

Hmm, we do love the original Wonder Woman costume as it is so iconic but we are also excited to see what they do!
