Anyone who grew up in the noughties will remember JoJo’s Leave (Get Out), but since then little has been heard about the American singer-songwriter.

So we're delighted to learn that the former child star is about to make her long-awaited return to music and that she is only mad to pay our little green island a visit.

In an MTV question and answer session which was streamed through Facebook Live today, JoJo revealed that Ireland is one of the places she would most like to travel to.  She said: “I would love to go to Ireland.  I have a shamrock right here [points to her finger], I have a place in south Boston so I feel I have a connection with Ireland.”

The singer – who released her debut album at the age of 12 – has been engaged in a major legal battle with her former record label for almost seven years as she claims Blackground Records caused her career “irreparable damage” by delaying the release of her third album.

When asked to explain the story behind the song I Am, the star replied: “There was a time that I was going through where I was suing my record label for the second time and I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to be able to get out of that situation.  And I was really depressed and I felt like I was really weak.”

“So I went to my therapist and I was saying all these negative things and she called me out on it.  [She explained that] your words have a lot of power and by saying things like ‘I am weak, I am broken, I am tired, I am depressed’ you might stay in that state.”

The therapist encouraged JoJo to write a list of positive ‘I ams’ in a process which eventually inspired the song.

Since she last released music JoJo has been through a lot as on top of her legal dispute the 25-year-old recently admitted that in the early noughties she was so desperate to lose weight she began injecting herself with supplements while only eating 500 calories a day.

Thankfully she has since returned to a healthy body weight and is releasing her latest album Mad Love this October.

Welcome back, JoJo!
