Another day, another dig at Cheryl Versini Fernandez.

This time it’s former Sugababe Amelle Berrabah who’s decided to make her feelings for the former Girls Aloud star known and has splashed it all over Twitter.

Without naming any names, Amelle, in a Twitter conversation with Simon Cowell, implied that X Factor judge Cheryl wasn’t able to sing and shouldn’t be in a position to judge others.

Tweeting at Simon, the 30-year-old Sugababe said: “Still hiring peeps who can’t sing to judge others singing.” If she’d left it at that, we might be unsure which judge she’s referring to, but she then goes on to say: "Nicole was great and could sing but she’s gone now” and then declared her love for former Spice Girl, Mel B.
 

This really only leaves Cheryl in the firing line, right? The Geordie girl has faced a lot of criticism in recent weeks for miming during her X Factor performance, but scoring her fifth UK number one with ‘I Don’t Care’ makes the newly-wed an official record breaker which we’re sure softens the blow a bit.

Despite rumours strongly indicating, that British singer, Ellie Goulding would be joining the 2014 X Factor panel; music mogul, Simon Cowell has insisted that’s not the case.

When asked if the Burn singer could be a judge on the show, Cowell simply replied, “she’s not on the list”.

Simon was then questioned on who he had considered for this year’s X Factor panel, but he just shrugged his shoulders and laughed: “No…got any ideas?”

Simon went onto dismiss other judge rumours, which included Rihanna and Rita Ora.

“In terms of the rumours – Rita Ora, no, Rihanna we never spoke to, Louis I would like to come back. It’s a decision I’ve got to make with the producers and ITV so we’ll see what happens.”

It seems Simon Cowell is eager to get Ellie Goulding onto the X Factor panel but has left the decision up to Cheryl Cole.

Talking to The Sun, a source said: ‘Simon has given Cheryl the final sign-off on the new female judge because he wants her to work with someone she gets along with.’

However, the 27-year-old is not the only contender, as Cheryl has also put forward a few of her own suggestions including Fergie, Amanda Ghost and Sia Furler.

Apparently, according to reports, Fergie is well aware that she is being considered and an insider said: “Fergie is aware she’s being lined up. She and Simon will have to announce the decision by mid-May.”

Unfortunately, Ellie is pretty busy at the moment, what with an eight week US tour coming up and a third album to be getting on with, so it seems the rumours will keep on circling, for a while at least.

It’s no secret that the X Factor’s ratings have declined significantly in recent years.

The show’s bosses are pulling out all the stops to return the star-making programme to its former glory, bringing our favourite sassy mum, Sharon Osbourne back into the fold.

Considering the popularity of that move, it’s no surprise that they’ve delved back into the pool of judges from the show’s golden years.

But who’s making a dramatic return?

We still have our fingers crossed that Cheryl will be on our screens once again, but reports now reveal that Simon Cowell is currently finalising a deal with the show’s chiefs.

The dad-to-be will rejoin the judging panel in August after a three-year hiatus.

It’s not yet known if he’ll continue on the X Factor’s US edition, but either way, we’ll be happy to have Simon back where he belongs.

We might even get another One Direction out of the deal!
