Cheryl Fernandez-Versini alienated herself from the X Factor audience on Friday night when she made the controversial choice to swap out her selected singing hopeful at the last minute.

After first giving a place in the house to Chloe O’Gorman to much booing from the crowd, Cheryl shocked both the judges and audience by taking away her seat and giving it to the previously rejected Chloe Jasmine.

Cheryl told the elated Chloe that she's made a “huge mistake”.

“I want versatility in my group going forward. If I had six girls who all represented the same thing, it would be boring.”

“I want somebody that can do something different each week, you have that for me, and I'm missing that when I look up there.”

Now it seems like Cheryl's sudden change of heart was due to meddling from X Factor producers.

“Cheryl had axed Chloe despite Simon Cowell begging her to keep her,” an unnamed source told the Mirror.”

“It was only after the producers went to see Cheryl that she suddenly changed her mind.”

“The mood in the audience was already pretty toxic and after that it looked like there was going to be a riot. Tensions were high.”

Hmmm… very intriguing. The next episode is tonight on ITV at 8pm, we'll have to tune and see what happens next!

Mel B has found herself in the middle of a rather embarrassing situation as her family call her out on a lie she allegedly told on The X Factor.

The former Spice Girl told contestant Kayleigh Manners she was from an area of Leeds known as Harehills – an area described by Kayleigh as having a “bad name.”

However, things have just got a little awkward and confusing as Mel B’s mum has come out and said: “Melanie was brought up in Harehills? Well, that’s news to is. It’s always been Kirkstall, the other side of town.”

Things got even worse when her sister, Danielle, said: “That’s what happens when you forget your roots. I might start saying I grew up in Buckingham Palace.”

Ouch!

Mel B previously acknowledged that she didn’t grow up in Harehills during a 2009 documentary called 7 Days On The Breadline in which she says: “Despite the fact I grew up in Leeds and grew up on another council estate in the city, I was shocked at the level of deprivation and the absence of hope I found when I went back to Harehills.”

Mel B and her family have been on the outs since 2008 as they blame her husband Stephen for putting a wedge between the star and her family.

Somehow, we’re not sure her family speaking out is going to do anything to heal the rift between them.

Each year, X Factor has one contestant that you never forget – Rylan Clarke, Jedward, Leona Lewis – and this year we’re thinking it's going to be Paul Akister. However, we’re not basing this on his performance last night… but rather on the little dance Cheryl and Mel B treated Simon to.

As Paul, who was axed from the judges house last year, sang Marvin Gaye’s famous hit Let’s Get It On, Cheryl and Mel got up and, eh, let’s just say had a little sexy dance beside Simon.

With a grin plastered all over his face, the X Factor mogul said to Paul at the end: “I think we both had a good time during that”.

Wonder how Jean-Bernard will feel about this, Cheryl…

Here's a video of the song if you fancy giving your other half a little sexy dance as well…

After the support she gave him and the boys during their X Factor journey and beyond, we wonder how Cheryl will feel about this latest picture to surface.

Homegrown Niall Horan turns 21 on September 13th and decided to start celebrating early this weekend with a night out in London.

Along with MTV’s Laura Whitmore and Voice of Ireland’s Bressie, there was another surprise guest at the festivities – Cheryl’s former husband Ashley Cole.

Eh, since when are those two best buds?

The footballer tweeted his happiness at being part of the 1Der's big night, saying: "Birthday party for @NiallOfficial enjoy now u a man  #doing #what #i #do"

We have to say we're surprised to see Ashley there – maybe he just happened to be in the right place at the right time?

Cheryl's star is on the rise again after her recent marriage to Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini and her return to the X Factor judging panel, so hopefully she's more than over her cheating ex.

However, no matter how much you've moved on, it does sting to see a friend hanging out with the ex that broke your heart.

Maybe Niall and Cheryl aren't as close as we thought. Considering her tumultuous history with Cher Lloyd, maybe Cheryl just doesn't keep up relationships with former X Factor contestants once the season is over.

Oblivious to any potential drama that the birthday pics may have caused, everyone seemed to be in good spirits that night, with Laura Whitmore posts lots of happy pictures to her Instagram account.

Happy Birthday, Niall – you definitely deserve to have some fun!

Former X Factor contestant Paul Akister made an appearance on last night’s show as he attempted once again to prove he has the X Factor.

Louis sent the wannabe star home from the judges house last year, feeling he lacked confidence when performing and wasn't ready for the big time.

But after a rendition of John Lennon’s Jealous Guy on last night's show, Simon told Louis: “I think Louis, you probably owe him an apology.”

As was to be expected, Simon and Louis fell back into their familiar pattern of bickering, as Simon goaded the Irish judge into admitting he made a mistake by sending Paul home last year.

After some petty back-and-forth, during which Louis stood his ground and claimed he made the right decision, Simon said: “It’s a shame I wasn’t here last year, but I’m here now.”

So Simon thinks he can save the ailing talent show? Are we all just going to forget US X Factor…?

Paul received four yeses from the panel after his emotional rendition, with Mel B calling his performance "sexy" and Cheryl saying he was "an incredible singer" – do you think they made the right call?

He may not be the coolest, or most stylish judge on the X-Factor, but we can’t help but love Louis Walsh. It’s just a pity his ITV bosses don’t feel the same.

The Mayo man has admitted that he’s on “borrowed time” as the only reason he’s back on the show this year is because of Simon Cowell:

“Simon wanted me back this year. I don’t think ITV did.

“But Simon and I work well together and he knows that I love my job and I love music. I’m on borrowed time and I realise that.”

Pfft. Don’t listen to them Louis! We love you – and here's why:

He tried to be as cool as Kelly Rowland, and failed miserably. But he didn't care.

He's not afraid of a bit of over-exaggeration, which always makes things more exciting!

And he keeps on smiling even when Sharon throws water in his face, cause he's such great craic!

No one does back handed compliments like Louis.

And he's not afraid to show his emotions, like when Melanie McCabe returned – our hearts damn near broke.

If it weren't for Louis, the world would have never experienced the Jedward effect.

And he ALWAYS sticks up for us Irish!

The Rose Of Tralee – RTÉ One, Monday at 8pm
As dated and cringe inducing as this show is, it remains one of the most highly viewed programmes of the year so clearly SOMEONE’S watching it! Dáithí Ó Sé hosts what is now the 56th Rose of Tralee International Festival live from Kerry where we’re sure they’ll all have lovely bottoms. Let's keep our fingers crossed for some more freestyle dancing or another proposal: "Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no, please no, no, no, no, no, don't, oh no, no, no, no…"

Devious Maids – RTÉ 2, Tuesday at 8.40pm

The 90s: The Decade That Connected Us – Discovery Channel, Friday at 9pm
TOWIE, MIC and KUWTK have taken over our tellies in recent years, but have you ever seen the very first reality show, MTV’s The Real World? This series takes a nostalgic look back at 90’s pop culture from the dawn of reality TV to the massive success of Friends and The Blair Witch Project to dance crazes like the Macarena. Contributors include 90210’s Shannen Doherty, Courtney Love, Vanilla Ice and even Dawson from The Creek (who still looks the exact same!)

X Factor: Best and Worst Auditions – Boys – TV3, Saturday at 7pm
In the run up to the start of this year’s X Factor (the 11th season!) Caroline Flack has been trawling through the archives over the past ten years to bring us the good, the bad and the downright deranged. Last week was the girls, and we were reminded of some outstanding auditions from Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Hannah Barrett and Cher Lloyd, as well as plenty of deluded wannabe divas who nearly brought the judges to tears they were laughing so much. But none will EVER top poor Emma Chawner who arrived wearing what looked like a bedsheet and sang “like a baby in a wedding dress” before her family stormed the stage and attacked Simon! Here’s hoping the Boys episode will include Rylan, Chico the goat herder and RHYDIAN doing Phantom of the Opera…
