Taylor did something incredible last night for a fan in need
If you needed further proof that Taylor Swift has a heart of gold, here it is.
The pop star might be criticised from time to time for being fake or fame-hungry, but a recent gesture to a fan shows that underneath it all she is a kind-hearted soul. The Shake It Off singer got wind of a young fan in Arizona who was in need of financial aid to fund her cancer treatment, and in true Taylor style, she stepped up to the plate.
11-year-old Taylor superfan Naomi Oakes had tickets to see the singer in concert in Phoenix next month, but after being diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukaemia just a couple of weeks ago, it emerged that the youngster would be unable to leave the hospital for the next six to eight months as doctors carried out a series of aggressive treatments to try and beat the disease.
With her treatment costing anywhere from $30,000 (€27,000), Naomi's uncle set up a GoFundMe page in the hope that family and friends would donate – but he didn't bank on a certain pop star helping out too.
In an effort to get Taylor's attention and bring a smile back to Naomi's face after a scary few weeks, her family recorded a video earlier this week telling the little girl's story and asking fellow Taylor fans to help spread the word on social media. Their aim was to get Taylor to share the #TeamNaomi hashtag on her Instagram, but instead the pop star did something even more special.
Posting on Naomi's GoFundMe page last night, Taylor made an incredible donation of $50,000 (€45,000), and added a personal message to her fan. "To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I'm sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts," the singer wrote.
"Let's focus on getting you feeling better. I'm sending the biggest hugs to you and your family."
Last night Naomi's family posted this beautiful video of their daughter finding out what had happened:
What a lovely story – wishing Naomi a full recovery.
