Last night’s Room To Improve put EVERYONE off buying a house
If you were hoping for some relaxing pre-Oscars viewing when you tuned into Room To Improve last night, you went to the wrong place.
Sinéad and George were expecting a labour of love after purchasing their dream home, a 170-year-old coach house in Maynooth, but once work actually began everything seemed to fall apart.
There's no denying the house was downright gorgeous from the outside, but inside things weren't quite so perfect.
We got our first alarm bell when Sinéad and George revealed the shower randomly placed in their front hall:
A shower in the hallway… Excellent start! #RoomToImprove

No Dermot. The rooms don't really work. There's a shower in the entrance hall. #RoomtoImprove

However it was when the first tentative steps of the building process began that Sinéad and George received a pretty swift blow to all their plans.
There was wet rot everywhere. And we mean EVERYWHERE. The roof, the kitchen… even their toddler son Daniel's bedroom:
Wet rot.
Well. There goes the budget. #RoomToImprove— Margaret H (@curtainqueen) February 28, 2016
The extent of the wet rot is causing me severe Sunday fear #RoomToImprove #thefear

I'm going to have nightmares about wet rot now. Did they even get a survey before they bought this?! #RoomToImprove

As building went on, it seemed poor Sinéad and George couldn't catch a break. Dermot's entire plan had to be re-done after a full roof replacement blew three-quarters of the €180k budget.
And there was talk of a 'foul smell' due to dampness.
An awful smell wafting around the site……. You think they would have used the hall shower! #RoomToImprove

Basically everyone watching vowed NEVER to buy their own house:
What were they thinking buying that house? Jaysus. #RoomToImprove

#RoomToImprove gives you some insight into the danger of buying an old house

In the end though, it all worked out…
Some beautiful open plan #RoomToImprove

Wow.. now that is stunning. Fair play to all.. That was tough. #RoomToImprove

There was even a double-height ceiling – Dermot's fave:
I am a late convert to #RoomToImprove. I enjoy it greatly. I presume Dermot will one day be buried in a double height coffin.

Didn't catch #RoomToImprove tonight! But I'm guessing double height ceilings and alot of glass???

And while the house looked FAB, it was Sinéad's glam red hair that really stole the show.
