Trafalgar Square evacuated amid discovery of suspicious package
According to emerging reports, Trafalgar Square has been evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious package this afternoon.
Armed police cordoned off the popular tourist area while further reports confirm that Charing Cross station has also been put on lockdown.
It has been established that the item was found on Duncannon Street.
Commenting on developments, a spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: "Specialist officers are in attendance and cordons are in place. As a precaution Charing Cross train station has been closed.”
Members of the public have taken to Twitter in the aftermath of the discovery.
