Traffic chaos in Dublin… as 12metre Minion blows down a main road

Bank holiday Monday traffic was disrupted in the capital today – when a giant Minion character was blown away from a funfair by strong winds.

The yellow creature ended up on the Old Santry Road – with bystanders and witnesses subsequently helping gardai to deflate it.

It is believed that the Minion was blown away from a local funfair in the Santry area at around 3pm this afternoon.

Numerous social media snaps show the 12metre-long attraction taking up much of the road, with motorists being forced to stop until it was deflated and cleared.

Thankfully, no one was injured when the Minion escaped. Dublin City Councillor Paul McAuliffe highlighted in a statement that while "fairground events and festivals are really important in bringing foot fall to our city villages but even the smallest events have health and safety conditions.

"I have asked the Council to provide me with a report on the incident and for the operators of the fairground to be interviewed by council officials."

Understandably, however, online commentators have been delighting at the incident. 

The large Minion was spotted yesterday in situ at the funfair, seemingly unaware of his fate.

Tweeting from the @VCurrentAffairs handle, Veronica Walsh had posted an image of the popular character before the accident took place.
