We’re not sure what to make of LiLo’s latest fashion accessory…

Lindsay Lohan started her first day of community service in New York yesterday, and she ditched the glamour for an altogether more serious fashion accessory.

The actress was spotted leaving the Duffield Children's Centre carrying a copy of the Koran, the Islamic holy text, under her arm.

Lindsay is currently working voluntarily at the centre over to fulfil the 125 hours of community service handed down to her after a reckless driving charge back in 2012. To date, Lindsay has only completed 9.5 hours of the required amount, and has just two weeks to complete the rest, or she may risk being sent to jail.

Back in February, the actress was ordered to re-do a number of hours after claiming that time spent rehearsing and performing for her West End play, Speed The Plow, counted as community service.

The troubled star is reportedly in the middle of an "emotional detox" during which she plans to give up alcohol and dating to revamp her life. The teachings of the Koran state that Muslims should live a life free of alcohol, so perhaps Linsday is drawing on the teachings to help her along.

Linsday has spoken before about her religious side, telling Oprah Winfrey in her O.W.N. docu-series that she considers herself a "very spiritual person," adding, "I'm really in touch, whether it's prayer or meditation… there are so many powers greater than me in the world. I've been blessed and lucky enough to have been given a gift to share with other people."

She has even been promoting the teachings of the Islamic culture on her social media outlets, though not always with great results. Last month she was left red-faced after posting an Arabic piece of text which she believed translated to "You're beautiful."

Unluckily for Lindsay, the real meaning of the text was, "You're a donkey," something which Lindsay's followers were quick to point out. Awks.

This is not the first time the actress has embraced new spiritual teachings. At the height of her fame as a teen actress, LiLo was often spotted wearing the distinctive red Kabbalah bracelet, and also reportedly joined Courtney Love's Buddhist chanting group back in 2012.

Hopefully she finds what she is looking for this time around…
