You’re not yawning right but Gwynnie can sort that out for you
From vagina facials to conscious uncoupling to NEVER eating cheese from a tin (she'd rather 'smoke crack'), Gwyneth Paltrow has given fans some pretty bizarre teachings in her time. This one though, from her latest Goop newsletter, really brightened up our morning.
The actress and lifestyle website curator posted a VERY detailed tutorial this week, all about how to yawn correctly. Yup, you read that right. You've been yawning wrong all this time, and Gwyneth won't stand for it any more.
While having dinner with "wonderful yogi" Michael Year, the subject of yawning came up, and Gwyneth decided to pass on some of Michael's wisdom to her readers. So here's how to really "lean in" to your yawn, next time it happens (probably while reading these instructions):
1. Gently tilt your head back to a comfortable position and allow your mouth to hang open widely while you gently extend into it.
2. Contract the back of the throat as if to perform Ujjayi breathing—a whispery breath—which is typically done through your nose with your mouth closed. Breathe deeply through your mouth so you feel the air hit the back of your throat.
3. Inhale and exhale completely while allowing your shoulders to relax as you exhale.
4. When the yawn comes, reach and extend into it, riding the yawn to stretch the jaw muscles.
5. Repeat 8-10 times until tearing starts. As your jaw muscles stretch and relax, and the yawn expands, the lacrimal glands around the eye are squeezed and tearing is induced.
Thanks for that, Gwynnie…
